I was going to get a 790X CF mobo with a 50$ Zalman 9500 but I configured a Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 with a P31 mobo. If go with AMD, I will get..

I already have a AMD athlon X2 4200+ Windsor 90nm

Intel

Im not looking to get crazy 3dmark scores I just need to upgrade for Battlefield 3 cause the Frostbite engine sounds very CPU intensive.. If you have any sugestions I will gladly take them.

Things im getting regardless of brand.

intel will eat the amd alive. well worth it.

the intel will be faster if you overclock, hands down.

take the FSB from 200 to 266 for a 2.16GHz CPU :) go to 333 (might need more volts) for 2.66 :)

easy OC, huge speed boost.

The freezer 7 will definately cool it at those clocks too, btw

With that Arctic Cooler how far do you think I could get that E2140 to? I saw a banchmark that shows it beating the living crap out of a 3600+ both at stock but im gonna be Ocing.

heh asnwered both my questions before I even posted

Are intels really that easy to OC? Just raise the FSB(maybe the volts for higher tho)? How safe is it to push the volts higher? I want to try and get atleast 2.8ghz.

e2140 can get to 3ghz easy. maybe even 3.2ghz.

here's what my e2160 did...

Holy crap... How far do I have to raise the volts tho? I know I wont even try past 2.8ghz cause if this breaks or somthing else does I CAN NOT replace it for over 6 months. I will try to go for 3ghz if Newegg will RMA it if I blow it.

Mussels

most of them do around 3GHz on stock volts, to be honest. If you cant manage 3.2-3.4GHz on a freezer 7, somethings rather wrong.

Wow I am giddy like a school girl right now! I cant wait! So I can do 2.8ghz with stock volts and the Arctic Freezer? Those CPU's dont use much power too cause of the 65nm too. Can I just get the damn thing OEM somewhere cause im not gonna use the stock cooler...

All dependant on motherboard but that Gigabyte should be able to handle it no questions asked.

Yea I know TK has his e6300 at 2.? somthing I know its kinda high so :D he has the Gigibyte P31 im pretty sure too.

ALSO doesnt the Arctic Cooling Pro 7 come with good Thermal Paste? It would be nice to know because I could knock 8$ off and get the E2160 whitch is 1.8ghz

The only reason more people arent on those chips, is the low level of cache. at say, 3.4Ghz they'll match a 3GHz conroe with 4MB cache.

Lucky part being, that with less cache they make less heat so they OC higher to make up for it.

I didnt know that, so the lower cache will help keep it cool? If my 4200+ on stock cooling is at 30c I cant imagine how cool a 65nm cpu with a kick ass cooler would be :nutkick:

Pretty sure it comes with AS5 pre-applied.

EDIT:^^ I heard temps as low as 25C, good airflow case with stock cooling on stock clocks.

Ever think about the G31 version?

May need a bios flash though for cpu support.

Not AS5. MX-1. MX-1 is slightly better than AS5.

Do you have confirmation? I REALLY need to know cause I dont want to put the crap my AMD cpu came with.. its ancient and its not that good honestly :ohwell:

Thanks. So I can drop the MX-1 from my shopping cart cause I wont be needing it?

freezer is quiter, better temps (not sure exact amount) and overall reccomended more.

You just look around here what teh most popular coolers are, and the freezer 7 is basically on top for 775. its not the most powerful cooler, but its price/performance ratio is kickass and its silent.

I wish fanboys like you wouldn't bother to post. The 4200+ is faster than the E2140

to say the 2140 is pretty mucha budget/cut down chip it aint doing to bad to beat a 4200+ in a couple of tests altho they r pretty old games.

what AMD chip can OC 50-100%? none i've seen.

i used to be a hardcore AMD guy but then i woke up. benchmarks don't lie.

xubidoo, I actually didn't look through the entire link, randomly went through one or two benchmarks and saw the 4200+ winning majority. Actually analyzing it now I stand by my decision the 4200+ is a better processor. However the E2140 has scope for a high over clock and is no lightweight either.

You've got an Intel motherboard, so there is no point considering the AMD route anyways. Save money and stretch out that MB for as long as possible. Dunno. E-series selling point is in the over clock, get the most over clockable CPU for your money. E2140? why not.

You should get your thyroid checked, don't eat sugar, and perhaps smoke a jay if you're old enough.
