My sister's PC got a bug, and its time for a clean install. Anyone know how hearty the Dell Service Partition is at hiding itself from a virus? Its on a 4600c and its 39GB, which I though was a little large.

I have worked with IBM partitions before and didn't have much luck. I had so many problems with the recovery discs that I just cloned the old HD (when I upgraded). If I scrub the Dell Partition, am I going to have big trouble with the CDs?

I think Dell use Symantec Goback software for the recovery partition. Ive used one before and its extremely easy and only takes about 10 mins.

This was on a dimension 4700 though.

What you should do is format the system drive and then use Goback. After restoring, do a virus check to be sure. But i doubt the virus got to the recovery drive. I think its a proprietory file system.
