Can anyone out threr tell me where to either get a new card like this one or which one would be comaptible or can I brdge somehow to use a PCI-E card. If anyone has any ideas that would be good. I am getting lines going across monitor, changed monitors over, updated all drivers. Running VISTA, Intel Penium 4, 3.20 GHz 1023 RAM, 32 bit
System ran nice for about 6 months after updating to VISTA, then lines started appearing, disappeared for one day and now we back to lines
:banghead:
Please help, it's driving me mad

Im pretty sure your moniter is making those lines not the video card.

What motherboard do you have, and how much do you want to spend on a card? Do you just need video, or are you a gamer/graphic artist?

I don't think there is a pci version of the 9800xt. I'm guessing you confused pci with agp.

there isnt, the only PCI cards from the R300 are

9250 and 9550.

As for AGP its most likly drivers and bad vista support

Completely Bonkers

The 9800XT was notorious for defects (esp. Sapphire ... even though they are usually an excellent brand). I suggest the card is replaced with an 9700 or X800. Both are very cheap on ebay these days.

Thanks for replies to everyone :)
I don' think for a minute that's the monitor as I have changed these over several times and only get he same result.

If I replace with sugestion as made by bonkers, will it work with all chipsets as for old card?

In reply to candle: my SYSTEM SPEC gives me the PCI 9800 XT

I need some gamin/graphics to use PHOTOSHOP and Pinnacle or similiar apps.
Cheers,
Annegretel

your drivers are messing up or your gart driver isnt installed, wipe drivers for chipset and video and reinstall

Can you check to make sure your graphics cards fan is running, and that its not clogged with dust.

Go onto add remove programs, and remove the ati drivers, and whichever ones your chipset uses.

Could you go onto user cp at the top and fill in your system specs too :D

It's an AGP card running off the PCI bus most likely. I had problems with my 9600 doing this, and it's still intermittent. afaik, there hasn't been any real solution for it. On the other hand, it is most likely a video card problem, and a replacement is 90% likely to fix it. Trying out new/different drivers is free though...

i had a 9600pro and a 9800pro back in the day, never had this problem on either, and 99% of the time if the bus for AGP is reporting wrong, your GART driver isnt working right so it sees it as a PCI slot

Get these two files
Intel® 875P Chipset INF Utility (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=1043&DwnldID=14528&strOSs=156&OSFullName=Windows%20Vista*%20Ultimate,%2032-bit%20version&lang=eng)
ATI Driver for Vista 32bit (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32)

Another possibility here is that the ATI drivers for Vista share the XP drivers' problem with the AGP video cards. ATI has been having a bit problem with their XP drivers released this year (post July or so) not working on AGP cards. I'm not sure though if this includes Vista. Basically the bad drivers in XP would cause Direct3D to not work right at all, which very well may be your problem in Vista.... You could try disabling Vista's Aero desktop. Go to the Vista Basic setting. This uses only the 2D portion of the GPU instead of 3D.
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/disable-aero-on-windows-vista/

BTW, I don't think you really need that Intel INF update at all. Vista should have drivers for the 875 chipset built in. But you can try them anyway. Intel chipsets rarely need separate driver downloads to work anyway, unlike AMD/NV/VIA chipsets.

To properly clean the ATI drivers; use add/remove programs to remove. Be sure to remove the "ATI UNINSTALLER TOOL" also, if it's there. Open up Start > Search > then select search for "all files and folders". Type in ATI > click "OK" delete any ATI files found.

Defragment your Hard Drive before continuing.

Then go here, (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32) and download new drivers for 9800.

Also, to continue PM...You would probably benifit from getting one of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131043) cards, as an economy upgrade.

You would enjoy the performance over the 9800.

There's no need to do anything other than use the official ATI/AMD driver uninstaller. And defragmenting before a driver install isn't going to help anything, but will likely burn up plenty of time, especially with the Vista defragmenter!

Please feel free to read others' posts, too.

Sounds like some of the vidRAM has gone bad. Solution - new card. If your not a gamer or anything and cheap AGP replacement will do, if you are a gamer though, you should look at a 7950GT or X1950Pro minimum.
