I am currently in the market for a new CPU.
The most important factor is Price vs. Performance.
I have found 2 very powerful CPU's that I would gladly put in my next build.
The AMD Athlon 64X2 5000 + Brisbane and the Core 2 Duo E6600.
I plan on building an ATI Crossfire setup of Dual 3870's.
I found that the AMD chip is New on Ebay for $100:D
I found the Intel E6600 used on Ebay is $175-$200. Brand New on Newegg its $235:eek:
Last week I built my first AM2 system on a X2 4000+ and the system went together perfectly with 2 gigs of DDR2 800. Entire build without HDD was $305. Very, Very fast compared to my trusty P4 3.0E 478.:toast:
I have been reading the bench's and charts on Tom's Hardware and I find that the differience between the 2 is very little, kinda like the 3870 vs. the 8800GT 512. Big price differience, little performance differience. Especially in 3dmark and Sandra.
Is the E6600 really all that more powerful to make it worth the $200+?:banghead:
I know that the AMD will overclock to 3.0 easily as well, probally putting it up there with the E6600.:pimp:
I need some advice from you people who have more first hand experience. Thanks.
