I want to buy a new HDTV for my bday (Tomorrow =p), and am torn which to get. I'd like a 1080p TV, because I want to primarily use it as a computer monitor, and in the much later future with a PS3 when both FF13 and Fallout 3 are released on it. When I do watch TV though, I tend to watch a lot of SDTV. I intend to get the HD channels which my cable provider offers free, I just need to request a HD box. Price is also important, I'm looking to spend no more than 1400...which I know limits my choices by quite a lot for 1080p sets.

I was looking at the 32" Sharp Aquos (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889101108), which gets a lot of high reviews for it's HD picture but apparently a lot of reviewers say its 480 upscaling for SDTV is inferior compared to many other companies. I'd actually prefer a set with average HD quality and a superior SDTV image. Size doesn't matter much, but 32" was the smallest I was looking to get. Can anyone recommend a TV for my needs?

Unfortunately, SD content is the biggest downside to current LCD/Plasma HDTVs. None of them really upscale very well from a 480 signal. I'm not too sure about DLP TVs, but I just don't like their picture quality in general.

How about this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889102132
The reviews I've seen of it say that 480 looks OK on it. About average.

I know the sharp offers an excellent picture. The pic on my 52in aquos
just blows you away when you walkinto my family room. I obsessed about this for over a month. I think as long as you stick to the top 5-7 manufacturer's you will be fine, whatever catches your eye. Also take into consideration how many hdmi ports it has and such not. Thats also very important.

Agreed, the Sharp is the best for the money - Sony rules the LCD market in quality, but expensive. Samsung is roughly the same $bang as Sharp but not quite.
