Ok i read that the cooler for the 2140 is all aluminum(i dont recall when i installed if it is) and i have the cooler from my e6400 that has the copper base. What i was wondering is if it would make a big difference to go to the copper cooler or not. Im asking cause i dont want to take my rig apart if it wont make much of a diff, but if it does then i will. Hope the title is appropriate

Thanks

I hear the E2000 series stock cooler is good enough for stock clocks but does a really bad job at OC'ing. I got a AC-Freezer 7 Pro with mine I havent gotten it yet but I would get another cooler. The E4000/E6000 come with good stock coolers from what my friend tells me.

Well i run my 2140 at 2.65 24/7 cause this board wont let me go over 2.7. But i have mine right by my window so i have pretty low temps, right now im at 19c goes to about 25 on load. So should i change it to the copper or just leave it?

Leave it those temps are awsome

That's the temps I get with my C2D 6300 @3.36 on stock volts with an AC Freezer 7 Pro. Nice temps Boneface, I'd say if you have copper available to at least give it a shot and see if you can net another degree or two. But really (if capable of overclocking further), you should just buck up and get a Freezer 7 Pro, it's cheap, and very effective. Worth every penny, comes with MX-1 pre-applied and has given me faithful service for a year now.

the e6400 cooler should be better since its designed for a hotter running processor. it for sure wont be any worse than the one you have now so you have nothing to lose, its worth trying for sure.

Well its not temps that are not letting me get higher, the board is limiting me to 2.7 so ac pro wont really help me get any higher. But i think later i will try the e6400 cooler. I think once the warmer weather comes ill get one

the e6400 has the same HSF as the old PD which we all know ran hot! so it is going to give a massive improvement over the all alum one but even the el-cheapo Tt jungle 512 cools better and much quieter

Have you raised the volts?

Boneface

Ok i think i will set it up later and yes raised the volts and nothing, wont post, its all good though im happy at this speed.

I have both a e2xxx cooler and a e6xxx cooler, the e6xxx cooler is bigger, heavier, has a better fan, and has a copper base.

the E2XXX should have a faster fan

the E2XXX should have a faster fan

Ive got the two here, the e6xxx's fan has much thicker and bigger fins. The fan on the e2xxx looks tiny in comparison, the e2xxx's fan even has a smaller diameter.

ok i guess its not the same cooler off the cellys like it was originally

Well seeing as its a little cooler inside my comp i decided to try a little OCing and i hit 3.10ghz at 1.55v but it kept locking up on me so i backed it down to 3.0 at 1.45v and its going good so far, temps are idle 13c, im trying to find a program to let me get pics up as my xp version doesnt have paint

what are you using to measure temps?

Boneface
01-19-2008, 11:13 PM
asus probe, and i used coretemps but it was showing each core at 4c so i figured probe was better

Boneface

Heres core temps...im assuming this is the newest version

First off stop celebrating. Asus probe is never a good way to measure your temperatures. Use core temp, I am so surprised how you guys don't realise how inaccurate proprietary software temperature monitors are. Use core temp instead so we can actually get the real temps.

Heres a great example for you guys to learn, my 3.2Ghz Northwood A in winter ran at 15*C Idle and 23*C load. My room was 18*C. There is absolutely NO way in the world that a CPU Can run lower than idle without some sort of Peltier, weak or strong. All the CPU was using however was a copper flower cooler. Before you start blaming bad temp sensors on the CPU I tested it on another board and got rather different results that were FAR more true to how warm it was.

Now the E2140/E4000 series coolers are aluminium coolers, they do their jobs at stock speeds but were never designed to handle any overclocking. Even the E6xxx series coolers are enough for the E6xxx series. The Pentium D Cooler is NOT the same thing as the one found on the first E6xxx conroes. The Pentium D Cooler has a longer slug, as well as a taller fin array, moreover the Pentium D cooler comes with a higher RPM fan that spins faster at a lower temperatrue. (In addition the Pentium D cooler will not work on C2Ds unless they are modded, the bracket was designed to accomodate the pentium D which has a taller IHS).

EDIT: I'd bolt on the E6400 cooler if I were you.

Where im at now its -9 and minus -18 with the wind and i have it blowing directly into my computer(turned 120mm fan around to take air). Beleive me i am freezing in here lol

Edit- still showing -5 to -7c in core temp

Please download speed fan or Everest because something seems so wrong about those temps. Then again, I have a E2180 and at 3ghz it idles 30c and at 1.6 with the downclock settings it goes down to 25c idle.

Edit:Just remembered I have a ZalmanCNPS7000 on it with artic silver 5 XD.

Just for reference the cooler that was supplied with my E4300 was a copper centred cooler (with aluminum fins)

well its acutally gotten colder its now -10c or -20c with the wind or 14f and -4f with the wind

i used asus, speedfan and coretemp at the same time, all the same readings

Boneface
01-20-2008, 01:19 AM
LOL oh well is still good temps for the OC. But anyways i found out that all i had to do was raise the NB volts and OC, didnt realize it and was increasing Vcore. Im at 3.2ghz at 1.35vcore
