Well i saw that the new ATI drivers were out. so i got them. And i launched cod4 and now im getting less fps then i did with the 7.12 drivers. So i went back to the old drivers.
Does anyone know why im getting less fps with newer drivers?
I have the ATI HD3850 512MB IceQ3 Turbo from HIS

Did you clean the old drivers out with driver cleaner pro before you installed the new ones? If not, uninstall the drivers, use driver cleaner pro in safe mode, then reinstall the new ones. If that doesn't work, then just stick with the 7.12's.

Nup, if the old drivers were causing a problem then the game wouldnt even run. Yes, newer drivers dont always mean more FPS.

I'm having problems with 8.1 as well. After installing I ran 3Dmark06 at 1980x1200 scored 15k plus so I ran it again same res but with 4x AA and it crashes on deep freeze now. Did it back to back 3 time. So I'm going to be switching back to 7.12 as well.

The way I see it, if there are no problems you encounter with your current drivers and there are not any direct performance increases or hotfix's for software you use or games you play there isn't much sense in updating your drivers constantly anyways.
Every time they update drivers we hear 50 stories about how they don't work, bad performance, install issues...

not true, if you dont clean out old drivers it can cause slower FPS and other problems, trust me on this i have been there more times then i can count, use driver cleaner and clean them drivers out, then restart and install the new ones, NEVER just install the new drivers without cleaning the old ones out!!!

I also have a problem with my 3DMark06. It just hangs at the loading screen since I installed 8.1. When I roll back the drivers it works fine. Its like it doesn't detect my hardware with the new drivers.
