45nm is cool (heat,oc ect)
after the new heatsink for Core 2 Extreme, here it is the new heatsink for Core 2 "Wolfdale"
It was with a E8500 ES so not the smallest Wolfdale

It's thinner because 45nm processors dissipate less heat than the 65nm processors

This was posted some time ago, but i can see now that they decide to throw that smartfan again...initially it was removed for some reason.

Better run DAMN cool then. And I hope it's only for the lower end series. And, for the sake of cpu longevity, I hope the higher end and server versions will have a better heatsink.

its like the same HSF as the P4 series.. only smaller. lol I think they need a HSF update?

Ya I hate 775 pushpins... Always feel like I'm going to break the board, never do but....
Beyond that...
It's a 45nm chip designed for the same heat ability of the 65nm chips... So its cooling doesn't have to be as big, this wont adversely affect the life span of your chip.
But if they are stacking such a small cooler on it, I really wonder what my AC Freezer is going to do on my new Wolfdale.
Those push pins can be so hard to get in....
They are damn easy to get in...maybe it has to do with that i have slapped together over 100+ 775's ;)...
Get make sure that the knobs are clock wise, and push in the hole.

They normally are, but have you tried it on a cheap thin mainboard?
It just feels like I'm going to break them all the time.....
Also don't well over 100...
I nearly cried attaching my stupid stock cooler on my e2200. Waiting on AC7. :(

it is important to mount the board to the case, the attach the HS. It is know that the stock HS can bow the board.

Ya.... I have just grown used to putting them on before mounting the board, lately I have just held the bottom of the board where the pins go down while i push it with the other hand and then mount it, I really hate working inside of cases in the case they don't have a removable tray.

That's no heatsink, that's some ants dinner after it went to the bathroom! :)
Why of why would the go smaller, current stock fan is not too heavy and the are making millions of them, can't cost more than couple $. Well at least I can now sell my E4300 stock cooler as an upgrade to some E8500 user :roll:

The smaller the better.
Intel speedbins the CPUs for these heatsinks, so the hotter they run at load the better the CPU OCs after you slap a better HSF on it.

Stops idiots who don't know what a after market HSF is from heavy overclocking. :laugh:
And attempted returns due to such things.

Yeah I think it was half the idea to limit peoples OCs with the stock cooler, as you could get 3HGz with the previous one and before Core 2 Duos you could only get so much with water. Other half cost savings, but now they may get better quantity sell for higher priced ones, not just the sweep spot one with lowest price/best multi.

The artic cooling freezer 7 attaches in the same way as the stock cooler, Probably best to get the tissues out :p (only joking of course :))

form what i read these "smaller" chips run cooler at stock speeds.. but as soon as u start to pump more volts thru em they aint quite so clever..
the "cool" factor dont scale up so well.. he he he
