I dont see how that would work, and you can even OC it.. if you really want to tho you would have to make your own socket fitters.

This is more expensive than you are looking for but you might be able to get some ideas.

Nice find. I don't have a 360, but a friend of mine complains about how LOUD it is. Too bad that is so expensive...

No sense in it. Replacing the rear fan with an 80MM does the job just fine. Way overkill, unless you want to waste the money. Just my .02.
PS: No possibilities of internal unless you install the xbox in an HTPC case.

I don't see the point unless its seriously overheating now

If you want to cool both chips, go buy 2 small blocks, a small pump, and radiator. As for mounting the blocks, you will probablly have to come up with your own mounting mechanism that utilizes the original heatsink screws.

I only want to cool the CPU...I was looking to get a socket 370 water block and a small pump that uses AC power and a 80mm rad and use 1/4in tube.just not sure how i would run it.
erocker
01-29-2008, 07:33 PM
To connect the block to the cpu all you need is a small piece of steel, a drill, screws (that fit into existing holes) and washers.

01-29-2008, 07:35 PM
Thanks. now i need to wait to get all of the money so i can try it out.i may change my mind later..
one last thing. How would i get the power to the pump and fan? I don't want that much more power being taken from the xbox
erocker
01-29-2008, 07:38 PM
Just be sure that you buy a block that can have a staight piece of metal over the center of it. Something like the one in the attatchment.
p_o_s_pc
01-29-2008, 07:47 PM
what block is that? The CPU on the Xbox is VARY small it is about 1/3 the size of the socket 370 celeron. It is about the size of the 7900GS GPU
mrhuggles
01-29-2008, 07:59 PM
in original XBOX the gpu heats up more than the cpu, geforce3 vs p3 733mhz thats why.
p_o_s_pc
01-29-2008, 08:16 PM
So i should cool the GPU and the CPU then..........hmmmmmmmmm maybe i will just keep the performance cooling on it i got from llama.

OK ok, just a little note for you pos, if you plan on going this route.
Remember, You can fit 2 iceberq 4 pro's on each the cpu and gpu. So look around for 2 gpu waterblocks, 1 a tad smaller than the other. Also, there is an adapter floating around that you can transition a regular PC ATX psu for xbox applications.

I opened the XBOX... the chances of that fitting are... bad. It has 2 mount points... For the classic stock cooler... if you want to water cool you want a dremel and a stiff drink handy...
Edit: Some more on this story: Friend's xbox wanted painting, the CDrom drive fails, so we open it up... pretty easy... first the cooler is bad... I replaced the junky thermal crap with some AS5... Worked well... So i'm looking at the mobo... this thing uses two points for mounting... really REALLY close to the CPU... They are pretty non-standard... Anyway, we replaced the CD Drive, it works, ya, and that was that but the truth is it is a SOCKET 370, and I don't think many watercooling things fit that. So sorry to kill your dream, but your gonna need some dremel / drill skills to not hit the surface mount electronics. I would say go for it and keep us updated, but it is a stupid idea.

so would using the waterblocks for a socket 370 work? Because there is socket 370 blocks they are a pita to find but i have seen them.

The mounting for the CPU cooler are non-standard... you could try though. In theory it should work fine, but be prepared to drill an extra hole or... 4.

To help you with this project, are you willing to pickup a modchip and make the xbox without a dvd drive and a 300GB hdd? thats the only way this will work for internally mounted watercooling.

i don't think so... sounds good but no..If i have to i can run some of it on the outside but i would love it all to fit on the inside.
JrRacinFan
01-30-2008, 02:16 AM
well good luck with it then cause you will have to run the pump and rad externally. Only possibly way.

No I really am not joking, it's possible. You would be surprised how much stuff you can do with an xbox.

@PVT... You keep saying that and i know there isn't any room.
@JR... Thanks for the help and i think that i may just get a small external unit for it or just keep the air cooling.

I'm not saying. I KNOW there is no room. I can say you will not under any circumstances fit the radiator and all that crap in the Xbox... I promise that if you try you will have to put the radiator on the outside.

ever tried using linux on your xbox i know for a fact that you can get linux working on a xbox 360 if you change the firmware and do some minor modding plus i think you need a copy of king kong
sucks tho there is no point in having linux on your 360 because you dont get all the updates and you molest the warranty you can only play copied 360 games on a modded 360 aswel
i know that the original xbox is easy to get linux running on, i also have a freind who has 3 hard drives in his xbox and just runs images so he never needed to buy new games he never tried xbox live on it tho and it used a custom bootloader oh and i dont talk to him anymore so i cant ask him about it
for the watercooling your gonna have to drill holes in the case for the tubes to go through

I have all of the metal out of the Xbox all of it but the bottom of it. I cut the sides top and front out.So that would help some. putting holes in the plastic wouldn't be that hard.
I will post some pics sometime.
@JR were would you put a 80mm rad?

Only thing I was going to suggest is to drill 2 holes on the top left rear by the onboard IDE and mount the rad on top of the case externally.
Then you may be able to move your controller ports to the "hard drive" side of the case and put your pump there where the controller ports used to be.
Also, if you want a reservoir, check to see how much space you may have behind the dvd drive.
Remember your very space confined so have a fun time trying to find the smallest watercooling components you can get that will work properly.
