<RANT
This is ridiculous people.... There are more threads locked discussing ATI/Nvidia then anything...

People its hardware and different people have different views and facts are facts...
Its completely ridiculous how so many people start huge arguments and then turn them personal over such stupid things.

So I like ATI so you like Nvidia or vice versa, so what?!?!?
So somebody is a fanboy, let em have it.

Some people seriously need to grow up and stop getting so personal about these dumb little things. The majority of us are in the least fairly intelligent, we can find better things to argue about and in the least keep it to the argument and keep it calm and respectful, its not hard.

This should really follow to everything else discussed to...
Honestly I'm surprised and very glad that the "who do you want president" thread has not gone to **** yet and has remained calm.

It doesn't take a whole lot people, if you are getting upset about something and can't keep it calm, simply don't post and take a break.

Possibly, I just hope some people read it and the amount of crap we get takes a slight decline in the least.

i could not agree with you more and it is not solely ATI/NvIDIa threads.

there has been an influx in members posting nothing TRULY usefull to the community. i have noticed this over the last few months. its getting worse.

i guess there was a clean-up @ [H] and we got the leftovers

glad some ppl have the same views as me

Ya, thats kinda what I meant when I said I hope things change across the boards because you see it a lot in video card discussions but it does follow other places as well..

Ironically heated ATI/NVidia threads got on a rise after ATI became a more competitive so it's not just fanboyism but a clash of ideologies, egos more than a clash of facts, perspectives.

The only problem comes where people begin to become passionate about defending their beliefs.

NO the only problem comes when people substitute ignorance for intelligence.

:toast:

While ignorance fuels certain people, others are both intelligent and passionate about defending their contention and that brings in a lot of unwanted stuff. The most recent ATI vs. NVidia thread that got closed is a text-book example of that.

yes it is a perfect example of itelligence being replaced by ignorance. you know it and i know it.

thats what separates us from the others we know the difference between the 2 and when to draw the line.

That thread was a case of a perfectly normal intellectual discussion taking an ugly turn, the participants of the discussion weren't ignorant, they did seem to have a decent know-how and they were quoting valid points which were factually okay, so no ignorance there in that context, however instead of ignorance there was a bigger demon, that of irresponsible behaviour. Most of us are older than say 15 years and are expected to behave ourselves when in an international, intercommunal forum.

I think the problem is some ppl get really fired up and instead of settling things over pm's they have to post threatning or totally unnesasary posts wich can lead to the other party responding the same then we get a closed thread seen it abit recently.

Agreed. While I have seen some blatant immaturity in posts, I have not witnessed a whole lot of ignorance. What I have noticed, is there are a lot of intelligent people here who have passionate disagreements. Not uncommon when you have a lot of intelligent people weighing in on the same issues. There will be disagreements, and this is sometimes healthy. The key is knowing when to draw the line. (That's where maturity comes in) Just my two cents.....

1. There's no fight, not a single disagreement/flame/slur (except a 'no' which was out of communication, not disgreement)
2. This is General Nonsense.
3. It has served its purpose so far but it's good to see more people responding to the topic in a constructive way as this is a valid issue that pertains to the overall health of the forums. (I've seen four users get banned in <24 hours in a flash).

It's simply something that needs to be said, most people lets be honest don't read the rules...

Some people just know where the lines should be and follow them very well, with a gray area step over every now and then, acceptable as long as its rare and gray area.

Others tend to over push things and when they either
1- find out they were wrong
2- cannot win with facts
3- simply bring it to a personal level

This is when problems occur, its completely ridiculous, I myself have pm'd people when I see posts that really should not say what they do, and generally I get a reply back *Yes I guess that was a bit overkill* and they edit it and add a quick apology sometimes.

I think it could be helpful if some of the more "mature calm and collected" members of the forum did the same thing.

I like many here and always up for a good argument as long as its civil and productive.
People get personal on me, I roll my eyes, say immature kids and most likely uneducated and continue with something else.

Niko, you're such a pansy. :D

Sorry couldn't resist. The reason people do it is because they are anonymous when on the internet, hiding behind their alias, and confident know one is going to come to their house and kick the crap out of them for trash talking.

I agree there've been some threads that are just . . . tripe

but, IDK, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if we had more users acting like actual adults instead of resorting to the immaturity (like the desktop thread - if anyone caught that  ).

We also seem to have a lot of newer users who'll carry a grudge from one thread to the next, which really doesn't help either. I can heavily disgree with someone in one thread, but I'm more than willing to help them out in the next; but, it seems some people just can't do that . . .

but, I saw that nvidia/ati thread going south quick, so I completely avioded it after a while, also - there's no point in throwing anything into the mix when it's that buggared up.

(put vomit smiley here) Anyways, what is this thread about? Oh yes, thread locking over ATi/Nvidia arguments, fanboism, and flame wars. I really don't know what to say, other than it's pointless to argue over it. I'm a "flip-flopper" as so famously made popular by the U.S.'s last Presidential election. We all remember John Kerry don't we? Ugh, it would of been horrible having Herman Munster as President, but instead we have a crude-oil freebasing Alfred E. Neuman clone. Anyways, back to "flip-flopper" which I previously dubbed myself. I've had every brand of video card under the sun. Whenever I buy a video card, I look for performance first, then price, then factor the two together and viola! (As the French say... remember freedom fries?) It's always a coin flip, well.. sure the 8800 had a very good long run (hooray for Nvidia), but over the past seven years or so now, it's been back and forth. Most arguments between ATi/Nvidia just come from bad personal experience, or misinformation. So everyone just relax, and if you need a video card, just get the best you can get for your money from either side for now (go S3, Intel mabye?), and do some gaming!:toast:

not that long, if you go back before R300 you realize a trend that is starting agian actully.

Rage - Rage V where crap cards, sure they where decent but where priced with the faster boys, R100 would have been great if we ever did triple texturing but that never took off, and R200 drivers got fixed just in time for Ti-4600. So 2002-2008 its been a flipflop

Hardcore man!:rockout: I'm learning some volt mods and other hard mods on my 8800 right now. I'm pretty handy with any type of soldering/welding device big or small, and I figure I might as well start implementing that with hardware. I performed a hardmod once a few years ago to my 9800pro, which worked great and I still use the card at work.

I think on that last presidential election, SouthPark put it all into context the best with their "Turd Sandwich vs Giant Douche for class president" episode.

Otherwise, I'll flat out admit I'm ATI loyal - but that won't stop me from recommending nVidia's hardware now and again. Y'know, I'd be more supportive of nVidia, if it wasn't for the bad personal experiences I've had with them, and I don't think I'd ever go back to the greener side. IDK, maybe if they sent me an 2 8800 GTXs as a freebie I might reconsider . . . *hint*hint* . . .

Either way you look at it though, each side is better suited in some areas than they are in others, and I think a lot of people really fail to realize or grasp that.

It is sometimes difficult to get across the intention of a statement in a purely textual media.
For that reason I think that we should prefix all of our statements with the following abbreviations...

YAAI : "You are an idiot" : This is not sarcasm, you really are an idiot.
MIISTY : "My intellect is superior to yours" : I am not calling you an idiot, but I imply it.
TOFTT : "Take one for the team" : You, and all like you, are idiots.
PYHO : "Pull your head out" : This refers to your ass. Get it out now.
IKYM : "I'm kidding you moron" : Self explanitory.
YPIW : "Your post is worthless" : See MIISTY
OGKWYATA : "Only God knows what you are talking about" : Good for General Nonsense.

Ok? Start using these regularly so we can be clearer on everyones intentions.

Note : This post is complete sarcasm, in case you are too dull to realize that.
