Hi there.
Should i buy an HD 2900GT for €79.00?
A online store here has them on sale. Would be a nice backup card.
So yes or no.

2900GT is BARELY better than a 8600GTS...
2900Pro is pretty good especially if its a 512bit version.

I got my hands on one 2900GT card about two months ago and I benchmarked the heck out if it. I did a series of benchmarks: 3DMark 01, 03, 05, 06 and Fur. On the same machine it outperformed an x1900xt card in 3DMark 03, but it was slower by about 10% in 3DMark 01. Not a bad card, but it eats a lot of power and its pretty large so make sure you got enough clearance. (Any large NB/SB heatsinks or similar)

2900Pro 512bit, 512MB cards are great, but out of stock in most places and pricey as well, although Newegg had some a month or so ago for $170.

actully if you can find one over there get the 8800GS, it can tie an HD3850 and costs slightly less

Depends what else you can get for that price there. The pro version is an underclocked XT. Some have the 256-bit memory bus too instead of 512, but that hardly matters. The GT is a seriously cut-down version of the XT, so it better have a seriously cut-down price.
If just wanting a backup card, I wouldn't bother unless your choices there are limited. Something like a 7600GS/GT or 2400pro is good enough for a backup card.

Of course it is. But "backup card" conjures up images of a card you use during the week your old one breaks and your new one is on order.
