So have you done the BIOS mod and flashed your BIOS to give the card 1.1V from the standard 1.05V??

I havent done it yet - can you tell me how to perform it, which programs i should use to open the bios and change the volt.

Firstly................are you experienced at flashing Gfx cards?

Laurijan

I have flashed a x600xt card with atiflash in dos and had no problems - i know that i can dump the GFX bios with ati-tool - and found out that with NiBiTor.v3.7a i can then access the bios..

OK done. You can open it using Nvidia Bios editor (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/NVIDIA-BIOS-Editor.shtml)

All I did was changing the volts to 1.1 from 1.05. You can change anything else you want(eg bootup clocks) or you can ask me to:D

Yep but you have put all settings at 1.1V....you dont want 1.1V to go thru the card when in 2D mode, all you need to do is add 1.1V to "extra" under "exact mode", leave the others blank in exact mode, then you get the right voltages for the right modes.

So anyways, you have flashed a card before so I wont bore you with the dos startup disk etc, you obviously need to add to the Dos startup disk a copy of your New BIOS Rom file and your old (in case you cock up), I would simply call each new.rom and old.rom.

Then you need to download NVFlash from here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/819/.html

And un-compress that onto the startup disk also, double check all the files are there and that you are happy with the mods you have done to your BIOS, if this does not work it will be because you have your BIOS settings wrong or you cant copy files to a startup disk!

Once you are ready to go you simply put the disk in....reboot and at the DOS prompt type...........

nvflash -4 new.rom

Then "y" to confirm.............................and it's done.

REMEMBER.....if your modded BIOS is wrong.......you are fooked and if your crap at this, dont do it because you do so at your own risk, playing is nice......fu*king up aint so nice :D

Note: I have done this about 15 times and plenty of others here have also, as I said, if you get it wrong it's because of a mistake you have made, it's proven to work.

if you wanna, just oc up in small increments, then tell us what clocks youre at and we can make a bios quite easily. weve got heaps of exp. useres here, like Demos has already heapled you, i can and Sol is an 8 series master.

Ati tool reports as maximum temp 63C but when i use Ati tool for ocing it - LOL it increases the core speed for example with 50MHz increments.. what happened to Ati tool i can remember that is didnīt do 50MHz at one time with my ati card... i got Ati tool version 0.26

just go yourself in 10 mhz increments, i get a better feel doing it manually anyway. lol that came out funny.

Id like to do a bios mod to have my card boot up at the 700/1650/1000 that I use as my base OC, I dont have a floppy, and I loaded NiBiTor but it gave me an error like 1752 or something Cannot read driver, I dont know anyone got some insight?

yes, you do not have the most up to date Nibitor so it is not recognising the driver.

Here you are. You need to upload it and save/rename it as a rom file, I would suggest calling it....................... new.rom

I cannot upload a bin or rom file, it tells me that it's an un supported/invalid file format, if you PM me an e mail address I will e mail the rom file as an attachment for you.

Once you get it watercooled, the next step is to do a hard-voltmod. You any good at soldering? lol.

I have been in a technical school for 7 years.. so i am not afraid of soldering nor reading manuals for voltmodding..

Ah, very good then. For a point of reference, I run my 8800GT on water at 800/2000/1100 for gaming on 1.25-1.3V. 950/2375/1100 for benching at ridiculous voltage. lol.

Yeah, the massively OCed quad does help a lot with that tho.

save yourself time, spend a little money and get an AC accelero? best thin i ever purchased, load temps never go above 50 degrees celcius, idling around 35. And for Ģ20 ;)

And for Ģ20 ;)I load to 40C while gaming at 800/2000/1100, while voltmodded. I'm on water, and that's what the OP plans to do. Air just can't touch a good h2o setup. Although those are some good temps on air you have there.

thanks ;) part and parcel with that huge cooler + a 900 :D

I considered water cooling, but its bloody expensive, and the accelero just seemed much better.

Anyway, has he decided on a mod yet? might tinker with my GT if something good truns up!

I don't know if he decided. He did the BIOS vmod, but I just showed him the link to the hard vmod.
