What would you buy
a 8800 gt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130319
or SLI 8800gs`. im not all that interested in the XFX 8800gs`. id prolly get a evga.
If youll look at my PSU youll see that power isnt all that much of an issue. Im tired of my X300 and i want to seriously concider buying a new card or multiple. (My mobo is SLI capabale BTW)

8800GT in the future if you get another it will stomp the GS's, but if your lookin to just get the cards then go with the Dual GS's though the GT's perform alot better from what Ive experienced.

If you have the option to go SLI then go SLI 8800GS... your PSU is a really good one so you got trouble there... and if you flash (only BIOS flash gets past 690 Core Driver lock) your 8800GS's to 700 Core and 1700 Shaders, they will destroy a single 8800GT... definitely the GS SLI - you wont regret it. I have an 8800GT and im telling you that it couldnt hold a candle to 2x 8800GS 384's Oc'd(or stock) and SLI'd.
Also... your CPU would hold you back in any case, so if you do get either set-up, it would be in your best interest to OC the pants off it and combine it with some highly-OC'd ram:toast:

either way, 8800GS SLI is faster than a single 8800GT, it really isnt even close... from an x300 you could go either way... I would get the 2x8800GS, just because its much much faster and i would be happier with that set up... plus the 8800GS's are ALOT quiter than an 8800GT
EDIT: i actually have that exact same card you linked to haha

I would go with a single 8800GT, see if that's enough for you first. If not then save up a little more for a second.

That's false : XFX 8800 GS are not core locked @ 680 or 690 ;)
I use a XFX 8800 GS 384 ( standard version ) with 169.32 XP drivers and I bench on 720/1000/1800 :D
Thanks to Riva Tuner 2.06
A 8800 GT 512 O/C may burn scores. As well, a second card in a few next will be a nice purchase, with less cost than buying a next gen top card.

2x8800GS > 8800GT End of story.
but they will cost more, price for performance is huge these days.
and imo one faster card is always more sensible than 2 slower ones.

2x8800GS > 8800GT End of story.
That's not the same cost :wtf:
Here, 8800 Gt 512 are not a lot more expensive than 8800 GS. A 8800 GS384 SLI solution is not 2X powerfull ;)
over here the GS stock is 250 AUD and the GT is 340 AUD. so 500 for 2 GS's
so yeah they will be faster, but not all games use SLi and not all the ones that do, do it well.
not to mention if you bought a single GT now you could get another in a few months when they cost what a GS does now.

+1;)
In France, the 8800GS ( XFX ) sold 160€, 189€ for the 8800 GT 512 ( Twintech ). ifi sawn the GT when i purchase my new config, i had 30€ more for it :banghead:
Titus, in your position i would just save a tiny bit for the next few months and just nab another midrange card in 6-9 months.
thats one of the reasons i love technology, it moves so fast, what you bought 3 years ago for 650US can be had today for 150US or maybe even better than that...

I'd get... an 8800GTS 512MB, no cooling issues, and probably the same perf as the SLi 8800GS.
the GT doesn't have any issues as long as you crank up the fan, but i guess for some people noise is an issue, then again it doesn't make nearly as much noise as other coolers ive heard, the stock cooling on my X1950Pro for example.
but yeah the GTS is a great bet, with better cooling and more FPS's :D

That's why i buy " old " high end products ... they still are powerfull butf or lower cost :D
well yeah the GS is pretty much as good as a G80GTS, which is weird considering the amount of ROPS, and the memory system. just better/newer technology, and more overclockable.

Few monthes ago, i wanted to purchase a 8800 GTS 320 but when i found my 7900 GS 512 for 135€, i jumped on it !
My 3700+, even @ 2.6GHz was too limit for 8800 GTS.
The G80 GTS was neer conception than the G92GS. The 8800 GS could be a " new old " 8800 GTS :D:D:D
yeah i was going to go the GTS 320 too but i got 8600GT SLi for 20% cheaper and got more performance anyway, and theyre great cards to tweak, and now i have them for when nvidia gets them to run physics :D
now im considering another 8800GT but ill probably want a C2Q6600 to take full advantage, especially into the future as everything gets more and more multi threaded.

I always use EVGA. I just bought 3 cards from Newegg. (2) 8800GS for SLI, and (1) 8800GT (double-wide version, not the slim version you linked).
In my system, the GT beat out the two GS's is almost all benchmarks in XP Pro 32bit and XP Pro 64bit.
I used Aquamark, 3DMark01, PCMark04, and 3DMark06 for benchmarks.
Judging by the specifications of the cards, I was SURE the 8800GS's would win, but they didn't in my system. Two hunches I have: (1) Perhaps it's the fact that the GS card has only 192-bit RAM, not 256-bit. (2) Perhaps my 2 year old, single-core CPU (even if it's over 3GHz) was the bottleneck. No solid answers, but I went with the 8800GT in the end.
