Geforce 9600GT VS 7900GS

I am looking to get a 9600GT soon if the prices are $160-180.Would it worth the money to get a 9600GT when i am running a 7900GS @ 585/900mhz.
So what i am asking would the 9600GT be faster then my 7900GS if so by how much?
I will be gaming at 1280x1024
One last thing. What is the LOWEST watt power supply that can be used with a 7900GS?

EDIT: Starts at page 5... so you are benching at 2.6ghz.. hmm lets just think what kind of score I could get with one of them and a 5000+ BE

I was looking to get the 8800GS and overclock the hell out of it but i am not sure if i want a 8xxx with the 9xxx coming out so soon but the price makes me want it so bad.

BTW it looks like the 9600GT will kill my 7900GS.

mobo is dying i think...that or my ram....it refuses to boot past 2.7 now....and because of my card the voltage needed to reach 2.7 is too much of a powerdraw on the rig. i wanted to get a new/better mobo...but i dont have the $$$

The 7900GS isn't even in the same league as the the 9600GT.:roll:
Early 9600GT indicate that performance is similar to the 8800GT. I'd say your secure for gaming at high settings at 1280x1024 for about a one or two years with the following cards: 3850, 3870, 2900 Pro/XT, 8800GS/GT/GTS/GTX/Ultra, 9600GT or better.

candle has an 8800GS and it beat my score overclocked by like 40pts or something...but id hold off i just installed XP (2000 b4) and now ill really bench it and well see whats up....but you need to take into consideration the processors..athlon x2=no match for core2

ok thanks for the specs. we are running same CPU speed i am running faster ram speed and tighter timings... I want to see your benchmarks so i would have an idea of what i would be getting.

With my intel C2D E6750 CPU, there's an important difference : I'm stock @2.66 Ghz with 1 Gb singlechanel PC6400 G-Kill @ 4/4/4/12 ( 2.0V ) - 800Mhz.
My results with the 8800 GS 384 ( XFX @ 710/1000/1728 ) are :
- 35411 3DM03
- 16877 3DM05
- 10908 3DM06
- 154.281 FPS in Aqua Mark 3

Before seeing yours benchies i didn't think it may have so difference betwen 2 systems with same GPU but different CPU ( but almost same frequencies ).

Does the next gen ( and 8800 series ) need 3Ghz CPU's to explain power ?
