Im just curious what people can get from these cards, so everyone knows where each card stands
post futuremark links and your score for 06, 05, and 03 along with your CPU and current speed like so

id have guessed the 9600 to win from the start with 256 bit faster memory and more ROPs. it would seem ROPs have a large impact on performance, seeing as:
ROPS x Core speed = pixel fillrate

Yes thats my toms post--
And I am using an accelero s1 (rev. 1) with shin etsu x23 paste (i had some lying around) with 2 x 92mm fans attached.
this cooler (although somewhat ugly I will admit) is amazing. I have yet to see temps go beyond 45 C while stress testing (oc'd) and is absolutley silent.
would highly reccomend if you are crazy like me.

Also-- to anyone who has an answer-- I created a bios with nibitor last night and flashed the card successfully--But its my first time using this software and the only thing that I wanted was a volt increase.
So when I created the new bios file I left all stock expect for in the voltages tab (in exact values) I changed "3D" voltage from 1.05 to 1.1 saved, flashed, and upon bootup I read the bios and it reads, in the same section (3D volts, exact tab) as 1.1v. So I'm pretty sure that the flash went alright--but I got no perf increase. my clocks could only go as high as before the bios flash--right at 761mhz.
Is there any other section I can try changed to get this core more volts, am I doing something wrong, or has my card just reached its limits (i hate this answer personally)
thanks guys-

nowe tell us if it will run without artifacting....i remember pushing my 8600 to insane clocks....and it was fine...till i booted a game...but congrats....thats pretty insane for an 8800GS
what cooling do you use isox ?
and to be honest i can do that too ..... http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/w8m5f/
doesnt mean itll game at those freq's....
I use a modded accelero x1, they don't fit on the 8800gs, had to do a massive tweak to it lol "with a hammer".
Well i haven't done anything stressful but playing Supreme Commander, i love that game
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/gm76a/
900mhz gpu 2250mhz shader, the memory artifacts beyond 1040mhz
again dude, your validation doesnt mean squat without a game bench to proove it runs at that speed. here you go again. http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/gzp46/
to run at that speed you will NEED a vmod.
still yours is a 8800gt mines a 8800gs...
im sorry dude but i call shenanigans on 900mhz core / 2250 shader @ stock volts.
its a gpu-z validation alright, but it wont game/bench without extra juice to the core.
Solaris17
02-24-2008, 01:40 AM
dude its the same core...same chip the tolerances are gonna be the same.
yeah seriously man, leave it at 900 core 2250 shaders, and put on the ATI tool artifact scan, then tell me how many pretty little yellow dots you see, thats if the system doesn't lock straight away.
echostrike
02-24-2008, 04:31 AM
yeah, im with wolf and solar-
i could clock mine beyond 800mhz core-- but it would give me errors/artifacts.
highest stable for me was 763/900/1903.
i will clam it up with some validation. Also-- i fitted an unmodded accelero s1 (rev 1) on this xfx 8800gs without a hiccup. you running one 120mm or two 92's ?
this cooling setup is the best! what are your temps.
ps pics of mine are in this thread-
I am running 1 60mm fan lol, it is not a akimbo killer
setting clocks on desktop and sending in the gpu-z validation is like being really pro at wanking,
fair enough you think its awesome, but nobody else wants to know.
i havent seen a 8800GT or GS exceed 800 core and game at that speed, on stock volts.
Paulieg
02-24-2008, 06:28 AM
Yeah, let's see a completed 3dmark06 run with those clocks. If you can do it, I'll :respect:, but it won't happen, I promise. It's like my Quad core cpu. I can boot, load windows and bench superpi at 3.9ghz, but as soon as I run a stability program like prime95, it fails immediately. Therefore the OC is meaningless. Shoot for your fastest STABLE clock.
+1, like i showed in higher posts, its easy to set clocks and send in a conformation, heres one of my 8800GT running 900/2250/2200 :D:D:D but nowhere near bench able, locks up the comp at 780 core.
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/gzp46/
ill see if i can confirm 1ghz core 2500 shader :D ........
candle_86
02-24-2008, 08:09 AM

+1 with Wolf, Solaris and others !
Running @ these freqencies without v-mod isn't possible.
It's so easy to put some crazy values and valide them on GPU-Z. But in game it will come unstable quickly.
I run with better values on benches ( 3D06/05/03, AM3 ) but my rig freezes on games.
May be the temps ? I'm stock cooling, CPU and GPU, and i can't controle this temps when i freeze : i've to restart OS so temp has time to fall.
I'll retry with new coolers ( CPU and GPU ) next week, with better therm past ( AS5 and ASC ).
The PSU factor is not to be neglected.;) electrical consumption graws up so quickly !
id say most G92's are voltage limited
Titus
02-24-2008, 12:40 PM
What's up about 8800GS bios flashing ?
What's max V-core authorized by G92 ?
An idea on mem gfx timings to push a little frequencies faster than 1000MHz, slowing them ?
yeah you'd have to loosen the timings to increase the speed, but as as you loosen the timings the performance degrades anyway, so its 50/50 either way i reckon.
stock vcore on G92's seems to be 1.05v - 1.15v, so you could probably push 1.3 - 1.4 thru one with REALLY good cooling.

Yet, some ones said that memory bandwith has as much importance than timings ... hard choice one more time
Best is testing modded Bios and keep the best ratio heat/perf.
yeah i just put a new bios on my 8800GT, 2nd generation (now i have the Zalman) and 5th clock speed revision, aka "Wolfmodder Bios v205" and branded by me as a GT 'S' because it'll match, if not exceed one.
new clocks are 760/1836/1944
any higher and it artifacts or locks, and it tops out under 55 degrees easy, so now its only voltage limited....if i could get 1.3-1.4v thru it i think that 850-900 / 2000-2200 (core/shader) can be done without eclipsing 65-70 degrees.... :pimp:

i had seen 1.4v around the net, but ill take advice when im given it, what would you reccommend? 1.3 tops?

Yes, much safer bet. 1.3v is pushing it though. It depends how much the little extra OC is worth to you. There is always risk. I personally won't put more than 1.15v through any of my cards.

Some news today :)
I've got my new items for my new rig : 2 GBmore memory RAm ( PC6400 cas 4 ), new CPU cooler ( Zalman CNPS 9500 Cu, 13°C less ), new GPU fan ( Zalman VF900Cu, 23°C less !! ), a new LCD display ( 22" wide ) and my new PSU Antec True Power Trio 550W.
This PSU is so fantastic : stable power ... i pushed my 8800 GS @ 730/1000/1728 stable on benches and games with 57°C max !
My new PSU autorized me pushing CPU @ 3.4GHz with a 11864 3DM06 score.
Conclusion : without a good PSU, no stable O/C ;) I believed mine was an honorable one but it was a crappy one.
I've some pict' of my 8800GD modding. I prepare a post with.
mmm piccies.....and a very nice score dude, very nice indeed.
i jsut ordered a termaltake extreme spirit 2and sunon 40mm fan that doubles the cfm flow thru it, pretty much the only part of my comp thats HOT now is the NB, and thats gunna change, hopefully i can gain some o/c headroom too, considering i just lapped my CPU and its cooler too.

Well finished my build today and have run through the benchmarks
E6750 @ 3.0ghz 375 fsb x 8 (can't get it stable past that because of my power supply I suspect).
2GB RAM @ 900mhz
8800GS @ 715/998/1749 (stayed below 62° on stock cooling)

not bad but id say that E6750 has quite some more headroom in it for over clocking once you get a better psu... but an excellent score for a 8800GS! my 8800GT running at 810 core and 2000 shaders is just a scooch under 13k cos my cpu is half your cache and 3.2ghz .... so like you i am too cpu limited, at least in 3dmark

Slight issue with the DS3L mobo that everyone has decided to temporarily fix itself and let me overclock a little more on stock volts(with some bad vdroop)

Nice score !
I've this config too ( E6750 on P35 MoBo, 8800 GS O/C but i'm less than 12000 3DM06 :twitch: ).
So, I'm @ 3.4GHz CPU ( 8 X 425 stock voltage, memory synchro @ 850MHz ) and my 8800GS a little bit more than yours ( 730/1000 ).

Yea I noticed that and I couldn't figure out what was different. My card starts artifacting about 2 yellow dots every minute or so. Running default settings in 3dmark. I wanted to run a bit higher but I couldn't keep the cpu stable enough at 3.7ish

I don't understand tis difference about 1000 points with a similar rig ( CPU, chipset, grafic card, CPU and GPU frequencies, RAM type, PSU ... ).
My best score is 11864 3D mark 06 (http://service.futuremark.com/resultAnalyzer.action?resultId=5459802&resultType=14).
Details :
- 5479 SM2
- 5014 SM3
- 3080 CPU
May be i forgot a parameter in my drivers or may be the different version of 3DM06 ( Pro for you, free standard for me ... ).
EDIT
Another strange thing, my scores on :
- 3DM03 : 36926
- 3DM05 : 20191
- Aquamark 3 : 186.590

I pushed a little bit more my shader parameter @ 1782 but score just graws slowly :
11886 points on 3DM06 ( 5488 SM2, 5034 HDR/SM3, 3077 CPU ).
Someone has tested other drivers on the 8800 Gs than the 169.32 ?

Got my cpu stable at 3.6 and upped core on gpu to 730 managed a slightly higher score
temps aren't even breaking 55° with 730 core, Running ATI tool reported by both rivatuner and ati tool.

Any idea why my memory is so bad compared to yours? I have tried everything suggested here and elsewhere. Even tried the voltmod used for 8800GT's and no increase for overclock AT ALL. What time window are you guys using to determine your published max clocks here?

Some news today :)
I tried some new tunings : i run stable @ 735/1010/1810 :D
My CPU runs stable @ 3.44 GHz now ( FSB 430 @ 1.4V fixed ).
My 8800 GS runs @ 53°C max.
New scores : 12083 3DM06. Long way to go if i want to touch the 13000 points line
validation : http://service.futuremark.com/resultAnalyzer.action?resultId=5635937&resultType=14
- 188.488 Aqua Mark 03
- 20558 3 D Mark 05.
so vmod it already titus, http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=53910

Thanks for the link Wolf :nutkick:
I missed it before.
I'll try to flash my bios @ actual max stable frequencies ( or a bit less as 730/1000/1728 ) this week and buy some VR ( 500/50/20 Kohms ).
Not a real complicated modding but my electronic lessons are a bit old ( 16 years ago :wtf: ).
I think i'll fix components with paste as Blu-Tack on unused PCB space.
All my cards i had were O/C but never v-moded. A new stage will come ;)

I've edited a bios with NiBitor but i've doubts on voltages.
Stock, 3D application is @ 1.1V. I pushed it @ 1.2V but i don't know what's the max without V-mod.
I'll edit a new bios with 1.3V v-gpu for v-mod version.
I prefer testing bios edited impact before any v-mod tweaking.
With the VF900 cooler, i've a security area to push my card which is not supplied by the card but by a free mobo fan plug.

Some new benches with max linked Shaders clock to core clock : 730/1010/1825.
It run more stable than unlinked clocks ( on 1836 range clock : 1810 to 1863 ).
GPU-Z validation : http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/kgk6k/
New goal : running stable @ 734/1836 linked ( in fact it's 735/1837 in auto-link ).
V-Mod, v-mod ... :D

Hi :)
I flashed my bios withe the EVGA 8800 GS one, but edited with 720/1000/1800 clocks and 1.2V V-core.
It runs less than whith the XFX bios edited with the same parameters. May be the diffrents memory timings
When can we find a bios whithout limits ?

I 've read clocks may run higner when O/C only core or shaders or memory but all at the same time is not possible at the same values.
Any bios maker on his forum ? :D

Did you test with XP32 ?
I want to test with XP 64 or Vista 64.
720/1000/1800 seems to be a great compromise for this card with honorable scores and full stability.
Your 8400 O/C give you more powa than my 6750 O/C. That's 450MHz more !!!
I think my MoBo is a a bottleneck to evolution : with 2GB my scores are better than with 3GB, in sprite of dual chanel for twice.
A 1000 AM3 points difference !

I've just done a bench serial @ 730/1000/1782 ( special bios edit @ 1.2V ).
It run perfectly stable and my scores are neer best done on my rig.
I think i'll keep these ones, waiting for a new special bios which autorize max values on each parameter ... sweet dream
So, i'm blocked by my P35 chipset ... max 430 FSB
