[Problem] PES 2008 , responding to keyboard very late at 30 FPS , very laggy

My system :
Athlon xp 2800+ Barton
1 GB RAM
7600 GT AGP
300 W PSU 15 A on 12 V

The game responds to keyboard button presses very late , like after 2 or 3 secs , and sometimes it doesn't even respond to the buttons . doesn't even let me alt+f4 till after 4 s .
This is only happening happening with this game , as i can play oblivion on most settings high .
EDIT : this games lags even after setting graphics option to medium .

sounds like you are running low on memory when you are playing the game, i would suggest you turn off some of the services running in the background to free up some memory.

but i can comfortably play oblivion at 25 fps , and that is more demanding game .

PES 2008 has far more animated things on screen at once, try updating your drivers if you haven't already.

drivers are updated , tried forceware 169 and XG forceware 171 .

disable some of the background applications and try again, there are a lot of similar cases listed on various other site so you are not alone on that one.
