I was thinking...should I sell my 2900XT for 2 8800GT's? or should I save up money buy a CF motherboard and another 2900XT?

I would personally sell it and go for 1 8800gt.

Hmm, even one 8800GT will be faster than your 2900XT. The only thing is, you may be shocked at how little you may get for your XT if you sell it. I've seen them go for as low as $180 on ebay, and the 2900pro is around $150, if you can find it.

Sell it and get 1 3870 x2 - don't need a crossfire MB for that (someone correct me if you cant use an NForce board with those)
Edit: Upon reflection, I've changed my mind and I agree with the above, just sell the 2900 and get a single 8800GT. If it's not fast enough for you, you have the option to get a second one and still be able to keep your Motherboard.

The first 8800gts's were G80 cores with 320mb or 640mb. The new 8800GTS is the G92 core and has 512mb's memory.

its that one Im not sure if its better or not, but my friend cant beat my frames in most games with his single 8800gts and my 2900xt? I mean if I can do that then does that mean the gts is still better?

Well... if you have a nvidia chipset motherboard, do it. But you would be better off selling the 2900XT and buying a 8800GT.

Have you tried overclocking it? That's where the 2900XT really shines!
-1nf1n1ty-
02-21-2008, 02:08 AM
dont know how to overclock and I rather let a pro do it, but if the 8800GTS OC that my friend has is better then I might as well try to get that from him or something....

I would try to find members around here with that card and give OCing a shot! But if you don't want to do it, trade for the GTS.

Yeah I dont really wanna do that, only thing I plan on overclocking is my processor and I dont know how to do that either.....I might as well trade
The difference between a 2900XT and 8800GT is small, not worth the hassle in selling one card to buy another that is barely any better. Stay with what you have or get a 3870X2.

No. Performance-wise there is very little difference.

No. The G80 GTS gets beat by the 2900XT. I would sell your 2900XT and get a HD 3870, there so cheap now.. and if you have a crossfire mobo thats even better.

xfire x2900xt is a power hungry game too, not only will you need the mobo but quite possibly need a new psu. if you sell yours and get a (g92) 8800gt or gts 512 you will get better performance than yours and your m8s. if you want to stay with ati get a 3870 x2 as it is the best single card sollution on sale right now, and not much more power hungry than your one 2900 is atm even tho the x2 has twice as much hardware onboard.
edit
looked at your specs<<<
if you want to get more out of that card sell you mobo and cpu and get a core2duo and overclock the nuts off it :D e8500 and an x38 mobo will do xfire and oc like beasts

does having a crossfire motherboard or sli board with either a nvidia card on the sli board or a ATI card on the crossfireboard make a difference in frames? cause I just did a 3dmark and got 7976(is that good?)
das müffin mann
02-21-2008, 04:17 AM
