Can running a ATi graphics card on an Nvidia chipset mobo cause instability?

No, not at all.

For the most part NO. However not every match is perfect and some mixing is better than others. There are isolated cases to whereas the mixing causes problems in some games, and some particular set-ups. Mostly caused by driver conflicts.

The only time I have noticed an issue is Nvidia boards with integrated graphics that are then updated with an ATI PCI, AGP, or PCIE graphics card. I would go to Add/Remove programs and click on Nvidia drivers and make sure JUST the DISPLAY driver is removed...just to make sure. If it is removed then removed your ATI drivers, reboot, and reinstall them. Also with the ATI drivers make sure it doesn't try to install any SB or RAID drivers because they are included in some driver releases from them. This is why I always do custom installs to make sure crap and useless stuff doesn't get installed.

Nah, won't hurt anything. It would be smart to go with an Nvidia card if you're buying though so you can go for SLI later.

I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but I've heard of cases that ATI cards preform better on nvidia chipsets than Nvidia cards...Weird but I've heard it many times, and I don't know if there is any truth to that. :)

Don't feel alone. I've heard it also, a couple PC Mags had a few reviews where the ATI card actually performed better on an Nvidea chipset by a few points. But hey, better is better.

Tiys, take it from me my friend. Either way it will not cause instabilities of either sort.

That's just like saying if Intel had been making video cards you can only run them on Intel chipsets.

Either way though, it was a good question. Yes, you will find that ATi cards do run better on nVidia chipsets, very ironic but true.
