Put a new sound card in my comp, when I booted it up for the first time, I now get a error, comes up with

Verifying DMI Pool Data....
Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter.

At first I thought I must have some how killed my hard drive so I put in a new one I had around the house, still brand new in the box. But still having the same problem.

Was taking a guess at the hard drive becuse it looked like a problem I had before where that was the answer, but no luck.

Also I tried puting in the windows cd, but my key board isnt responding, when I try to press enter as it says, though it works fine with my older comp im using now.

Im at a loss now, not sure what has happend here  Any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Perhaps your boot order got mixed up in the bios. Did you check that?

Pull the sound card and reset CMOS, attemp reboot.
That error generally means the HDD is going bad (or gone).

Yup took a look in my Bios boot order is still the same... But my Hard drive, CD drive and even my floopy drive are not being shown, another reason I thought it was my hard drive that I some how killed.

On the boot up screen it shows

Disket Drive B: None
Pri Masert Disk: None
Pri Slave Disk: None

Thanks for the fast reply :toast:

Could it be that you accidentally fried your IDE controller?

Not real sure what the IDE controller is.... ;) Im not all that computer savvy, i've built the two I have and never had any real issues besides this and a hard drive dying a year or so ago.

But with the walk through and help from this site, building them was pretty easy.

What should I be checking to see if I fried the IDE controller? Thanks.

Did you update drivers?

Put it in PCI 3 then also tried PCI 5.

The error came up the first time I hit the power button after I put the sound card in, so cant even make it to windows to install any drivers.

Thanks again.

Mother board is Abit, Sound Card is Creative.

Also a update I pulled the hard drive from the comp that isnt working and put it in this one, booted up no problems.

Do a google search on how to fix the MBR on your bad drive. The Master Boot Record can become corrupt with hardware changes. If it is the MBR that is messed up, most likely all the data on it can be retrieved with a proper fix. I beleive HD Workbench is a program that can be used to fix it.

Are you running more than 2 hard drives on the same channel/cable?

Reset the cmos but it sounds like your ide controller is gone :wtf:

Try to disconnect all the drives, DVD-Roms, Slave HDDs, The new soundcard and conenct only the necessary, one HDD but before that try to take off the battery of your board for about 5 minutes and then put again and connect...

Update: Got it fixed by connecting the cable to another spot. Unhooked it from IDE1 and put it on IDE3 and now its working no problems, not sure what happend but its fixed so im not going to complain

Thanks all for the advice, was very much appreciated.
