We need a podcast!

Soo...Is there anyone on TechPowerUp that feels we need a podcast? I personally listen to podcasts a lot, mainly in the car.

The staff of TPU could run this podcast and talk about everything tech. I would subcribe, but would you guys?

Why podcasts when some of us already spend at least an hour a day in forum activity? Interviews and reviews can also stay in text. This is just like not having video-reviews because many find text better.

Ok i voted no..only because i don't really listen to any pod casts but thats me personally but on the whole.... other ppl may find them useful I.E put on to an ipod or the like an listen to them elsewhere in the house while doing other things maybe.

Podcast isn't "ipod cast" that's just a term coined by Apple, but the term is used by most everyone now...

Anyhow, I think this podcast should be in a widely distributable format, one of whatever you guys think.

Yeah I read it.. and I AM aware of it. and I still do avoid using MAC terminology's and don't use them.

My mp4 player has a "podcast" scheme of its own but refers to them as ZENcasts.. thats what I original meant in a joking sort of context.

My GF and I listen to 1UP podcasts all the time, and I think it could be interesting to have weekly or bi-montly pod-casts on TPU about current hardware reviews, news, previews and such. Podcasts are very popular and could be very lucrative for TPU if properly harnessed and executed.

So what should the audio format be? We need to have a good format that all users be it linux, windows, or mac can use, but also try not to sacrifice any quality

It will be audio news based primarily on news, upcoming products, reviews, and interviews with members of the tech community.

I will be giving info on what positions will be open for the podcast, just give it time.

I will suggest that maybe a gaming podcast section, and maybe a unique podcast to GPU come about in the future if this does get going! I totally agree it's worth a shot, and if proven successful, I'm sure TPU staff would agree to support it. I also agree MP4 would be the best route to go, decent file sizes, good sound quality and fairly universal support anymore.

I'd say those involved take note from other podcasts and note what is liked or disliked, what we would wanna do differently to not only make the podcast unique, but interesting so that word gets out and people want to download and hear what those involved have to say. I will totally support this in any way I can.

I didn't either till my GF downloaded them to her Zune I got her for xmas...they're kinda like talk-radio show, but with personality and interest in the subject supported, with arguements, suggestions...pretty much like a talking thread with some professionality. I have really only listened to 1UpYours podcasts, and I do get a kick out of them, but they do focus on gaming from consoles to PC's, how they play, what they liked, disliked, true and honest opinions that vary from person to person. Could be a good thing, but in the end it will take some strong drive to get this off it's feet and unique enough to be of interest to the masses...but it can totally be done.

There's a lot of talent on this site, and I see things working out. :toast:

Point taken. It should be noted that we will need to have researchers that will search the web for news (good sources) to report on. Anyway, I will discuss this more in a different thread if we can get the green light.

Im almost scared to find out how the voices of some of our members of TPU would sound like. Because I was a little surprised as im sure the others were as well once we heard each others voices on XBOX LIVE it was a sort of woah moment:eek: because you get to know the person online and make some assumptions about what that person looks ansd sounds like and its like woah!!!

Having to have a conversation is superior to typing, this is an excellent idea.
On a different forum they were talking about a "Talking with a Pro" series.
It would be a great way to get people that excel at their fields to be able to chat with a large audience.
Not to mention the first to implement it could draw people from all over to participate.

I don't know if there's still any demand, but instead of a podcast, how about an online radio station? We could maybe have interviews, stuff about tech, and when we're not live, just have music playing... could be a good idea, and I'd help with it. (at least, if I can find a way to circumvent all of my routers security functions to allow a connection to be established, and free software to do it that supports mic input, and random choosing from a library of music tracks so I can host the station)

Podcasts are very time consuming to do well. And although I'm sure there are a lof of TPU members that would like them... the fact is... what is the return on investment.

The second issue is that podcasts very quickly lose interest. So there first few will garner a lot of feedback... but then... over time... fewer and fewer people are interested. Its so much quicker to be able to look, skim, and read the interesting bits of a good review article.

I'm all for web based, quality, reviews. Thats the priority! And gets the spider hits! ;)
