hey everyone!
im building a spider platform system and i hear the phenom is hard to overclock,
so most likely going to use water cooling but was seeking some advice on this!
any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Anything's going to overclock better on water than on air. Are you looking for specific recommendations for cooling systems or just "water or air"?

That's true, but for way less than the cost of water, you can get air cooling that is very efficient, some coolers coming close to a lower end water cooling system. I like air cooling personally, but if you need more cooling and more oc-ability after vmods and such, then go with water...and air. Still gotta have airflow with water cooling, but case fans are usually already there.

Yea i agree there are some really good air cooling products out at the moment such as the tuniq tower 120 but i will more than likely go with water i have just never done water before but here is the thing if i go water i wanna do the whole system water not just the cpu,
so ill need top of the line water cooling system
this is the one i was looking at.

if you know of any better ones let me know

If you're going with a Swiftech kit to cool your entire system, go with this one:
http://www.xoxide.com/swiftech-h2o-apex-ultra-plus.html
This one's got a GPU and NB block as well. I'll be taking the H20Cooling plunge soon as well, and I'll probably build my own kit. Look around this forum for suggestions. There are already a ton of "which watercooling kit is best" or "suggestions for watercooling" threads, and there's some great info in there :toast:

it will oc better on water but those chips run cool enough you could just get a good air cooler

yea i was looking at that one as well, i was also considering building my own kit, it looks like it may turn out cheaper that way but i dunno?
but thanks

yea i guess ill have to go with building my own cooling sys, because ill need a wtb for my 3870x2 the one from the kit wont work with that!
i just cant wait to finish this thing!:rockout:

Sounds good man. I can't say from personal experience, but most of the guys on here recommend building your own system from components. What I would love to see is a project log for this watercooling build in our forums. Yes, it's your first one, but with your system, it would be great to see a build from someone who's new to water.
performance-pcs.com is a great site. They've got a lot of watercooling stuff, and it's hard to find a better place to buy from where I am. I've bought from Xoxide.com before, but I prefer PPCs.
PS: Update your system specs to your X2!

remember if you go water cooling specially if you build your own...take everything out...and run it for 24hours or atleast over night while you sleep with nothing in the case to see if you get leaks...nothing worse than dead components....

Or just stuff paper towels around your blocks.

thats true to...but if you want to completely....make sure no leakage happens jbunch get some wiring tape or plumbing tape and put it around the barbs/threads on your hoses and connections that usually makes sure theirs no leaking.

shouldn't be hard but if you go for it as far as i can see so far its easier to push the multi on the phenoms than the bus speed so just try 15x from the start

The phenoms themselves, with the initial deployment, are so hard to overclock, youll likely not even get 2-300 mhz out of them. Watercooling would help to make it more stable from heat and wattages issues. However, reviews on newegg.com and other sites (anandtech, etc) show the ocability of the first phenoms are usually hit or miss. good luck though.
EDIT: Frozencpu.com has alot of watercooling and tec type stuff. Terrific prices too. Thats another good spot to check out.
