so today i went out and bought a zalman VF1000 and whacked it on my reference XFX 8800GT

no trouble getting the stock cooler off
installation was a breeze, just a few easy steps
current clocks are 760/1836/1944 core/shader/mem
new 3dmark 06 score is 11149 @ 1600x1200, all tests looped 5 times.
so now it outstrips a stock GTS in terms of Pixel fillrate (+15%), and Texture fillrate (+2.5%) and equals one on memory bandwith.
the memory doesn't even like 2ghz, so can anyone recommend me some looser timings so i can clock higher, sol got any ideas? my ram chips are Qimonda HYB18H512321BF-10 but i know theyre rated to 1ghz already so maybe they're just not the best samples :ohwell:

overall very happy with the zalman, especially with another fan aiding it :D

Probably. Lots of heat will hinder anything.

To be honest, loostening the timings and increasing bandwidth wont bring any benefits, the memory on my GTS hits 1075mhz and on my GT's it will go to 1065mhz, I tried with the GTS to loosten the timings which I did but only got an extra 25mhz on the speed but my best 3D Mark 2006 score went from 17,211 to 17,165

ok so before max temp was 63-67 degrees under full load with the fan at 100% (pretty loud, easily the loadest fan in the case)

now load temps barely eclipse 50 (ive seen 52) and thats with the fan on high and its inaudible over the rest of the system :D

also i made my own pci slot cooler by chaining 3x80mm fans together, and to an expansion slot proctector.

the temp was a little higher without the extra fans, but not much.

so idle is ~40 degrees and load is ~50, so theres only a delta of 10 degrees between idle and load :D

2 questions:
On the stock cooler, did you use the stock thermal gunk?
and what thermal paste are you using now?

yes stock thermal gunk with the stock cooler, and im using the zalman thermal paste that came with the cooler, i would use AS5 but i've run out and im very happy with the performance already
