thanks heaps... it seems to be working well, however is there an option so that the .VOB files im converting become one .AVI rather than separate ones?

A simple forum search would have gotten you convertxtodvd.

Ah yes, misread, replace it with autogk then. Same search :D

Or you could use IMToo's DVD to iPod converter. Simple, show where to put files and click. Also, I am pretty sure it uses Xvid to encode.

Yep, autoGK works as well. Forgot about that one. But one that I found that's even better, giving you more options, and is also point and click easy, is Handbrake. http://handbrake.fr/ Which I also forgot about. lol.

Wile E, I was just using mediacoder and i converted the .avi to a .mp4, but then when I synced the file to my player there was no sound, but there is sound when i play it on the computer, i guess the sound type isn't supported by the player maybe...

Do you have any idea on what I did wrong?

Do you have any idea on what I did wrong? You probably set it to ogg, or something your player can't read. What player is it? Or, if you're willing to sacrifice a little audio quality, you can just set it to encode to mp3. It's the most compatible.

Open Mediacoder, and select the options menu, and make sure the Interface Mode is either in Normal or Expert. The go down to the bottom, and highlight the 2 tabs I have shown. In the Audio tab, makes sure encoder is set to LAME MP3. In the LAME tab on the right, set your settings. Do CBR for the best compatibility. 320kbps is the best quality, but takes the most space. Lower = less quality, but also less space. Adjust it to your taste.

Well, I believe ffmpeg can do it, but it's command line. You could use an interface that uses ffmpeg, like SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html).
Unfortunately, SUPER can only convert, not split or join, AFAIK.

I've had success with VirtualDub (http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/) in splitting up and joining videos.
