So i got the balls to finally lap my CPU and the results were pretty well, it was my first time doing anything like this so i read quite a few reviews. I started with 220 grit then to 400 then to 600 (for a while) then jumped to 1500 for a nice finish. Here are some pics I couldnt really get a good reflective shot with the angles on the mobo but tell me what you guys think.

Lapped IHS on my E6750

The pictures are kind of grainy cause my digi cam sucks haha, but I mean you can see the mirror finish on both of these I cant wait to see the improvement.
Thanks again to Scrizz for the technique to do my heatsink and freaksavior for the Brasso idea both worked wonderfully!
Tell me what you guys think,

take some brasso and clean it off, it will looks SOO pretty lol.
The ac f7p well, that one is tricky. i had to take the pins out of the mounting holes and then i taped the x clamp to the cooler.

o and you never commented on how it looked :) did I do bad or good?

o and is brasso conductive like should I worry if it drips a little onto my components or do I need to dry it any special way?

the pics aren't exactly the best. So maybe try a clearer picture.
Brasso? take the proc out first clean it well using brasso, then use a alcohol rubbing pad or anything that is mostly alcohol and clean it off.
and instead of posting another, just edit your post before.
edit:
a little brasso after my lap job

Sweet jesus I need to get me some of that
Now how did you go about lapping your AF7 Pro like should I take the push pins out or take off the whole X clamp, and then use some needle nose pliers to put it back on?

I didn't take the pins off of my ac7 when I lapped it.
EDIT: I actually used an old optical drive on it's side, cut the sandpaper to fit the side of the drive.
It worked well, and I didn't have to remove anything lol

brassoing anything lapped makes your temps a bit higher, its commonly known... the best is a 1000Grit finish, no metal polish - as it leaves behind residue which fills in the microscopic gaps (hence the mirror finish) and the residue is not as temp conductive as thermal paste.
Do any googling online if you dont believe me.
i would re-lap both of those, just enough to get all the polish off.

Eh I dont mind a few degrees I think my lap job is significant :) I trust ur advice though

I've never lapped a proc, but in your case you can see some 'scratches'... in the automotive industry we use grit 2500 and even higher. In the future I might try lapping my E4300 but I'll be using 2500 grit to finish it off. There even exist stuff similar to dishwashing sponge in the automotive industry, we have it and it's supposed to give an even better finish than 2500 grit. Only short of applying polish like they do to cars, but in this case polish would be ruining it all due to the chemicals present.

On my CPU the only thing that really looks like a scratch in that picture is the ripples and those are from a fan if you look close you can see its a fan, in real life though its literally like looking in a mirror if i had a nicer cam i would get some better shots.

I checked but by the time I did you had changed the pic.
So nevermind, the new one you put up looks like you really did a good job! (I never meant to say you didn't)
Very reflective and surely better than that cpu had been at stock! Bet you'll be seeing better temperatures as well. I really have to do that on my proc sometime...

theres my ultra 120, lapped it, washed off with acetone to get rid of the chemical's left from brasso, idle temps on a naked 5000 black edition are 29 and load 43 during orthos cpu stress test after an hour at 1.525v 3.38Ghz

So the AS5 got here yesterday and I plopped a nice strip of it across the CPU and then proceeded to mount the heatsink. I fired up the comp and then starting running some prime 95 while watching Temps, It seemed to peak at 50C but both the cores were at 37C, which one do I trust?

don't use too much AS5, since you lapped your components you don't need that much thermal grease.
what are you reading your temps with?
