X800 fuses data for unlocking

Good evening. I am not experienced in editing BIOS-images. A few months ago I needed to flash AGP Sapphire X800 GTO (to 16pp). I succeeded then (I used Infrared's BIOS file). But now I want to flash another videocard (AGP Palit X800 GTO 256MB 400MHz/980MHz). Can anybody help me to edit my original BIOS file? (to 16pp). Of course if R420 can be modified :) .

Hi guys, i have a PowerColor X800 GTO (non VIVO) with R430 gpu and 256MB Hynix 2.5 DDR3 memory. This one is not moddable (because of the CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES: 0xFFFFFF9E) and because of the lazy GPU and memory limits (500MHz max clock according to Hynix datasheets) it is poorly OCable. So why did i buy it you're probably asking... ehehehe i had to save some money for an extra GB of ram :laugh:
Anyway, after going through the whole lot of posts here i wanted to try and flash the card with an x800xl bios, and so i did. I used flashrom (the modded one), saved the original bios and then flashed the PowerColor x800xl pci-e 256MB bios i found in the ati bios collection.
Guess what... not only it didn't work, but the floppy decided to abandon me after the first reboot so i lost the original bios and found myself with a card that freezes at any attempt of running a 3d application, NO MATTER what bios, drivers or memory settings i try :banghead:
It seems that this card needs its own bios to work properly so this is my humble request: i don't care about "enhanced performance", all i ask for is the original bios to get the card work again.
I have no idea if the one with Hynix memory is a best seller like the Sapphire/Samsung but who knows... a little luck after all that s**t would be a nice christmas present : )

Oh, i quite forgot... from now on i will ALWAYS have a small FAT32 partition for saving and loading BIOSes and apps from the dos prompt, trust me!:roll:

Start with TRP timing (increase the value from 5 to 6 or 7) and test.

You can change all the timings but you need lot of time. Increasing TRP (not decreasing) can give you up to 10% overclock of the momory without loosing FPS.

these timeings work on the v8oo cards with 1.6/2.0 samsung mem chips ...compare them to what atitool shows you ...and try some ajustments:)

It is moddable to 16 pipes :D . I need your original BIOS and pictures of the card (Front and back). It seems with R481 core like the case above (Straw) and probably the pictures are also the same (see post #2757).

That is very interesting card. With new and faster 700MHz memory and R481. Straw have some problems unlocking his card but we are working over.

Try to flash it with the attached BIOS using atiflash in DOS mode.

atiflash -f -p -newbios xpert16.bin

After the flashing your CONFIG_ROM_FUSES should be changed to 0x60 (from 0x61). Only then you can see the 16 pipes in ATITool. Please let me know what will haapen after the flash (again the fuse values).

That card seems to have a lot of overclock room but for that later on.

Btw and corcerning the memory mhz, you are referring to memory frequency right? i bought it from here(the link wasn't working properly, just go to www.alternate.es and then type Xpertvision/Palit Radeon X800 on their search utility, if you want to see it---it is in spanish) and effectively it says memory is 700 mhz ( the usual is 980?) but programs like atitool say the memory freq is normal (490). So i'm confused, but then again i'm a newbie.

i went to dos and typed atiflash -f -p -newbios xpert16.bin but i got the message "Format: atiflash -p <adapter num><filename>"
Then i tried atiflash -p 0 xpert16.bin, that seemed to work but when i restarted pipes still were 12 and nothing had changed.
So i went to dos again and tried the command you had given me this way: atiflash -f -newbios -p 0 xpert16.bin, restarted, and woot, here is the result:

Now with 16 pipes test with ATITool for max. core memory and post the values. R481 should reach 540-570MHz (but only if the voltage is 1.4V like on X850XT PE). The memory is 1.4ns and should reach 650-700MHz. After you find the max. stable core/memory I can prepare for you overclocked BIOS with the "correct" speeds and you will have them permanently ;) .

my PSu died today while i was running 3Dmark05. :( Just at the end of the test i noticed a burning smell, i let it continue because it was almost done, and then "bang", dead psu. Fortunately everything is OK (except the psu of course). I think it happened because the psu is a weak 300W and the new card demands more energy...tomorrow i'm getting a 400W.

By the way dolf, i can't get even close to those values, especially for memory. Don't know if it is PSU related,but i don't think so. The problem is that the heat sink is not in contact with memories i guess, what makes the memory chips become quickly overheated when i run atitool.At 540(mem) artifacts started appearing. No major problems with core. If i set it to 525-525, it is stable but memories are still so hot. CPU temp is 50 idle, 58 full. The card does not have a sensor to control the temperature so no way to know whether the memories overclock is too dangerous or not.

Concerning to testing it i ve run 3dmark05 (system specs: xp2600 running at 2.1 ghz, 1 ghz ram, gto 525-500,3dmark default settings) and i got a score of 5500 which i m very satisfied with.:D
525-500--> 5450
525-525 ---> 5558

I'll keep testing tomorrow when i get the new psu.

Unfortunately nothing can be done with that core in meaning pipe unlocking. Sorry for that. You can probably overclock it hard?

For sure with 16 pipes and 500+ MHz on the core that card requires app. 65-75W and stronger PSU. Buy a quality one 400W PSU. If you can check the core voltage and the memory voltage (because it is possible to discover that the core runs with 1.2 or 1.3V and the memory has lower Vdd and Vddq than recommended). Also the card has weak on board core power supply (missing power mosfets which can be added ;) ). For sure the main problem for the memory overclock is the heat and you have to improve your cooling if you want X850XT PE speeds and more because that card has better memory (200MHz faster than the 1.6ns on the X850XT PE).

Use my automated flash utility for X800PRO VIVO AGP but read the flash instructions first. Download: http://savefile.com/projects/670063

Probably the X800PRO 16 pipe BIOS won't work on that card that's why you should start with X800XT BIOS.

With 16 pipes first start with ATITool and find max. core/memory. If your card is stable without artifacts at min. 510/510MHz then you can flash X800XT BIOS. If the card is stable and without artifacts at 530/570MHz then flash X800XT PE BIOS.

That is the reason for closing of one quad. Take ATI Silencer 5 rev.2 and be happy. Up to that moment stick with X800PRO 16 BIOS.

Both are good but personally I preffer the Silencer because it cools the memory also and exhausts the hot air out of the case.

Yes you can flash X800XT PE BIOS. "Benefits" could be the Overdrive tab and the temperature monitoring within the driver.

Unfortunately the benefit in meaning more pipes is not possible. Sorry. Otherwise X800XT or X800XT PE BIOS can be flashed and you will have X800XT (PE) but with 12 pipes ;) .

500/500...Yeah, you can get more out of that card. An X850XTPE runs at 540/590. You can try hitting that. My card even does it now, and it has pretty much the same core/ram as yours, so everything should gel.

Unfortunately the benefit in meaning more pipes is not possible. Sorry. Otherwise X800XT or X800XT PE BIOS can be flashed and you will have X800XT (PE) but with 12 pipes ;) .

It is moddable to 16 pipes :D . I need your original BIOS and pictures of the card (Front and back). It seems with R481 core like the case above (Straw) and probably the pictures are also the same (see post #2757).

It is not possible to have R420 but to recognize it like R480 for instance. R420 and R481 are almost one and the same thing but they also have minor differences (fuse matrix). The way of recognizing deppends from the Device ID which is set on the card's board (my opinion). Thats why R481 is recognized like R420.

All the R4xx processors are originally designed to be with 16 pipes and the opening of the healthy (but locked on BIOS level) pipes couldn't have side effect unless the cooling is poor and the core constantly works at high temperatures (above 80C).

I wish you success with modding to X3 but it is not connected with the number of the active pipes. As many they are as powerfull your card is ;) .

I firstly flash the modded rom but failed. I thought maybe the modded bios was destroyed. so I flash the oringal rom to test it but got the same problem.

Yes you can unlock it to 16 pipes. Ifyour card is AGP than use my automated flash utility for X800PRO VIVO AGP. Save your original BIOS just in case and start with X800PRO 16 pipe BIOS. If it unlocks all the 16 pipes test the max. core/memory and decide how to continue.
If the card can handle 520/560MHz then flash X800XT PE if it can't work stable at these speeds use X800XT BIOS (500/500MHz). If the X800PRO BIOS doesn't unlock your pipes then use directly X800XT. You have to re-install the after every flash (the only exception could be the X800PRO 16 pipe).

Hey.. I bought a X800GTO AGP open box from Newegg..
(The page actually went down like half an hour after I bought it, so I think I got the last one. Sorry everyone.)

Anyhoo, I've checked the BIOS version against all the ones that can be unlocked to 16 pipeliness, and it fits those exactly. I downloaded the automated flash utility, but it's vague and I don't know which files to burn to CD exactly.

I downloaded 'atiflash,' but for some reason it's not recognizing that adapter 0 is a valid location.. so I don't know exactly how to use it. Is there a way to determine the adapter number?

And I don't have a floppy disk drive anymore.. can I burn a CD the same way?

I've basically tried everything and I'm still out of luck. What should I do?

2.) Read the .pdf enclosed in the .zip file

3.) Burn the .iso file to a CD

There's more than one .iso in the file.. I don't know which one to burn. But all that aside, I got my hands on a USB floppy drive, and I've been trying for the past couple of hours to fiddle with ATIflash and flashrom, but they all return an 0FL01 error. I set it up so that the floppy is a boot disk. I've tried every single option that I could find on any forums, and for the most part they all return with this error.

I've tried ..
flashrom -p 0 bios16.bin
flashrom -f -p 0 bios16.bin
flashrom -newbios -f -p 0 bios16.bin
atiflash -p.. etc.. etc, ad nauseum.

And with the flashrom files, I made sure to download the flashrom16p.zip from these forums.

And again, I've compared the screenshots to what it looks like on my ATItools output, and it appears as though my card can be modded. I have a Sapphire X800GTO, just to be even more clear.

GeCube x800 GTO with 128bit DDR2( not 1 or 3) i want to at least unlock the pipes. when overclocking, i can go only 20 over stock without problems, but the core is 480 and i can get from 400 stock all the way up to 475 no probls. any help would be appreciated!

Rayan that card is moddable to 16 pipes but is it AGP or PCI-E? Post your original BIOS and the core/memory max. overclock in ATITool. Probably you are using wrong command line ;) .

i hear stuff about volt mods and stuff... how do i know how good my memory on my vid card is. i can overclock the core 480) easilly to 475, just memory gets unstable about 420. i think if i adjust the cas latency or something i can get it higher. any suggestions would help. thank you in advance.

The DDR2 should be 2.5ns which is equal to 400MHz. 420 isn't something spectacular but you can try increasing the TRP timing by 1 or 2 and probably the memory will overclock to 450-460MHz. What about the core? Can you unlock to 16 pipes? Because with 12 pipes you should reach easilly 520-560MHz.

Hi! I have a Connect 3d X800 gto VIVO R423 12 pipes. Here is what I've made from it.
Now I'll try to lower thw timings. I have a 20ns memory. What can happen if I lower to much a certain timing. Can this damage the ram or it can be simply fixed using another card and rewriting the bios? Is there a safer mode to try new timings before writing a new bios to the card?
Another pbl would changing the name of the card. I've modded the Device_id from 5549 (I don't remember sure) to 5D52 but it finds it like an X850 series ( not X850XT like Sisoft Sandra does or PcWizard). Can be fixed this pbl?

That core will remain with only 8 pipes. Overclock it to the max. (540-580MHz on the core) and be happy.

but what i really want to do is activate more pipes or 16 or 12 anything above 8.... i se the lazer cut thing and the bios hack..... what i want to know if my VGA support it because is a R423 with memory of 1.5ns i think (Samsung... little square shape)

so if you know more about it dolf answer me... if someone brings me a positive answer i'll do it because this card is good (don't have pixel shadder 3 but whatever...) the bad is the low active pipes.

I am almost 100% sure that you can't open more pipes but let try with the hardmod on bot bridges.
Do the following:
1. Find some conductive varnish, lacquer, glue
2. Remove the cooler
3. You will see the cutted bridges and the contact dots.
4. Use comething sharp to clean the insulator which coveres the dots (scrape it until shiny copper)
5. Use toothpick or something similar to make connection with the conductive compound but don't fill the lasr-cut just make the connection around the cut.
6. Do the above for both bridges and when you are ready install the cooler and plug the card in the PC. Start it and teke new fuse screen shot. Post the values agan here and I will tell you whether it is possible to unlock something more.

Many people has done hardmods but of course there is some risk. If you are carefull it is not so big. The memory it is long story and I can only recommend to increase TRP with 1 or 2 in order to boost the memory with 10%. The rest is matter of experiments.

Well back to most popular question.. What can we do with my (red) Sapphire x800 gto AGP card..

- 16 pipes :cool:
- Laser cuts, ( that's if it's worth it )
- Voltage mods
- Just a bios update...

It looks to me that the most bang for you buck has been the pipe mod.. The only thing I see that might keep me away from doing the mod, is that my card can OC the core like crazy !!! With the cooler master box, extra fans etc to keep it kool.. My screen didn't go out until it passed 863 at idle, & it was getting hot!!... I know it's hard to believe but it did, maybe being a newbie to OC video cards I just ran the card harder (heat wise) then most people would dare due to ignorance, and the memory would came in at 50 over stock.. As, I have read when unlocking to to 16 most of the time takes away from the OC area.... So the question is it better to keep the higher clocks or to add 4 more pipes! Where's the breaking point??

I am currently running my OC settings at with out fault, but have only tested for the last 2 days...

Should I go higher??? on the core ?? or keep it where it's at..

Also what's a good safe temp to keep your card at.. I judged it by the fan's stock % at idle if it was under 100% (67%) then I figured I was good to go.. Maybe not.. :confused:

Sorry, but you can't unlock anymore pipes with a bios flash.

Most cards now can't have the laser cuts reconnected, so if they're cut, you're stuck at 12. At least you can get some decent clocks out of it though.

I'm confused
i can't get my r480 core up to 540mhz , it doesn't give artifacts but after 1 min or so it gives black screen , like something isn't good ,
my card doesn't have a power connector could that be the problem ?? , and i kindof have a shity PSU 400W but not real 400w it came with the Case !! ,can anyone help ??? ,any advice is Welcome :respect: ,
could it be that without a power connector it doesn't have enough juice to power it ?? !!!

That card also can't be unlocked to something more than 8 pipes. Probably it could hides R480 which is very good overclocker. Try the core max. overclock with ATITool and if you figure out that it can reach 480-500MHz then return here. If it is capable of only 420-450MHz then it is R430 and you can't do more to improve the performance.

Obviously your core isn't the best specimen (R480). With the present Vcore (you have to measure it) 1.3-1.4V? that is the limit. If you want more then you need voltmod of the core voltage. 1.45V should be OK for that core.

PCI-E could supply app. 70W. With 12 pipes it is absolutely enough.

You have the very same situation just the names are different. And use X800PRO, XT BIOS for AGP and flash adapter 1 not 0.

No more pipes for that core. R480, R430 can't be hardmoded.

I have a Sapphire X800 GTO AGP 256 with R430 modded to 16pp.

I tried my best but if i try more than 456/567 my screen gets black after a while playing or artifact scanning in atitool.
I dont think this is the maximum of my card, because I have a 350W crap power supply and 2 DVD, 2 harddrives and some pretty fans for my 1700+...
theres no temperature problem, the max is 65° after some hours "full load".
The power supply has 16A at 12V which makes 192W.
What do you say? would a better power supply help?

Thanks! Bios for VIVO cards? I've used this, after logon XP installs a new driver, set down the depth to 8bit, after switching to 32bit depth the card flickers strongly..! Reboot immediatly...

The X800XL AGP BIOS isn't modified. It is just X800XL AGP BIOS and you can use it on card like in the pdf file because it is X800XL ;) .

Smell? I mean my nose says to me, it smells somewhat (on the gpu). (more heat make more smell)
566 + 634MHz? I used atitool; "find max core & find max mem", that's all what i done. 1 time.
"WTF" means? I'm german speaking, my english is not so good...
And YES, i think also, the card fries at the overclocked speeds. The card runs with default setting - always. (400/490MHz). :ohwell: The card is healthy! (However have I large eyes made as me atitool this worth (speeds) indicated.) Is this a 800 or 850? (on gpu stands X850?) :confused:

thta card should run great at speeds of 530 core 550 mem set them manually the do a scan for artifacts with ATI tool if you get no artifacts after 1/2 hour then move clocks up 5 points each and repeat scan . keep doing untill you get artifacts then back clocks down 5 points .. set/save in profile of ati tool .. card will boot to default speeds 400/490 .. when you want to play game load profile ...fi while playing game you get artifacts back clocks down again make new profile ....once you find clocks that run stable while playing games for a long time ..you can then edit the bios for the stable clocks and flash to card then it will boot to those clocks ... or you can leave the bios as is and just load profile when you want to play ....F

yes you can use the xt after test if card runs stable at 520/540 and it should with the x850 gpu ... just watch the temps of the card while you test & during gaming test if card runs above 65/70c then you should look into some better cooling for it ....I run the same card on this rig at 564/588 with modded cooling .... also can supply you with modded memmory times if you want ...

Hmm, i think my one have the 850gpu (X850 stands on the chip), in this case i'm looking for a X850 bios. Overclocking in classic case i need not if a adequate bios is available (with fast(er) 850-timings). For faster memorytimings i let you know what's going on... did they not work also faster when the gpu is working faster? My last card was a 9800ProICEQ, cooling was on this model very good! Xeonfan, you can't unlock but with R481 (recognized like R420) and 12 pipes it should overclock pretty well. Also the memory should be 1.4ns = 700x2 =1400MHz ;) .

The X800XL AGP BIOS isn't modified. It is just X800XL AGP BIOS and you can use it on card like in the pdf file because it is X800XL ;) .

My issue is this, when I flash to the x800xl bios, it freaks with random marks(seemingly) and blacks out or freezes a small white square on the reboot (although it still appears to be booting in the back ground):shadedshu , I then have to put the ver. 1 disk back in and blindly re-install, which makes it work perfectly again. Any ideas or suggestions to make this a x800xl in the bios?:banghead:

It should be a low price version AGP card with DDR1 (2.8ns = 350MHz). I will not be surprised if you discover R481 (X850PRO core). For sure you can clock the core up to 520-560MHz with good cooling. It can't open the last quad to 16 pipes. The memory can be clocked with max. 20-30MHz but the core is more important.

It's exactly as you said. The core can go up to 520Mhz when the memory is 350Mhz default and this can go up to 390Mhz with default core frequencies (both without artifacts). I have it at 465/390 stable. I guess I can't OC it more without ramsinks and a good cooler.. :(

Ok, I'm lost?

I have a X800 gt R423 ( says x800se on chip ). I can get the core from 425 stock, to 575 and the Mem from 350 to 400. It has DDR1 with hynix 2.8ns memory.

I install atitool and it showed I had 16p unlocked. I rebooted and now I have 8? Sreen shots are included, I've not changed or un-installed any drivers. I uploaded my bios I flash with and the core has the lazer cuts. If I take my old ladies finger nail polish ( stuff to make them shiny ) will this work to brige the lazer cut? I could see it briding them while wet, but once it hardens will it still make contact? Also could someone edit my bios to show as an XT? I can't find any XT bios that will work with my card B/C of the DDR1 memory

That card can't be unlocked to 16 pipes. Probably it also hasn't temperature measuring chip LM63 that's why you can't see the temperature in both programs.

In fact this is a X800XT VIVO PCI-E card with R423 core. It can be unlocked to 16 pipes using your original BIOS (modede to 16 pipes), X800XT VIVO PCI-E BIOS or my special moded BIOS which will "transform" your card to X850XT or XT PE if it can handle the speeds.
