X800 fuses data for unlocking

Aah, have to love those GTO² cards from Sapphire :D
I had four boxes of those (10 cards in each), and every single card was unlockable to 16 pipelines.

They also overclock pretty well, thou the overclockablity varies alot between the cards.
All of the cards can loop 3DMark05 at 550MHz / 565MHz for several hours or do some artifact scanning (ATiTool) without any problems. I even cover the cards with almost airtight box to simulate the worst possible enviroment. During the testing temps can raise up to 55c degrees inside the box.

Thats why I deliver all my GTO² cards premodded to 16 pipelines and X850XT frequencies (520MHz / 540MHz), without any additional fee and with full warranty of course.

When I said that there is big difference in overclockability, I really meant it:
If found that most of the cards max out at 580MHz (gpu) / 610MHz (mem), thats error free artifact scanning 20mins. Some of the best cards maxed out at 623MHz (gpu) / 631MHz (mem). Pretty big differences between cards from the same batch. Those cherry ones are picked for further processing... (T.S.A Edition)... ;)

I wonder why Sapphire made this kind of product?
It is obvious that the gpu´s are fully functional (no broken pipelines), they overclock even better that Sapphire´s X850XT cards.

With few mods these things can outperform my hand picked Sapphire X850XT Platinum
that can run at 750MHz (gpu) and 675MHz (mem) with air cooling. Not too shabby for a card that costs 300$ less :eek:

I've got a Connect3D X850Pro AGP (r481), I've tried to do the softmod with no go (I had not much hope since the fuse strings on atitool didn't have the right "F"s on it)

A few days ago I've put a Zalman VF700-Cu and took a closer look to find confirm the existence of a lasercut on the gpu and there it was.

Is it possible to do an hardmod on it using a pencil?

It's got the stock cooler on it at the moment, but i'll soon but sticking a decent cooler on it, and some ramsinks on it.

Anyway, since there are better cards available like the sapphire x800GTO2, I'm going to get as much performance out of this card for as long as it lasts, then get something a little better, even if it does mean modding or unlocking pipes to get there!

I plan to do a pencil Volt-mod my x800xl when i've got a decent cooler, zalman perhaps.
Then overclock the hell outta it!

You have to run AtiTool, hold down shift key, click Settings, release shift.
Following two lines are interesting for you:
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
If you have F on the red possition then your card is modable (can unlock pipes)

Sorry, but according to your fuses data, your card is not modable. :(
Use AtiTool to find max stable overclock rate and you will probably get the same performance boost as if you unlock pipes. GTOs are pretty good overclockable, ofcourse if you dont have one with R430 core.

Yeah with R430 you can get max 20-30 MHz boost. Its very sad compared with OCed R480 and R423 where you can get aproximately 150 MHz boost.
Mine voltmoded from 1.45V to 1.55V can run max at 430 MHz without artifacts. I have been watching a lot of R430 cores a only few could reach 425 Mhz without voltmod.

I expect even then it won't get to 500mhz, The ram will go a lot further with the ramsinks though, at the moment, after gaming, you can't touch them, so they must be more than 60*c :eek:

I like the look of the sapphire x800GTO2... with the guaranteed R480 core, modded to 16 pipes x850xtpe... with decent a decent cooler!**Drool** After a little tweaking, overclocking and volt-modding, those will almost keep up with the x1800xt :D

450 MHz for core is a very good result, in this case you will not get more without voltmod and better cooling.

See the other end of the box that contains the S/N sticker.
If it says 3038053xxxxxxxx the card should be moddable.
If it says 3038054xxxxxxxx or higher the card should be permanently locked.

What type of core do you have? R430?
If you have R430 you would not be able to unlock, but your fuses data seems interesting. If there is F instead of E then it would be unlockable.
But dont give up, I think that there is some possibility to unlock your pipes.

Just finished the mods of GTO² T.S.A Edition (prototype).
This card is supposed to be used by customers, so I made the mods little different this time.
I didn´t use a resistor for GPU mods, but I used VIDs instead. The voltage can be adjusted via jumpers so the customers do not necessarily need a multimeter. They just have to install the jumpers correctly and they will know exactly how much voltage is fed to gpu. The gpu voltage can be adjusted between 0.00V - 2.00V, but the warranty is voided if 1.65V exceeded ;)

Since VDD & VDDQ voltage cannot be changed by VIDs I used variable resistors with safety features. The voltage can be adjusted up to 2.35V. There is another variable resistor added in cirquit (one for VDD & VDDQ) to make sure that the resistance doesn´t drop below certain point (that corresponds 2.35V).

I used some Microcool and Coolermaster heatsink for the power regulation components.
As usual, I attached them with Arctic Silver Adhesive.

For the gpu I added custom made 600g pure copper heatsink.
It can keep the gpu temperature under 50c in full load and 700MHz clocks.

I had to run some 3DMark05 with the last version of the "prototype" card.
The card is pretty much an average overclocker, but it is still doing pretty nice with quite weak fan. I selected 1.60V for the gpu, and 2.2V for the memory (VDD & VDDQ).
The memory will be doing much higher, once I install the heatsinks.

Sapphire X800GTO² T.S.A Edition: GPU 705MHz (1.60V), Memory 651MHz (2.2V).

I consider that 12 pipes are possible for you. Remove the cooler and if your right bridge is cutted - connect it. Flash with PRO BIOS but use modified flashrom. Your config_rom_fuses should be changed from 0x22 to 0x21. Only if you see 0x21 and the bridge is connected you can have 12 pipes ;) . If your screen goes black after flashing means bad pipe quad and you should return to original 8 pipe BIOS. Don't forget to backup your original BIOS :D .

I bought a C3D X800GTO to put in another computer of mine and I wanted to flash it, the fuse in ATITool shows that the card should be flashable. Now when I try to use flashrom to flash it, I can't get flashrom to boot off the floppy, is there an alternative?

hmm, sounds like you need to change the boot sequence in the bios.

You need to get into the bios, and change a setting in the boot section, so that the floppy disk is checked for bootable media before booting from the hard drive.

To get into the bios, you need to press a key while the computer is starting up, during the POST checks. The usual keys are 'del' or 'F8' or F10'.

When it stops booting from floppy, you have to type: atiflash.exe and all the instructions will come up. You can then add whatever extentions you like. For example:

A:\> atiflash -i 0 (to check the new bios is ok.)

Story goes, i learned that alot of the X800's could be flashed from 12 pipes to 16. I know how important pipelines are so i investigated. I ended up getting a program off the overclockers forum to do this, which involved booting from cd and basically chooseing from

Unlock 16 pipes , Rollback to 12

Some of you may know of it. Anyway wasnt till after i done this i found out that it was ment for the GTO2:banghead: , Regardless it said it was successfull. The computer reads the card as a X850xt (even had to install new drivers) but i checked and the pipe's were still at 12. I thought this was strange and before i went to mess it up more i thought it would be wise to consult you guys . From what i read in the forum you need the information for ATITool which i have attached to this message. Could you guys tell me if the card can be unlocked to 16, and if not is it ok to keep at as it is (reading as a X850) because i cant seem to get the old one back, i tried roling back through the flash but wasnt forgoing. And if it cant be unlocked is there any Bios file on this site that may help performance? As i see there is afew. I am new to this unlocking thing and want to learn so please bear with me :ohwell:

hmmm, we've seen a few fuses like that, but it generally indicates the last quad can't be unlocked :( on the second line of fuse data, you will notice that there is an E at the end. If that had been an F you'd be able to unlock it. Sorry :(

On another note, how does the card perform now it's a 12-pipe x850xt?

Yea about the way it runs. Well when i frist done it i did notice a slight performance increase. The FPS on one of my games (WOW) seemed a few bits higher. So i decided to keep it there but today the cards performance (on WOW) seems quite poor. the FPS seems to be plummeting at times where it didnt before.Running pretty bad :cry: Thats why i was asking about mybye one of the bios updates on this site. Mybye they could help increase the performance. Any bios updates there for a unlockable X800? and any way to get it back to a normal X800 instead of the X850? incase thats causeing the poor performance


*EDIT* To get you a straight answear i went and played for ages tonight, keeping an eye on the fps. It is definetly worse. In some areas alot worse.And im guessing the "upgrade" to X850 has something to do with it. So i'm going to have to get it back. Any ideas? Again if there is a updated Bios file for my card (Not to unlock anything, just a normal bios update) i can put that on, and that should restore it ( i saw one ATIFLASH 3.0.9 , what does that do, update the bios?) Just received a Connect3D X800 GTO from New Egg... I don't have pics cuz I'm at work, but this morning I ran ATI Tool and had E's where I needed F's. I don't remember which core the card has. Now I'm a little uncertain about my modding options because there are two semi-conflicting articles.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=5215 says you need F's... while http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/100 says any VIVO cards should be viable. The picture on the second article showing the yellow CD Audio connector matches that of my card... and the specs on New Egg list it as VIVO.

So which is definitive? The fuses or the VIVO? Can I softmod? And if I can't because there's a laser cut, is there a hardmod possible? I've seen several articles in my rampant googling indicating that X800 Pro cards can be hardmodded to X800XT. Can a similar method be used here?

And if I'm SOL for the extra 4 pipes, what's plan B? ;)

Lucky you :) . Probably Sapphire has finished all 12 pipe cores and for Xmas they delivered to you 16 pipes enabled core :D . Just use Modified flashrom (it is important, don't miss it) use XL or modded BIOS (your original BIOS modded to 16 pipes).

These are not pure "X800GTO". Your card is just repacked X800XL with flashed bios. Some companies sell these as X800GTO16, but it seemes that Sapphire again supprised us with something "new".

I flashed the card with bios from ati, sapphire, club3d, powercolor, asus
x800 xt, pro and xt pe versions...
it still stays on 8 pipelines
so I gone back to the original bios

And Now ?
Did I have a chance to lock the other pipes?

Yes you also can have 16 pipes with just BIOS flashing with (16 pipe BIOS) using modified flashrom !!!

Dolf and what about r420 on x800gt agp version. Have you ever cheard if somebody unlocked this card to 12 pipelines??

To be honest with you I will say that X800GT AGP in fact is the good old SE. I compare the BIOSes of GT and SE and guess what - they are absolutely equal with one little exception GT and SE sufix.

Let's back to your question whether is possible to mod such card to 12 pipes my answer will be YES. (Probably some cards will work with 16 pipes also). Just connect right bridge (further you can continue with the left - if it is disconnected) and flash with X800PRO BIOS using modified flashrom!!! :D . Post your fuse results and the number of the pipes after flashing ;) .

I kind of see that it isn't modable to 16 pipelines, but I knew that was a possibility before buying the card. I would like to know what the advantages are of flashing the bios anyway.

And on the topic of overclocking, im not completely certain that I want to overclock the card right now and run the risk of burning something. I have had bad experience with overclocking my older Sapphire radeon 9600xt and it has left me in a state of constant paranoia. lol. Any comments appreciated :)

Please see that: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/100. Your core should have similar laser cut but on the right side (or on both sides). Use conductive glue or lacquer and connect the right bridge (dots). You should measure just some ohms resistance or 0.x ohm. You can also solder wire but in both cases clear the dots with something sharp because they are protected with something like lacquer.

hello there, i got Sapphire x800GTO2 (PCX), it has enabled all16 pipes by defaulf and uses X800XL bios (readed by atitool and checked), atitool shows R430, in bios is written "R480 X800 XL BIOS". Ok so i tried to find max clocks, i got stable GPU/MEM 553/594 (with stock cooler - maybe i will later replace it with arctic ati silencer 5r2). I wanted to flash to different bios, i dont wantet to use 850XT PE cos its timings are pretty on egde on what my card can go, insted i tried to flash to X850XT (520/540 clocks). but after flash (succesfull) the fan does not work (chcescek visualy - its stopped and atitool shows 5%). ok i put back original bios, and the fan works again. Which bios shoud i use to get X850XT and working fan ?? thanks

Lazy, maybe, but not because I didn't feel like reading over 80 pages worth of "can I unlock more pipes on this card?" so after about 15 pages, I skipped to the end. I'll skip back now and see if I can find what you're talking about. I did read that connecting the lasercuts wasn't enough though.

hi,
i need a little help, i just bought a GTO² and in ati tool it says its got 16 active pipelines even though i havent flashed the bios. also it has two dvi out ports, i thought it had one?. the ati tool stats are in the attachments. it also says i have the R340 chip, but i know it has the R480 chip as i saw it when i was putting better coolent paste on it. i have been OCing it without flasing the bios as it says i have 16 pipelines. when stock i got 4914 in 3dmark05 an when OCed i got 5802. the core clock is running at 453mhz and the memory clock at 588mhz, would flasing the bios show the R480 chip and allow higher clock speeds and better performance?

and may i dare ask, whats the easiest and safest way of flashing the bios, i know theres a bid fo threat on it but i dont have the time to read it all:o

Can you dump your BIOS and post it here? I have Connect3D X800 GTO Vivo, but i lost my original BIOS file. Unfortunatly, I didnt find appropriate modified BIOS for my ViVo, so i tried with x800 GTO non ViVo. I unlocked the pipes, but lost VIVO support. Tried also with different X800XL, X850 XT PE, but no go.

Nope ....my theory was wrong....still no luck :banghead: ....I have seen post where flashrom indicates a locked status and they were able to complete :rolleyes: the flash so I am still hoping to get this modded.

i used rabit to look at teh x800xl bios i was using. and it said the bios had vivo enabled.. so i've unchecked that and saved bios and i'm gonna try again.. i dont think that is the cause though.

The XL Bioses available for d/l here all show 1.6ns Samsuyng Memory. I thought the AGP GTO's had 2.0 Samsung or, (as in my case) 2.0ns Infineon Memory. Could this be a cause for the messup? This is just my uneducated guess.

BTW, I'm getting the same error when I try to flash. I have a Sapphire GTO 256 MB AGP, and EXACT same ATItool readout as Tazzmania and Bronze.

The Sapphire X800GT (R420) is just a rebadged X800SE. The chip is an X800SE, and if you open the bios in a text editor, it even says it's an X800SE. Very overclockable, but I've been searching for days for how to unlock to 12 or 16 pipes, and everywhere I look everyone says that you can't do it. I read somewhere that even W1zzard couldn't make it work. If anything changes I'd love to know, but I'm not holding my breath.

We have the bios to unlock the card but we cant get flashrom to flash the card

Download modified flashrom again and prepare new boot disc with everything needed on it. Re-install the video card (pull it off and install it again) and get a new try of flashing.

Do NOT use a bios for an older X800 series AGP card on those Sapphire X800 GTO AGP cards! Seeing the information posted, I noticed that they are ones that use the bridge chip, so you absolutely MUST use a bios for a PCI Express card if you are not using the original bios! Of course, your best bet would be to use a modded version of the original bios.

BTW, maybe try using ATIFlash and see if that works (at least version 3). The parameters are the same, but also add -newbios to the end.

Hmm, repost your fuses data (so I don't have to look it up). According to what dolf has said earlier, the chip type can be determined whether it is R423 or R430/R480 based on the fuses. The fuses for R430 and R480 are indistinguishable from each other, but your default gpu clock is beyond what is possible for R430, so that rules it out for an X800 GT.

For an R480 or R430 chip, they seem to always look like this:
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES: 0xFFFF?FFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES: 0xFFFFFF9?

If you look back a few pages you see that we all are having a problem flashing the Sapphire X800 GTO , our fuse data seems to be good (f's in the right spots) however we get an error when using flashrom (downloaded from bios section on this site). Any ideas :banghead:

I took off my video card's heatsink to apply some new thermal paste and realized that the chip itself (on my card) said X800 PRO PCI-E...

If shows 0x22 no more pipes - you will stay with 8 pipes. 0x22 means that 2 pipe quads are blocked on BIOS level ;) . 0x21 means that 1 quad is blocked (translated - 12 instead 8 pipes ;) :D )

I just tried flashing to that bios, flash went perfectly - no errors. When I rebooted, I cam up w/ nothing but a black screen. It still booted into windows (i heard the little song), but I had no picture on my screen:wtf: . I had to re-flash to my backed up original bios, and now everyting is back to normal.

Looks like it's back to the ole' drawing board for BigSexy.

It seems that your card has R430 core. 445 MHz is a very good overclock for R430 and you will not increase the frequency any more without Vmod and better cooling.
The cards you mentioned clocked to 550 are with R480 core, which is much more overclockable than R430.

you have to use the PCI-E BIOS with these cards because theyre using the PCI-E core and the bridge chip. using an AGP bios would just make things that much worse.

alright....so instead of trying an X800XL bios again, i used the BIOS that was originally modified for me, which wouldnt flash with flashrom, and it flashed perfectly using atiflash. now running all 16 pipes. my advice: just have your original bios modified, using a bios meant for an X800XL could work, but it seems that having your original bios modded is just gonna be a lot safer.

Even today is difficult to find X850XT AGP for just $250 US. X850XT AGP could be found for app.290-330EUR or 330-390USD. Moddable X850PRO VIVO AGP can be found for app. 260-280EUR or 300-330USD. All this is in Europe (Germany) but I am not from there. I just have a friends there which can deliver some goods for me. In USA should be cheaper http://www.pricewatch.com/

Example for moddable PRO VIVO for 255USD which can be converted to XT http://www.isquaredinc.com/ATIRX850Pinfo.html

About unlocking of the X850PRO AGP to XT or XT PE it is still possible but with some certain brands :) .

We were able to unlock the Sapphire X800GTO 256 AGP to 16 pipes with a modded Bios and ATIFLASH. After looking at his post the fuse data seems to be right. I would have one of the one of the senior members look at the bios but maybe you have lucked out as well.

After finding out what number your graphics card is you want to flash, go about flashing as normal. eg:

atiflash -p -f 0 newbios.bin

You just needed to verify that your graphics card is still '0' and not '1' after installing the PCI one.

And how do you do that without seeing what your typing on the screen?!?! Theres nothing hard about putting a PCI grapihcs card in just so you can see what your doing. Dynesitu's screen is completely blank at the moment. Flashing is tricky enough the first few times even when you can see what your doing.

EDIT: I am a complete idiot, i should have taken the time to do the research as megatron explains below.

Its a little extravagant having 2 graphics cards in the event u have a bad flash. If u took the time to research the option Im sure you would find a multitude of guides on how to "blind flash".

If u have not prepared a floppy disk (Im certain it could be done with a cd also), then u will need a 2nd pc. With a floppy, you can open a file "autoexec.bat" which will be there if u format and "make a boot disk". This file can be edited with the line atiflash -p -f 0 newbios.bin. This way if u have boot from floppy enabled in bios (which is enabled by default on clearing cmos), the card will be flashed simply by having the disk in the drive and turning on the pc.

This is not meant to be a comprehensive guide, and ofcourse u need a floppy or a CD/DVD drive to use this method. If u dont then a 2nd pci graphics card may well suit you.

Edit: To open "autoexec.bat" type the name in the open dialog box since it wont show up when browsing the floppy's directory.

1. yes it is dual slot,but it is a bit noisy ( i have water cooling so it is the only thing makes noises ),

it is just like that card but it's AGP version ( curiously MSI don't have that card on the list, i dont know why )
2. for Core is aprox 560MHz
3. for Memory is about 600MHz

So i'm posting again (sorry i'm a noob). i understand that i have no more pipes on my card, if i flash the bios would it matter? can i do something to my card to rise the performance?? It's an asus x800 gto series. I'm mad because in 3dmark 03 it scored only 9000 and in '05 - 4200.I can overclock the core from 400 to 442-445 but the mem's at 988(stock 984) i'm getting artifacts.(temps are stable at 50 degrees C). Some new drivers, a newer catalist would give it a boost?? 10x, i'm attaching my atitool screenshot just in case i get lucky :). Someone told me that with rivatuner i can unlock the remaining 4 pipes whitout flashing the bios-i don't think that's possible - am i right??? :confused:

Forget about pipe unlocking even with RivaTuner (fuses show that 12 pipes are the maximum for you). For R430 speed of 440-450MHz is normal max. on air cooling. If you want more is necessary to volt modd the card and to install better cooling (if you overclock the core) :) .

My card came with 16 pipelines by default. I'm getting a decent cooler for my graphics card as soon as i have some money, it should get me a fairly good performance boost. Personally, i'd recommend you do the same thing, especially at the price of the cooler! Can't go wrong! :P
