Yes your card will be unlocked but you should use modified flashrom and 16 pipe BIOS (modded PRO or XT/XT PE). After flashing your CONFIG_ROM_FUSES should be changed from 0x681 to 0x680. If you still see 0x681 after the flashing it means that you have used "normal" flashrom not modified ;) .

I got a friend that just bought a blue x800gto²... His card came with 12 pipelines so i am helping him right now to flash it to 16pp.... I thought those would come with 16pp out of the box, just like the latest red x800gto².... But i checked his fuses and it should flash to 16pp... Here are his fuses:

Definitely your card is moddable to 16 pipes.

I also can buy you a new card in case of "incident" ;) :laugh: .

The chance to wreck your graphics card is great especially if you don't have idea what you are doing. In any other case this chance is low (very low ;) )

For sure you need 16 pipe BIOS (better to start with your original BIOS modded to 16 pipes) :) .

First of all install ATITool. Run it. Find the option "BIOS dump". Dump your present BIOS. Pack it (rar or zip) and post it here. We will mod it to 16 pipes and will return it to you.

After that it will be necessary to prepare boot floppy (in WinXP exists such option), to download modified flashrom from here:http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/100 , to unpack it on the already created floppy. Copy the modded BIOS (it will come soon) on the floppy too.

Boot from the floppy and execute the following command line (in dos mode):

flashrom -f -p 0 (it is zero not o) 16pipe.bin (name - not longer that 8 symbols with extension .bin or .rom) press "enter" and wait.

Looking the fuses (first look) it seems that no more pipes are possible for you. But it is the first time that I see combination like yours.
Even low chance to unlock the last quad I consider that it worth to do a hardmod (which means to connect your left bridge). After the connection you should post your "new" fuses again.
Only if the fuses show the desired change you probably will have 16 pipes. At present BIOS flash will not help. If you decide to hardmod don't forget to clean the contact dots of the cutted bridge with something sharp (they are covered with lacquer).

All you need is RaBiT 1.7 to do the modification. I've done this and I haven't seen any change at all besides the name - no side effects and no benefits, except that your card says it is a Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition. :D

This is normal.
When you run AtiTool without correctly installed drivers then you always get some strange readings.

Obviously your core is R480 and the Device ID is 5Dxx. Please check the Device ID in ATITool and affirm it. I will mod the your BIOS.

Here you are your BIOS modded to be recognized like X850XT PE (from ATI). I think that you shouldn't worry about screwing the card because the BIOS is absolutely the same and only SubSystem ID and the second two digits of Device ID are changed.

with the fireblade running at 420/550 using the trixx software in performance mode i get a score of 10278 on 3dmark03

I think that the case where the second "quote" comment was putted was different and the fuses were E and E on both sides where they should be F and F. Only in that case and on R481 (which has bridges to connect) should be done hardmod. Hardmod also can be done on R420 and R423 but not on R430 and R480. It is also possible that I have made mistake because if the fuses are FFFF7FFF and FFFFFF9X for sure it can't be modded at all.

Yep, i've modified the bios, so only the number of pipelines is changed, everything else will remain as it was. You won't need to reinstall the drivers either, as you would if you flashed it to an x800xl bios. The only thing is that the pipelines could be damaged, and unlocking them causes artifacts on the screen, but the flash is reversible by using the same process with the original bios you had. You will see a much higher score in all benchmarks, but in most cases the maximum core overclock is slightly reduced, and temperatures will rise by roughly 5- 8c with the stock cooler. This is normal.

You need to make sure you have the original bios on the disk as well, and the command line is the same:

atiflash -p -f -newbios 0 [biosname].bin

AFTER THE MOD
at stock core mem 400/490
no artifacts after running the scan for 10 mins and monitoring it visually.

max temps during benchmarks core = 62'c ambient =50'c fan duty cycle =40%

when i tried overclocking with trix software in performance mode i got max 408 core 546 mem
but this failed the fartifact scan in atitool straight away.
but i noticed that my +12v reading in asus probe get dropping to 11.5v so i decided to try disconnecting 1 of my hard drives and switching off my case lights and try again.
and then i got.
THE TEMPS FOR THE FOLLOWING BENCHMARKS ARE WITH THE SIDE PANEL OF THE TOWER OFF
running in performance mode using trixx software to find max clocks with fan running at 54%
max core =410 mem = 545
no artifacts after running the scan for 10 mins and monitoring it visually.
3dmark03 =11037

max temp during benchmarks =54'c

running in extreme mode using the trix software to find max clocks with fan running at 100%

the fan also still throttles up when the card reaches 65'c like it did before editing the bios.

i dont know how acurate this is but in the 3d view in atitools it shows you the average Fps
before the mod it showed an average Fps of 180.
running in extreme mode it shows an average of 257Fps

i'm thinking that maybe my PSU is stopping me from getting any higher by not being able to supply enough voltage to the graphics card because the temps are not much higher under load than they were before the mod only a couple of degrees.

Last night I performed the hardmod and now the fuses say I have 12 pipes, as does rivatuner.
I dont really notice any performance increase though.
Do i need to flash a 12 pipe bios to see the performance increase (maybe bios12.zip).

Do i have to reinstall the drivers?

With these fuses you should have 12 pipes but your original BIOS has 2 quads locked (8 pipes working). I have moded your BIOS to 12 pipes (max. possible for you). You have to flash it using modified flashrom with the following command line: flashrom -f -p 0 (zero not o) bios12p.bin

At present your CONFIG_ROM_FUSES should be something like that = 0xX2. After the successfull flashing they must be changed to 0xX1. In that case you have to count rise of the performance of about app. 15-20%.

You should see an instant boost in performance, but the next step will be to overclock your card. a good cooler from zalman or arctic cooling can be very helpful to get a good overclock. If you're using the stock cooler, try not to let the temperature exceed 80c. If it does, reduce the overclock a little.

it's not too bad, but the typical overclock for an r430 is 445mhz. How hot is the gpu after 10 minutes of running the 3d cube in ATITool @ 423/534? The stock cooler for the gto2's are pretty efficient though, it should be doing a good enough job.

Tried to overclock again tonight and reached 435/536 with no artifacts have left it here and ran for ten minutes...the GPU temp after the ten minutes was 43 degrees

Hmm, it's not temperature affecting it then. What psu do you have? sometimes if a psu has too much droop (typically low wattage generic psus) then it will make components unstable at lower speeds. Or it could be that your core just doesn't overclock very well. For example: My r480 should do 600mhz +, but does 585mhz. There are ways to inprove stability by volt-modding the card, but this is for advaced users only, and shouldn't be attempted if your soldiering skills aren't excelent.

When I pu card back in and turned on computer I get total screen coruption. If I restart a couple times everything works fine. Sorry, but it is not possible to unlock pipes on your card. :( R430 cores have the bridge on the bottom side, so there is no way how to connect it.
I think that the temperature monitoring is just disabled in bios. But the problem is that your card has 128 MB RAM, so you wont be able to find some suitable bios with temperature monitoring.
You should try to change your cards device ID to enable temp. monitoring. This is just idea, I am not sure if it will work.

Hm ... why should MSI disable it by BIOS? Temperature monitoring needs a small chip named "LM63", I read in an article by w1zzard on this site. After all, it's a low budget card, so I suppose it has been omitted. Fan monitoring isn't supported either, the fan provides no rotation signal to the graphics board.

When I compared the info given in ATI Tool w the tut. my card apparently had the F´s in the right place so my card should be moddable right? Did you plug your FAN??? Did you put thermal paste? Do you believe you went rough on it once or twice? I recommend not squeezing anything when screwing back the cooling system, otherwise you could damage a chip, mainly memory & GPU.

It was 5DXX. Where can I find the BIOS.bin? Should I use one of the bins in the BIOS database or look somewhere else? I tried using the Sapphire.X800GTO.256.Samsung16_050823.bin which loaded fine but no change in pipelines :mad:

Use the modded GTO2 BIOS (16 pipes) and flash it with modified flashrom (flashrom -f -p 0 biosname.bin) or with atiflash (atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 biosname.bin) where biosname.bin is the modded GTO2 BIOS (max 8 symbols) all in DOS mode.

I dont know what happened but when I put the old cooler back on I fixed it. When I flashed the bios I lost control of the fan. Could this be the reason it doesnt like the new cooler

I created a thread that talks specifically about upgrading the X800GTO2bios and the troubles I went through because the temlp got up to 74° on 2D and it couldn't get to windows and rebooted. I had to go to safemode and reflash the card back to the original bios and then got it modded by the one and only ShadowFlare, now it works.

It's best to use a modified bios that's specifically for your card. For some reason, flashing a gto2 with an x850 bios seems to stop the fan control working. Maybe because of a slight variation on the PCB.

Sorry, i missed your post earlier. Anyway, here's your modified 16 pipe bios.

To flash it, make an ms-dos boot disk (right click>format in my computer), and go to the downloads section, and get the latest version of ATIFlash. Put the two atiflash files on the floppy disk, along with your original and new bios. Restart your computer with the floppy disk inserted, and it should load into ms-dos (If not, you need to change the boot settings in your bios).

Once in ms-dos, type the following command:

atiflash -p -f -newbios 0 [biosname].bin (zero not o)

thanks for the help it worked without a flaw i can overclock to 450 core 550 mem thats as far as ive pushed it ,BUT i see no improvement in benchmarks dont get me wrong it plays games flawlessly but aquamarks shows no improvement ,dont scream at me but im use to nvidia you tend to see a good bit a differents when you overclock ,well what im getting at maybe its my drivers im using 6.3 ati driver is this the right one to use .anotherthing i noticed when you turn down quality it makes no change in preformance or pic for that matter.im new to the ati cards i use to own them years ago i always like the quality of the picture with them there better then nvidias,i also tried a apollo 6800 i know dont laugh but it scored better then this card .maybe im doing something wrong ,but the bottom line to me is prefomance .i would recomend this card to anyone so dont get me wrong .so is there tweaks or settings im missing what is right setting for agp arpature size .fastwrites on or off ,video cachable stuff like that,any help would be greatful i think these are questions allot of people have .im a tweaker to the end

If you don't see any difference when you unlocked the last quad of pipes, overclock the video card, or when you reduce the resolution or detail settings, then there's something else bottlenecking your system, either your cpu or ram, or both. What is the specs of your system?

thanks again for the help i have 2600xp-m clocked too 2520 11x220 t,with temp of 39c tried at stock even lower 1gig 2x512corsair xms memory. asus nforce2 a7n8x2.0.with modded bios and volt mod for mem at 3volts. i know a bit old but im waiting for some real improvement before i upgrade .this is why i bought this card was to last awhile longer dont get me wrong there is a little bit of improvement like a 1000 more in aquamarks from stock ,but i went from 52000 stock with 6800 128 meg unlocked the other four pipes and overclocked went to 61000.im not complianing just think im doing something wrong in settings or driver setting .like i said im just a tweaker trying to ssqueze a little more from my poormans machine all air cooled, gto has stock cooler only going to around 50c overclocked 45 at normal under load.would new cooler help or not. i read some where no fastwrites for ati then i read somewhere thats just certain cards .should video be cached or no .

thanks for all the help got it fixed for the most part i went to omega site and was reading he had trouble getting the new 6.3 driver done because he was getting bsod so i got thinking maybe thats my problem so i downloaded 5.8 cat drivers and man what a differents its just a little shy of the 6800 tests but with much better grafics quality.so im happy so if things dont seem right try older drivers worked for me

As far as I understood the only chance is to do a hard mod, but due to the specific DIE and SUBSTRATE fuse data of my card I'm a bit lost to find out myself if there is any chance to unlock additional 4 pipes. I would appreciate any hints that could help me.

It is not with R423 (probably R430). It seems PCIX and could be unlocked to 16 pipes. Please use ATITool to find your max core clock and if you want to flash it to 16 pipes attach your original BIOS.

Sorry, it's not possible to modify that card to 16 pipes :( It appears to use the r480 core, so you should be able to get a good overclock on it. 600/560 should be possible.

weird i was only able to clock it to 560 core and 520 memory with factory heatsink and fan.. i can squeez in a little more and bring core to 570. but the memory stays at 521 highest...

is there anyway i can bring the memory up higher? do i need to do any setting in memory timing?

and are you sure have R480 core? coz it state clearly that this is a R423 core, maybe because i used the Powercolor x800 XT bio ?

Sorry Liivaannus, there is no way to unlock the last quad on the x800rx. Club3d use the r480 core to scam the enthusiats into buying it with the hope of unlocking it, but so far, none have been succesfully unlocked.

Here you are 2 modded BIOSes 12 and 16 pipes. You can flash every of them but the max number of pipes for you is 12.

I have the same exact PowerColor card and my chip looks identical. The only difference is on the setting CONFIG_DIE_FUSES where his is 0xFFFF7FFF and mine is 0xFFFF6FFF. Can I just use his bios to bump my card to 12 pipelines or can I post my bios here and have someone fix mine?

Yes you are OK and should see 16 pipes in ATITool.

Mindraid, looking your fuses I consider that your card can work with 12 pipes instead 8. For 16 pipes you can forget but 12 is not bad "upgrade" at all. Post your original BIOS and somebody will mod it to 12 or 16 pipes (only 12 will really work). You should flash it using modified flashrom or atiflash with one of the following command lines in DOS mode:

flashrom -f -p 0 biosname.bin

or

atiflash -newbios -f -p 0 biosname.bin

biosname - shouldn't be longer that 8 symbols!

After successfull flashing your CONFIG_ROM_FUSES should be changed to 0x861 or 0x860 (original 0x862) only in that case you will see 12 pipes in ATITool. I hope the pipes in your locked quad are OK.

I've been reading around the web and the chances of getting 16 pipes on an bba X800 pro look poor. I've not modded anything yet, but is the core locked to a level that its impossible to get the extra pipes? ie on fuses hidden underneath the core.

The card is new, all I've done is replace the thermal compound and copy down the info off the core.

I'm not sure why your card doesn't support temperature monitoring, and there is no physical way for you to get 16 working pipes on your card. You can use winflash if you want to flash a modified bios with different clocks, but winflash doesn't change the number of pipes, which is why it's not used much. It's also quite dangerous flashing with winflash because if something goes wrong, you can't blindflash, as you could if you were using an ms-dos bootdisk with atiflash on it.

You might not have a temperature monitoring chip on your card, this article will help you here:

It wasn't a great idea to go with powercolor, they are a terrible company, selling poor quality cards. If you decide to buy another one soon, go with one of the following companies:

ATI (built by ati)
Sapphire (awsome cards!)
Connect3d/Club3d (good cards, but not always moddable)

Sorry Talanzaar, it's not possible to unlock your card to 16 pipes. If you feel like doing something a little adventurous, you could always have a go at volt modding it, so it will overclock further. You will need some good aftermarket cooling before you try this though.

There is a very small chance that the fuses data would change if you connect bridges on your GPU.

I have a Sapphire X800GT PCI-E video card. I removed the HSF and found that it uses the R423 core (oddly it is labeled X800SE). I have used ATI Tool to overclock the core and memory to 555MHz and 609MHz (1218MHz memory). I have also already bridged the pipelines, but have not yet flashed the BIOS. Someone with proven experience unlocking THIS CARD please tell me if it looks possible:

these is the info ati tool shows me, I have a Sapphire x800gto Fireblade edition, (been working great sofar), in 3d mark 03 i got 11858, and in 05 i got 5466 (oc 530 core 555 mem), at a temp between 69-71, running artifacts for more than 1h, so i think it's stable, well, i was wondering if this card could be modd to 16 pipes ,

This is supposed to be a ATI Radeon X850 Pro and by the looks of it, it's VIVO because it has that yellow Audio plug at the upper end of it. The problem is I thought the pro was suppose to have stock speeds of 507/520... but mine was set to 500/500. Not only that but I have been trying to unlock the 4 pipelines will no success.... If someone could help me out it would be appriciated.

I've tried modding the bios file myself... using a pre modded one from the database (XT for AGP), and I've tried using flashrom using the empty.bin first than flashing it with what I want.... so far the only thing that worked was flashing it to an XT, but the pipelines did not change. So I flashed it back....

Edit: This is also an ATI card not a 3rd party card based on ATI, if that matters

Unfortunatly, your fuse data shows that the last quad of pipelines cannot be unlocked. I'm not sure why the default clocks were 500/500 though, try downloading the x850pro bios from the bios collection, and flashing that. This will get you the official default clocks, but you probably won't notice much difference in performance out of 7/20.

not sure if moddable , but think so ? rabit tells me both have 423 chips and both have 2.0n memory
also rabit tells me 1 has vivo and other not , 1 with vivo has values of 425 - mem 435
other has values of 425- mem 405
have overclocked vivo to around 455 both mem and chip - stable - 73 temp under load - not max though

any help would be great

You can't unlock the pipelines with rabit, it has to be done with a hex editing program. I can make it show as whatever you like, but i mostly just change the number of active pipelines, and the card will show as the same, and the drivers don't need to be reinstalled.

On average the core temperature will go up by 5-8c, if you plan on overclocking a lot, that zalman cooler will help a lot. I'd consider getting a better psu, a good brand 450w psu would be good, what's the rest of your system specs?

Anyway, if you can save your bios from atitool, and post it here as an attachment, i'll modify it for you. What frequencies would you like?

Your card has R430 core, so it is normal that you dont see any bridge on your chip.
Only R423 cores have this bridge.

have fixed 6.4 catalyst troubles gone back to 6.2 and can overclock again
i am a novice so forgive any stupid questions , have x800 pro with original timings of 425/430
have overclocked to 465/465 encountering artifacts 2 on the memory side , have now ran under load at these speeds for 1/2 hour without artifacts - using ati tool .24 - did use ati tool .25b14 and got 475 encountering no artifacts - temperature stayin around 68 deg
both times - is this unusual ?
rabit tells me i have vivo - but i dont have the yellow connector also no rage chip ?
can i use the ati pci-e x800 pro vivo 16 pipe 475/450 bios safely
or should i post for someone to have a look at

If you can wait few hours I can send you Bootable automated flash CD (you have to burn the image using the option "burn image" and to boot from it). It is automatic and the only thing that you have to do is to choose the desired option and to press enter ;) .
If you want it I need your mail to send it.

Hi, this is my first time using Radeon. My last card was a plain GeForce 6600. I just got this card from eBay and I'm currently learning how to use ATITool. I've read lots of posts regarding X800SE, saying that it can't be unlocked :(

Anyway, here's my fuses data. This card has 8 active pipelines and 128MB GDDR1 256Bit Hynix HY5DW283222AF-28 memory. However, 3DMark05 is showing the card as X800GT. So, can I unlock any of the pipelines?

But is the method I quoted the way to go about seeing the pipelines seen the by the software, so would software cut pipelines show up as more quads being available?

Hi, this is my first time using Radeon. My last card was a plain GeForce 6600. I just got this card from eBay and I'm currently learning how to use ATITool. I've read lots of posts regarding X800SE, saying that it can't be unlocked :(

Anyway, here's my fuses data. This card has 8 active pipelines and 128MB GDDR1 256Bit Hynix HY5DW283222AF-28 memory. However, 3DMark05 is showing the card as X800GT. So, can I unlock any of the pipelines?

You can have 12 pipes with just BIOS flashing :) . Post your original BIOS for moding to 12 (16) pipes.

Here's your bios, jp :)

To flash, format a floppy disk to create an ms-dos boot disk, then download ATIFlash 3.09 from the downloads section, and extract the files to the disk, and finally add your original and modified bios. Restart your computer, leaving the floppy disk in the drive. Once your computer has booted into ms-dos, use the following command to flash:

atiflash -p -f -newbios 0 [biosname].bin (zero, not o)

On most hex editors, there's usually a 'go to' feature, then you type "0000007A" without "", and check the hex tickbox, that should bring you to the right value :)

Go to your mail and you will find image of automated flash utility on bootable CD with the proper BIOS on it (also modded to 16 pipes and one overclocked with 16 pipes).
Use it and let me know how it works for you ;) .
