View Full Version : E8400 in stock [UK]
Novatech.co.uk have got some E8400s in stock at the moment, they had about 50 earlier today, they went down pretty quick! Anyway they're £140 with free next day shipping and they'res only 22 left! The only other place I found them in stock was Overclockers, they're selling them for £176 (was £205 ), plus delivery is well expensive there!

'Please note this item is: PRE-ORDER'
I only noticed because i was gonna get an e8400 from their ebay shop, they had that written in small letters at the bottom!

That depends on how fast you wanna go really.....to me .....yes it's worth it, more for the extra half multi, most motherboards wont stabily deliver more than 500fsb so the higher multi will help, I would guess that you could probably run stabily 24/7 at about 4.5gig, more like 4.2gig on average with the 8400, I ran 24/7 at almost that on my old 6850 (4.1gig) but I acknowledge they are not as fast because the extra cache on the wolfdales really do make a difference.
I quite fancy getting an E8200 and seeing how much I can thrash it, alledgedly my Black pearl has been known to hit 560fsb with some chips!
Edit: Will if you want a really nice chip, I am getting a Q9550 shortly, you can have my Xeon Quad!! :)

wow that is a kind offer! how much would you want for it? i would definitely buy that off you, i've been looking for a good quad for a while that would be perfect!
i was tempted to get a e8200 as well and see how fast i could get it, but its only a few quid more for the e8400 for a whole x1 multi boost so i would just get that if i was getting a dual.
thanks again for the offer, also is that msi 8800gts still for sale (it was in your sig for a while)?

OK, I am going to list the GTS on E Bay this weekend if you are interested and I would let you have the Xeon Quad for around (ish) the price of the E8400, now thats gotta be a good deal considering they cost more than a Q6600. It's only about 5 weeks old. It's top end is no better than a Q6600 G0 TBH, where it's strength really lie is that it runs cooler on less volts, for example 3.4gig on 1.3ish volts and on air it will idle there at 26C!! 3.6gig at around 1.35V and idle at 29C.

that is an extremely good deal, sounds like the perfect chip for me, the only reason I havent bought a q6600 already is that they run so hot (and are quite expensive)... keep me informed, i will snap it off you as soon as you get your new q9550! :)

well thing is....IMO because of the low multipliers, unless you get the Q9550 (8.5 multi) you are not going to get any better performance than a decent Q6600/Xeon and when you think that just the 9450 (8 multi) costs £100 more than the Q6600 and the 9550 will cost £360! it dont look such a good proposition.

yeah thats what i kinda decided, except with the q9450 you could probably get a roughly similar overclock as a q6600, but it would run cooler and be a bit faster... but probably not worth the high price tag as you said...

In theory yes but it will be difficult to hit 500fsb on a 45nm quad with anything but the real high end boards, also you may be surprised to know the TDP rating of the Yorkfield is 95W......and guess what?......the TDP rating of the Q6600 is also 95W!
