If i buy an OEM copy of Windows Vista Ultimate 64, can i use it on my current system without changing any components ?

Yes you can. The only difference between a OEM and Retail is the OEM doesn't come in a pretty box and you do not receive the retail tech support.

or you could get a student version - here in the UK if you prove your a student you can get it so much cheaper.

If I was you I would go with Home Premium over Ultimate. Ultimate just has to much crap in it and the only that might be useful would be the bitlocker, which eats 1.5Gb of HD space and encrypts your data. If your not worried about data protection every second your on your system then get Home Premium. I've used both and I just like Home Premium better.

All Ultimate is: Home Premium mashed with Business at a ridiculous price!

Thx, which model acer monitor do u have, i'm looking for a 22in at the moment, is it a good one ?

I have model # P221w. I took it to the shop to compare the 22" Acer models we carry and I just love this LCD. Gloss black frame, 2500:1 contrast ratio without the glossy crap on the LCD, and it matches my Antec Solo case.

You can duel boot with XP but I've had no problems with older games on Vista. I still play MVP' 05, Halo, and Battlefield 2 without no issues and the newer hardware makes these games look beautiful and play great at the same time.

get the OEM, i have it. even if you change ur hardware and need to reactivate, one call to automated microsoft telephone service immidiatly sorts it out. :)

as long as its 1 pc, you can change that pc a thousand times over and reactivate every single time without a hitch.

also, the oem vista key works with 32bit and 64bit os's perfectly.

also a good idea as suggested to dual boot with xp if you plan on benching your system ;)

Wait until MS releases SP1 for Vista. They are going to drop the retail pricing, and I think that the OEM versions will drop a bit too.

Vista Ultimate OEM is $189 at the Egg now. It may drop another $20.

Might be worth the wait. I am planning on going to 64b too, and I think I will wait to see if I can save a could of dollars.
