I have a BFG Tech 8800 Ultra OC Video Card and I'm experiencing low FPS while playing Battlefield 2142. I don't know what the problem could be? I have a what you call a pretty Uber system. All my drivers are up to date, and so with my BIOS. You can click on my System Specs to look at my setup. So why am I experiencing low FPS playing Battlefield 2142? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well when you say low fps how low are we talking here? How often do you encounter low fps? Give us some information on the situation please :)

Sorry for writing down so little info on the problem.
Well, I notice it happen when I get into a vehicle in-game, and sometimes just out of the blue when not in a vehicle. It also doesn't matter what server I'm on be it a 64 player server or a 16 player server. It doesn't happen all the time though but when it does happen, I usually crash back to the desktop right after experiencing really low FPS.

Yea what do you mean when you say low fps. If your talking under 30, then you definately got some issues, overheating could be the most likely culprit. Ultras tend to get pretty hot. What are your gaming temps?

I have a CoolIT Systems 80mm PCI Cooling Booster fan on top of my video card. I don't think overheating is the issue. I run at 55 degrees celcius on full load.

I'm playing on 1600x1200 @ 60Hz. But why should I be experiencing low FPS on a 8800 Ultra? BTW, I have Fraps running when I play and most of the time it's showing me that I'm playing at 100 FPS.
EDIT: It's just when it drops, it drops down to like 10-20 FPS and then crashes to the desktop.

I guess not, 55 is a nice load temp. Very nice. Is that the only game your getting this occurance on, how do other games perform?

lol just because you have an ultra doesnt mean your immune to bad game play....at any rate thats intresting id have to say your either over heating and its throtteling down or since nvidia cards dont do that...your over heating and or...something is wrong when the card is reading what your doing its almost like the card is switching between 2D and 3D clocks...but id put my money on it overheating alos make sure you anti virus isnt like kicking in your your firewall is asking your permission for you or the game to connect to the net....just because its quad big and loud with a 2lbs grfx card doesnt mean something as simple as that wont slow you down....your rez deff isnt the issue though if you were at all sorts of an insane rez id be like well do the frams drop during an explosion because that might do it but 1600x1200 is a pretty normal rez.

Bad install of BF2142? Have you tried reinstalling? Is the hard drive active when the game crashes?
P.S. Please change your signature. 4MB animated GIF images are against the rules.

Thats what I'm thinking now too. Depends on how perfomance with other games is, but this sounds specific, and is probably software.

How is your ping? And how is it before the crash? How many people are on your map when you have an issue?
I have seen this kinda stuff before with 2142 but the above questions give me an idea of whats causing it. :)

Believe it or not, you problem may be caused by punkbuster. Try getting the punkbuster updater from their site and try to update the punkbuster files used by bf2142 and see if that helps.
