Hi all,

Recently i purchased an AMD 6400+ (90nm-125W) not selled like black edition but Everest shows as it ... so i decided to overclock it, first time ever, some of you know already this story ... and during these first weeks i've noticed if i pass 1,41V on Vcore trying to maintain high speeds, my 12V rail doesn't support that load, actually i have 5x120mm fans and 1x90mm and all the stuff you can see on system specs, and that line starts falling till 11,84 or more ... moment when the machine freezes even with themps of just 55ºC/48ºC (AMD specs of max temperature of the 6400+ are 63ºC on stock speeds ...)

Here's the list i've made till now, i would prefer a 750W one (just in case i decide to go for a crossfire or sli based system) but i think a 650W one will also fit, of course the priority is a good level between performance and noise.

http://www.pcpower.com/power-supply/silencer-750-quad-black.html Powerful but just with a rail of 12V (though it's powered with 60A) ... really nice and really quiet, max of 40dbA
http://www.corsair.com/products/tx.aspx Also powerful and with the same rail of 12V feed at 60A, it's better at noise levels on lower wattage, to the limit it's just 4dbA more than the PC Power one
http://www.antec.com/ec/productDetails.php?ProdID=05650 Three lines of 12V at 19A each one (57A on total) ... dbA's are not specified.
http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Power/ToughPower/W0117/w0117.asp Four lines of 12V at 18A each one (72A on total) ... dbA's are not specified on maximum wattage, just 16dbA at 1300rpm (my HSF TT V1 hits that 16dbA at 1300rpm, and at it's highest range, 2000rpm with 86.5CFM's just blows up 24dbA, maybe it will be the same fan technology? i hope so)

Don't know if it's better to have different lines of 12V or just one, technically speaking, multiple threading is a good thing for almost everything, so i suppose it will be better also in this case but maybe i'm wrong and providing a stable line of 12V for everything it's enough. After all, most powerful seems to be the Thermaltake Toughpower ... but the Corsair TX750 is also fine, so the point is: one 12V rail or multiple 12V rails?

Without question... Get the PCPower and Cooling 750 quad. It's worth every penny, or peso, or shilling, or whatever. It will give you system enough power to explode.

Well erocker, thanks for your answer in the first case ... they're almost the same price, i use to go to a shop on Barcelona and here are the prices i'm seeing:

PC Power & Cooling 750W - 159,95 EUR
Corsair TX750 - 169,40 EUR
Antec 650W - 129,95 EUR (of course, it's less potence)

And i'm pretty sure the thermaltake will be also at that levels 150-160EUR, the point is the performance and if you say every penny i pay for that is enough to EXPLODE :P well ... it will be my birthday present, it's tomorrow so make me decide people :D

edit: i rang to the shop, and they will have PC Power & Cooling this week ... but the fact is they told me that different rails of 12V helps stability than just one, though it's well powered ... they recommend me this one of OCZ http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_modxstream_power_supply, 780W (4 lines of 12V, each one powered with 20A, total of 80A) or this Tagan of 700W http://www.tagan.com/index.php?c_id=32&products_id=173&p_cata_id=66 ... i think OCZ will be the same level as PC Power & Cooling (cause it's OCZ branded too) so ... what you think?

well i can also vouch for the Silencer 750, but you dont need it. you could go with the Corsair HX620 for $105 after rebate and google checkout. this is the best modular psu on the market and you wont have to hide all the unused cables. i had the HX520 which is just as reliable but smaller. i sold it to MKmods here on the forum a few weeks ago. if i didnt buy the Silencer 750 the HX620 would be in my case right now. save your money, and the clutter.

I purchased the OCZ ModXStream 780W finally, it's been running since 18 days almost 24/7 with always overclocked cpu, overclocked ram and video card, as well as all the stuff and fans connected and no fails, voltages never went down: at 100% 12V it's still 12,10, 5V is 5,08 and 3V is 3,30V.

They told me some OCZ PSUS should fail cause a hardware failure but this one, till the moment is running flawless. We discussed in another thread about that PC Power & Cooling it's now part of OCZ group, so since anybody wants a worst quality on PC P&C PSU's, i think OCZ has increased their capability to run and make better PSU's.

I really appreciate any comment and i'll keep doing but since i've already own the PSU i'll keep you informed of the performance of this particular one.

Thanks all :toast:

I was debating between an OCZ SilentXStream or something like that and a Corsair. The Corsair was vouched for, so I went for it. Expensive as far as I'm concerned but its quiet, runs cool, and powers my rig so far (haven't OC'd yet but I should be fine). Nice choice on the PSU on your part though.

My PC & Power has been sweet. I hear other fans and not it to be honest. All so remember 750w usage and that would leave it with 75w headroom as it's max is 825w. Even after a few years it should be able to give you good watts \ amps. And to add to that 5y warranty.

PC&P all the way.. Great peeps to talk to as well.

750W Continuous @ 40°C (825W Peak) much better than 25c like most.

Definitely if my OCZ gets broken, i'll get one PC P&C Silencer 750 Quad, as erocker said it's worth every penny, i can note it in everyone comments ... where were all of you 3 weeks ago to make me decide at all?

I'm not saying i didn't trust erocker, of course i did, i read every review about that PC P&C and was the better with difference ... but since on the shop they had not PC P&C and they told me i should wait more than 2 weeks ... also OCZ reviews were good and that merge was there too ... i thought "wth? let's test it and see" ... but if 3 weeks ago i'd have the same amount of comments as now, hell, i'll be owning a PC P&C!!!

Thanks to all again :D
