Hi Guys,
Before I start I would like to thank all those guys who have helped me in the past with my 4CoreDual .... (bag of wank), my X1950XT AGP and my Viglen Envy 19t ..... thnx :)
I must now ask for some help with my new mobo and ram .....
I have a GA-P35DS3R with a Q6600 and 2 x 1gb PC6400 (Reaper 4-4-4-15).
The peoblem I have is that I spent like £60 on the RAM at the weekend with the aim of pushing my mobo to the max, but, as I should have expected, It does no better than with my old PC5300... ish :((
With my old PC5300 I could make my board run @ 420 nb giving 1680 fsb x 8 multi = 3.36ghz, mem 1:1 @ 2.5v 6-8-8-20.
With this new ram I can do 433 nb giving 1733 fsb x 6 multi = 2.6ghz, mem 1:1 @ 2.2v 4-4-4-15.
I was expecting this OCZ Reaper RAM to do much more !!! ..... which it does ........
When I set nb to 400 mhz giving 1600 fsb and use a 2.4 multi on my ram it will run @ 960mhz 4-4-4-15 @ 2.2v ....... :(
What is holding me back? Will my nb just not work over 433 mhz? I read on a few reviews this board should do 475-515mhz hst clk @ normal nb voltage but I can't make this one do anything over 433mhz regardless of my kik ass ram and even if i give the board a shed load of juice it still has a fit n crashes :((
Is my cpu limiting me? I heard somewhere that all cpus have a fsb limit? I presume thats the limit at which data may be accepted into the cpu?
All your comments are appreciated on this as I really need to get the most out of my nice new shinny 8800gts and 500 x 6 would be oh so nice !!!

The q6600 has a hardtime around 450Mhz, could be lower or higher per chip. You will need to do extra tweeking to get it stable.
The highest I could hit on water was a x8 multi @ 475mhz.

thats on water ?
I did read that the quads didn't overclock as well as the duals :(
What tweaking do you recomend m8? is it the nb thats unstable feeding a quad at 450+ or the quad thats unstable accepting the fsb high mhz? I could do voltages for either?

My advice, if you have not already would be to increase the NB voltage 2 increments (to be safe at this stage), does the board have an FSB terminal voltage and PLL voltage option also?
One other thing, humour me and try putting your 2 sticks of ram in the other dual channel (1) slots to see if that helps.

You will need to up the FSB voltage for sure at least 1 notch above default.
Also, what strap are you using on the RAM? try for a 266/800. This will allow you to push the FSB and keep the ram around 1066Mhz.

Did you press ctrl + f1 in the bios and have a look at the hidden settings?

I'm using 266/533 strap ... 1:1, ram runs @ 800mhz when nb is 400.

yeah, I tried it @ cl3, 4 & 5 good results 2 ....
@ cl3 ram will do 766
@ cl4 ram will do 980
cl5 seemed to suck ass and only did 866 :(( 433 1:1.

You may have hit a FSB hole, try a higher strap.

you mean like use a 2.4 multi on my mem 266/648 ?? ..... @ over 1600fsb that would mean my mem is @ like 1ghz+ ??
How fast will this stuff go ??

OCZ Reaper should be able to handle DDR500 (1000Mhz) @ 2.1 or 2.2Volts. 4.5.5.5.15, or 5.5.5.5.15
The fastest I have seen this ram run is 1030Mhz @ 5.5.5.5.18 w/ 2.2Volts.

Im sure theres somthing i dissabled in my bios that was limiting my memory overclocking cant remember what it was im not at my pc atm but ill let you know.i think it was in the advanced options.

Im running ocz reapers too but i havent really tried pushing the overclocking too much I ran them at 900mhz without having to change the timmings at all 4-4-4-12 and at 2.1v But there was somthing i dissabled in the advanced options to get them to boot stable as they werent booting at all before i dissabled it. i know i have the C1E dissabled but theres a couple more options. Ill report back later have a look maybe you can find them.

My corsair dominator pair was able to boot and play games like Counter-Strike Source or NFS Pro-Street, encoding videos and some hard stuff at 5.5.5.15@1140@2.25-2.3V, they're rated to do 4.4.4.12@800@2.1V so ... i was amazed of that hard overclocking ... after hard jobs, no errors on memtest86+ and the ram was not hot :)

Well the corsairs all have micron d9's. I do not believe the OCZ Reapers use these chips. So about 200 - 230Mhz over stock is all they will get.

Well really he should get 3ghz 334 x9 without any problems and probably wont have to change the stock voltage either so should have a great impact on heat.So it looks like his bios settings need adjustment to me his chipsets a p35 im only running a 965 chipset and ive hit 4.3ghz on my quad so 3ghz was a snip for me on my giga board.

They use Micron D9 at DDR2 1066, they say it on newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227191), maybe it will be the same chip specs on DDR2 800?
I've heard this Micron D9 is the best chip actually to overclock huge and "safely" the ram, is it right?

I just realized your trying to go over 433 fsb maybe you should lower it to 334 x9 = 3ghz it will run alot more stable than trying to max out the fsb which will need extra voltage and isnt really a safe option because you cant measure temps and you dont know what the voltage limits are i only put mine up by 0.05 or 0.10v.

Yeah D9's are one of the best right now. Yeah the 1066Mhz chips do have them. I don't think the 667 or 800s do.

Right ive had a look in my bios and you need to dissable the following in advanced options:
"No Execute Memeory Protect"
"Cpu Enhanced C1E"
"Cpu Thermal monitor 2 TM2"
"Cpu EIST Function"
This should allow for better overclocking but if this doesnt work try a lower fsb on your cpu like 334 x 9 @3ghz it might stabilize your system and memory better theres also a option1 and option2 for the memory on mine so if ones unstable you can try the other.good luck.

Just make sure you keep the timings fairly loose and add a little voltage....not much just to be on the safe side, you can always try dropping it down again afterwards.

ok, I have it booting @ 450 (5-5-5-15) but it will not load....
Twice I have had to re-installed windows due to that blue screen of death and the hdd corruption :((
I think I will just have to settle for 400x9 & 2.4 multi on mem (980 4-4-4-15)...... i suppose it is still alot better than my northy @ 220 x 17 & pc3200 @ 3-4-4-8 :)
My memory refuses to boot above 980mhz ..... strange I think as that is @ 4-4-4-15 2.1v and 5-5-5-15 2.3v should in theory give well over 1000?
oh well, I'll keep trying tonight and post some more if I dont kill my pc :)
... oh ... and another thought ..... my pcie buss is set to 100mhz and I read that the 4coredual i used to have overclocked best @ 117mhz, is 100mhz the best option for this?
