I'm not sure who is making the BFG power supplies right now, but I've heard several complaints recently. I think you can do better for $120.

BFG PSUs are a lil iffy.
Plus for that kind of money you can get a much better brand.
Take a look at Corsair, Seasonic, Forton Source (FSP) PSUs.

the BFG PSU's are tier 4 products according to Tom's Hardware PSU rating tables, the definition of which is......OK, As Paulieg says....shop around, you can do better for $120, have a look for the OCZ StealthXStream 600W, thats a Tier 3 for Tier 4 prices and in fact cheaper, I had one and for a mid ranged PSU at almost a budget price it is well worth the money, in the UK (expensive) it is around $90.

I have to agree here, I think the 150 bucks that the PC Power & cooling 750 costs, is the best money spent on a Power supply. These by far are the most stable and consistant PS I have worked with. AND they can power anything you throw at them!

OCZ makes great PSU's, OCZ actually owns PC Power & Cooling now too! PC P&C still makes there own but they are owned by OCZ

Well, since i didn't find the PC Power & Cooling and as asb2106 said, PC Power & Cooling is now owned by OCZ, i'm sure they improved their way of making the PSU's so i gave a chance to them, i purchased last tuesday a ModXStream of 780W, don't know if it's gonna to be reliable at all with time as you said, but i'm getting stuck with the results in this 90nm 125W OC'd almost to 160W. We'll see :)

Actually if you look at the tables, a GameXStream is Tier 2 and thats VERY good but I agree, PC P&W are top dollar but for his price range, the OCZ's are good bang for buck, I had the StealthXStream and whilst only a mid range unit, I had nothing but stability and praise for it.

Stealth, Game XStream series just die and I have no explanation to why you can see people complaining about problematic cases or the power supplies just roll over in google. of course someone will say they own one and have had no problems but that could be to a multitude of reasons maybe they don't put it to the test? either way you don't have to know about capacitors or heatsinks to spot a Quality Power Supply like the Corsair or PCP&C. BFG is descent but at that wattage range you can find better.

Lol, the only reliable way to judge a piece of harware is from your own experiences, you wont find any hardware out there that has not had failures, I will let you decide if I put mine to the test when I had it, it ran a Quad at 4gig, a voltmodded 8800GT at 840mhz on the core (it fried)....the GT that was not the OCZ :D......3 hard drives, 2 optical drives, 4gb of heavily overclocked ram, an x38 motherboard etc etc, now whilst that might not quite be pulling 600W at peak load on the system that will be giving it some fairly serious stress.

Thermaltake was the only choice at this wattage range at the time, I hear what your saying but OCZ Power Supplies die more often than not. Fugger uses the exact same model, eat a tim tam :)

I am not suggesting that an OCZ is better than a Thermaltake, after all I have a Thermaltake too! However, the way you have worded your posts so far suggest that based on info on the internet etc about failures with OCZ units they are crap, but that does not apply to failures with thermaltake units?

Actually, we are both wrong, jonnyguru put the Silencer 750w (and Corsairs) in Tier 3 and OCZ in Tier 4. I confused the Silencer with Turbo-Cool 1000w, thats the Tier 1 PSU.

I really want to think OCZ improved their way of production stealing the knowledge to PC P&C to avoid that hardware fails you're saying, all the companies take a further look to these kind of forums to improve the quality and the performance, sincerely i'm wishing it cause OCZ seems a serious brand and its reputation on memory is perfect ... last tuesday thinking on that i acquired a modular one, not StealthXStream or GameXStream, it's a ModXStream and it's 12V quad-rail powered with 20A each one, was more powerful than the PC P&C Silencer Quad 750W (just one rail of 60A for 12V in front of the 80A -20x4- and 24A to 3.33V in front of 30A this one is giving) and of course it was modular, which means a better cable management for me ... and if the tech inside is good as PC P&C as it should be since they're the same brand and ... or PC P&C performance decreases or OCZ one increases, there's no other chance since they're merged.

I really hope mine is one of the other 50% that won't fail ... but if it was, in how much time should i expect for the popping?

Well as I said earlier, I can only speak from personal expereince, there are a lot of OCZ users in these forums and from what I can tell, they cant speak highly enough of them, and TBH, with the GameXStream and Evo Stream in Tier 2, that would suggest those particular models are good, like I said, all hardware fails, if you can find any PSU that has not I would very much like to try one of them out! personally, I dont think there are any abnormal issues with OCZ.

i think they brought PC & Power to make there OCZ PSU's stronger. Al so think they did it to get 2 parts of the PSU argument for example modular and dual rails as PC & Power swear in saying that one rail and not modular are better there fore getting my interest with PC & Power products and others with OCZ.

Thats as may be but my point there was that in Tom's it has it as a Tier 2 which was what I said.......and many would Trust Tom's over Jonnyguru also :p but as I said early, I trust myself more than both, and my experience of OCZ PSU's is fantastic.

The reason i like jonnyguru's reviews is cause the guy really knows his shit and speaks the truth about his findings, toms on the other hand have been negligent/biased at times, but they are not bad overall, they are just much bigger than most other publishers and therefore more well known
