I just checked the member list and couldn't help but notice that 90%+ of the "members" here has 0 to 10 posts. I know high member counts look interesting and all, but not this way. I recall when EOCF (www.eocf.com) had 16,000 members and it had seriously 10 times the traffic this site currently has, there's just.. well.. 90%+ members that probably joined just to download something (like recently ATiTool for nVidia cards lol) and never to be seen again. I mean... I can't even realistically look myself up on the member list for all the pages of 0 postcount "members" I have to scroll through, its whack

their phase section is almost dead. I fyou want to talk phase change goto XS.
Also This site has an impressive number of completed case mods the mods here > than EOCF

I must say this forum's replies are much better than all the others I've been at. ex. at Guru3d they have an immense number of posts and all that (like 1000 per day) but they are mostly just posts like "you suck" or "your dumb" or some useless <10 word replies. That's why I come here every day! And the site has grown a lot and has gotten a lot better thanks to Wizz. ;)

i would like to see the cooling section separate from the overclocking section and divided into air/water/water chiller/phase, and so on. the only problem with this is i dont know if there are enough members in the community with "exotic" cooling to warrant this. i know im liquid cooled and there are a few other watercoolers around, and i also seen 1 person running a waterchiller, so.......
also like to be able to use an "avatar"

I'm watercooled myself and yeah, I'd like to see a separate cooling section for sure, but not divided in to air, air, water, tec, phase, more extreme cuz this board doesn't have the members to fill that up. Separate, divided into air and "exotic" (watercooling is still considered exotic...) that would be a good step-up.
And about having to be a member to download things... I can see the idea behind it, but huge member counts and low post rates look kinda awkward, you know what I mean... lol. People will just sign up to download but not unusually they will not stick around. I have had this account for quite some time already but until recently (I came back for the nVidia ATiTool (stays ironical, great stuff)) I didn't find it very impressive, some good steps were made while I was a "zero-poster". So now I'm here and this time I think you're gonna be stuck with me for a bit.

I would like to congratulate the administrators of this site, as well as the people who post regularly. This is my primary stop for hardware news and information, and I’ve never had a problem that someone here couldn’t help me with. Most people are helpful and friendly, and there are an amazingly small number of offensive posts (excluding the “guests” in the news forum). I always enjoy my time spent here. So to everyone one contributes to this site, even if it is only a small contribution, Thankyou!

Its not a post war, im just saying iv been over there long enough to notice their case modding section. But look at the galleries here (which EOCF doesnt have) My rig2 at EOCF is almost a joke, its been a full year and more now and they still dont have it going.
And why is everyopne bashing on me? take a look at this: http://www.techpowerup.com/gallery/
Then look at this: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39
TPU has a bunch of original never really seen before mods and styles, EOCF is just a bunch of case cutting and painting (with a few exceptions).
I dont see what your looking at but i do know what i am.
End of story, you guys have your opinions and i respect that, and i have mine.,

I concur, but don't block it, just link it to the email address. So that a person can come back under his name if he likes, but that nobody else takes the name and we misidentify him. That way you get rid of 1 download members and people that visit very irregularly will have to visit more regularly, so as not to lose their postcount and built up respect...
Edit: No avvies is good, keep it that way. EOCF does have them so I use one too, but it's only distracting if you ask me. The times I've seen someone crap a thread to ask about where he found the avvy image... hopeless.

Small avatars would be fine, but NO picture sigs! It really clutters everything and makes it impossible to read the posts one after the other with the distracting CS and other crap picture sigs. And you could just make it a rule that if you want to know where that person got his avatar or whatever ;) ,do it in the General Nonsense section or just don't do it at all. :p
EDIT: Oh, and I agree with the 2 month member deletion idea.

On my site the size of avatars is limited to 200 by 200 pixels and 30kb. It works well and is not too annoying, but it's a small site and it's easy to moderate objectionable or annoying content. I'm not sure how well avatars would work here, they have the possibility of becoming very annoying.
W1zzard
09-30-2005, 06:14 PM
i think avatars are a bad idea .. they add very little to the viewing experience and tend to create some problems .. especially for low bandwith users .. 20 users * 30kb per avatar = 600 kb download .. same with picture sigs .. for picture sigs bad links are also an issue
djbbenn
09-30-2005, 06:23 PM
They would look good, but there no real advantage to having them. They don't do anything, but take up bandwidth like W1zz said. What about user title names? Like you get a new one after so many posts or something? Doesn't really matter to me, but some user might like it.

Its different, but they are post counted. I'm not sure, but I believe its 5/25/50/100/250/500/1000 and so on. Why not make that 8/16/64/128/256/512/1024 lol, just an idea. But post counted isn't preferable eitherway. I mean... Someone could spam his ass off and to a newbie (on this board) still look like someone with a lot of status. Custom user titles aren't everything because people would just crap it, but a certain ranking would look better than stars in my opinion, but something that really compares to true value takes too much of the mods time, I know cuz EOCF had it and it was ditched 2 weeks after it was introduced because the mods got tired of rating good or bad posts.
BTW, what's the difference between "Staff" and "Moderator"
Edit: I've got one thing though, when you click an attached image it opens in the same window... It's when it is opened in a new window, in my opinion :)

I visited a couple of other forums before I "settled" here.

Yes this has been going on, and its very annoying. Especially when you try to go in and settle it or calm people down, and they come back at with a comments like "I own you". One thread started out very nice and informative, then it just turned into a fight. We have to remember that sometimes it's not hard to step on someone elses toes when trying to make a point... not to mention we have members from all around the world all trying to write in english, some real well and some not... words translate to different meanings from one language to another. I admire those speaking more than one language, well a little jealous too... but being faceless also encourages people to say things they normally would not say ... it's fine to disagree and even speak your mind but do it in a way you would want others to speak to you ... treat others as you wish to be treated ... nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree ... :toast:

It only takes one post where you personally attack a person for no good reason, and that person will often hold a grudge a long time. I hope I haven't steped on anyones toes to hard:( . I would feel bad. Unless they really deserved it:laugh: .

Thats why you just be nice even when they are being a ass hole to you. Just hold back your anger, and most of the time someone else would step in or a mod will. People will respect you for that, but if you just go back at them, it can end up making you look bad.
Sometimes I find, people misinterpret you, and thats when when it can look bad. You say something in a certain way, meaning no harm, just a saying or to have laugh, and someone is offened or misinterprets and come back at you. So you just got to stay calm and explain, or sometimes just give in.

Oh yes! I meant it in a literal sense too. I just stepped through their connection and BAM! Squashed their toes:laugh: .:p
Smilies are the best for when you have to say something, but don't want to be to harsh. Everything comes across better with lots of smilies.

That would pwn all if you do that... and stick your hand through the monitor and hit people. :slap:
I find that smiles do help too... :D
