Hey guys. I have an Opty 170 (yanked the H/S this weekend, and found I'm lucky enough to have one that's easy rated to 3ghz  ), that I was running with an Antec TruePower 380. It's been doing me great, but I just doubled up to an SLI for my 7900GS. So, I was getting concerned about power, especially since I'm wanting to put a little more stress on it with the O/C. Soooo... I caught a good deal on a TP Trio 650 at Newegg, and snagged it :pimp:.

Checked out the specs on their site, which looked pretty sharp, and when it showed up Friday (I paid $30 for the second day), I dismantled the box, and started reassembling...and it wouldn't post. :banghead::banghead: So. I've worked on computers for a long time, which means that I know that I can easily miss the stupid stuff. Checked the back for a power switch (110/220), and it's autosense. Checked the plugs, rechecked...pulled it out of the case, only hooked up the processor and the main board power. Fans, no post. Great, I've smoked my board.:mad: Yanked the RAM, to see if she screams, and it doesn't. Pulled the old P/S, hooked it up, and she beeps like an Atari. Great, so it's the P/S.

Call Newegg, RMA, and order a new one, to arrive Tues (last night). Get home, sure enough, box awaits. Tear it out, and THIS time, I'm smart. Just unplug everything, and hook up the main power, and the processor. Same Dance. :banghead::banghead: No post. Ok, fine. Break out the old Tbird, and see what it does with the new P/S. Comes up like a dream. So, the power supplies WORK, just not on my Opty box.

So, I'm looking at the P/S, and it shows me on my old one (the 380), I've got 35A for the +5v. The NEW 650, only supports 18A on the side, even tho the site lists it at...25A, I think...
So, the final question becomes, I'm running what you see in my sig/specs. I NEED a new P/S. And I need to get in around $100. I'm having problems finding minimum recommended amperage for the Opty 170. The power calculator was showing me too close to 350 to make me happy, so I want to push it up to 500 or more. So...Any thoughts? Thanks guys :)

Corsair are very good - got the HX520 myself and not had a single problem. I've read that they VX550 is better than the HX520 unless you specifically want a modular supply.

Excellent, thanks for the nfo guys. I actually picked up the Corsair 650tx, and love it. Still had the same problem when I got it home, but finally figured it out. apparently, my old Antec 380 compressed one of the pins on the MB on the 24-pin main connector. So, whenI connected any of the three brand new p/s's that I purchased, it wasn't making contact with that last pin. After about an hour fooling with it, I discovered that the connection wasn't correct, wiggled the new p/s 24-pin when I was installing it, and made contact. Everything works great, and now I've got a good Antec 650 for my file server (which had been griefing me due to the mass quantity of drives) and I'll RMA the other one, keeping the Corsair for my active box, and future expansion :) And a special thanks to erocker for the pm's regarding my questions :)
