Charging for services...

I need to know appoximately, a standard fee for swapping out an Intel processor with a different one. It would require removing the HSF and swapping the chip, that's it. Just a figure a normal PC buisness would charge. Thanks.:toast:

One of the most called services out there is the G**k Squad, they charge $159. per device to install/swap (you provide device). I've never used them, nor will I, but I'm sure there must be additional fees on top of that. You can read additional info here (http://www.geeksquad.com/services/detail.aspx?id=481).

here at my shop we would charge an hours worth of work

@ $65 an hour in shop & $95 an hour on site

I run a mobile PC repair service part time. I charge $40 per hour (undercutting the local shops). I generally charge 1 hour to swap out a processor. If they buy the cpu through me, I offer a 10% discount on the hourly rate.

That's not a bad deal at all for all the people that have never messed with computers before! Geeksquad is always way overpriced, and I still can't believe people pay those prices.

rule of thumb erocker if its a good friend don't gip them i like $35 hr if they bring it to you $55 hr at there house

I'm charging $100 bucks. The retailer where my friend bought the computer shorted him with his processor. I think he got a e2140 instead of a e4500 like he should of. So basically I'm charging the retailer the hundred dollars. For my friend it will cost nothing. Thanks for your help guys.:toast:

Going rates in Detroit, for local shops anyway, is 45/hr in-shop and 70/hr on-site plus travel expenses. That's with appointments. Double it for emergency work, which is where the real money is. My friend works for one of these places. He got an emergency call in the middle of the nite to install a 8600gt so this guy could play WoW. I think they charged him extra for being a tool, it rang to the tune of 500$ after 2 hours of work.
