Is it any good?

I ask because after getting a Seagate from Infrared (thank you very much) I plan to put my core files over to that one, and use my Samsung as a mass storage for all my music etc. And of course during this process I'll be formatting drives etc so is Open Office a good free replacement?

Open Office is good, but try google docs first. Both are equally in functionality, but google docs has a higher format support, and works anywhere where their is internet. Perhaps you can do google docs for online, and open office for offline.

I have tried google docs but didn't really like it. Instead what i do is save work as an attachment to emails, and then download them when i need them.

mmm It lacks those fancy templates but it have some nice set of features and as Linux have a great control over what you doing.But no paper clip n shit though :P

i love openoffice it has pretty basic(which is good enough imo) for microsoft documents...no fancy templates but im sure you can DL some and i love it because paperclip FTL!

open office is a nice replacement :) i like it.. and it comes built into many linuxes so yeah

Open Office is nice. Not great, just nice. It is somewhat slower when opening certain types of documents when compared to Office 2003 for example and it requires a bit more resources, RAM-wise. But other than that, I mean, it's free right?

I've been using openoffice the past 2 years. I've had no problems.

I use open office a lot, its a really good office alternative, doesn't have all the bells and whissles but still really good, especially coz its free :D

yeah it`s very amazing since it`s free

i just wish it could be more good looking, i mean more skinned

and i hate to install java for it, but it`s not big deal
