View Full Version : AMD Athlon barton 2600+ nearly dead?

Hi,Im using PC Wizard to see if I can overclock my processor,but u know what?
My CPU temperature is 201 C! is that normal if I havent overclocked?

Its really strange as I havent even touched it,is it time to buy a new processor,in case:Which one?

How close is your processor to your psu..my friend had that same problem he just opened up the side case and put a normal fan there lol maybe a bit lud but it worked...

its 1 or 2 cm from it,but my PSU isnt hot at all.
maybe need new case,mine is black,its like clothes that is black,they are really hot in the sun!

It has nothing to do with the case its the position of the cpu socket on the motherboard.

its just a bunk reading from a crappy onboard sensor. ignore it. It would however, be good to check it by feeling the side of the heatsink, and as long as that isnt hot, it is fine. ;)

Its misreading...the max temp before failure on them is 85C I believe. If it was 200, you would have a dead CPU.

thats true 201 C = 410 degrees Fahrenheit you could cook a pizza in there..seriously..lol

What'd be cool is if they made pins and all other pieces of processors, or coated them with, or had shells, made out of a really high-heat-tolerance material, so heating wouldn't be a factor. I mean 85C can burn you but it's not that bad. If you could do that, we could either have a new generation of CPU's about 5x as fast or be overclocking them about that high. That'd be awesome, I think that should be the way of the future, not new generations of technology that make them faster, but a simple physical technology that lets them run hotter, or even better, both.

Well why not just more powerful power supply's with more current flowing through the hardware to make up for lost flow through heat?
