Don't know if you guys realized, but it's advertised at the GDDR4 version as well...
If they give you the GDDR3 version, you might be able to bitch them out and get some $ back :P

If it's wrong, they will just inform you and refund you, pay by credit card then you can ensure you get your money back as credit card transactions are insured, if you get it, then I am in!

Its manu code is for a saphire toxic 3870, but everything else on the page says it's an X2, so it's obviously a mistake (listing it as an X2 that is, before I get jumped on), just interesting to see if they "honor" it :D

Go for it microdirect did the same when the x2 first came out they sold off all there msi overclocked edition X2 cheaper than the other brands at normal clock speeds when infact they should have gone for more.
End of the day though they will have still made a profit on the marked price.

Even tho it doesnt link to an x2, check carefully the x2 listed, its not 2x512mb ram, its 2x256.
It isnt a 1gb 3870x2, its a 512mb 3870x2
Not so fab for v high resolutions I would think, but great for anyone gaming on lower rez
One on left is the card linked, the right shows an actual 1gb 3870x2 on sale

I've ordered one to see how it works out, It most probably is a wrong listing, as there isn't any 2x256MB X2s and I doubt they would even make them really.

incorrect.
there is a 512mb x2 and a 1gb x2.
the 1gb = 512 *2
the 512 = 256 * 2
read the info in the description.
"supporting 512 or 1gb memory"
kylew
03-14-2008, 06:35 PM
That's just according to that site though, there isn't a 2x256 X2 anywhere else, it doesn't even say 2x256 anyway, it just says 2x256 for the memory interface. The "supporting 512MB or 1GB of RAM" to me says it's got "512MB OR 1GB of RAM depending on how you count it up, 512MB for each card or 1GB total. There's no evidence of a 2x256MB one existing from checking it out, it's just a wrong listing. I've got my "confirmation" of the order, just awaiting confirmation of dispatch.

just compare the two x2's i shown in the picture, one clearly states 1gb ram, the other 512. search google. a 512mb x2 does exist
similar price here:
http://www.morecomputers.com/extra.asp?pn=11122-09-50R
its deffo not 1gb. I had actually ordered one, but rang them up and cancelled once i noticed the discrepancy
it would be fine if i had a smaller monitor, but with my 1gb 2900xt, i aint gonna do a big step back with such a small amount of vid memory

I've already actually got an X2 now :) (powercolour one), looking at the sapphire's site now, they make no reference to any such X2. Linky (http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=209&grp=3). I think the fact that their product number relates to a 3870, that it's indeed a mistake, but I hope it slips through the net ;). I was either gonna crossfire it with my current X2, or sell it on for small profit since I don't have a 16x 16x motherboard at the moment.
Edit - The link you posted mandelore, it's pretty much the same, the part code for it belongs to a sapphire HD3870 Toxic - "11122-09-50R" that being the part number.

Kyle, did u actually try ringing them up and asking about the item?
I rang them up when i ordered mine and told them I wished to cancel due to it not being a 1gb card, but rather a 512mb. They accepted that and didnt question it?
Well, even if it did turn out to be just 512mb, coupled with your current X2 your system is gonna pwn :) :) :)

It's quite a bit faster than an 8800GT :), I already have one in my system and I can play everything bar crysis, maxed with aa and af @1920x1200. Best card I've had in years.

I did, I rang them up on Saturday morning to see if I would getting an X2 or a 3870 Toxic, they said it was an X2 but the person I spoke to didn't seem all that technical so I didn't ask about the RAM. If it turns out to have a total of 512MB I'll just return it under the DSRs.

1GB total one, I'm not convinced there is one that has a total RAM of 512MB. There's no sites that mention it as existing and sapphire's and AMD's site makes no mention of one. The manu-ref for the X2 on "dacomputers" is the reference number for a 3870 TOXIC

I would say that it means that the card has either 1GB total memory OR it has 512MB per GPU. Every shop that sells them has the same listing as that. Also, I can't see them selling a card such as a 3870X2 for £100 less that comes with half the ram, it kind of defeats the purpose of it being a high-end GPU. The reason I think this is because of the little difference in price between a 256MB and a 512MB 3850, it's literally like £10 difference if that.

I see what you're saying. if that is the case then it's very misleading.
I might order one and see what turns up. Like someone else said, I can always send it back because of DSRs.
You never know, they might accidently send me the 1Gb version...

I've just phoned ATi/AMD now, the guy on the phone said the sapphire version will be the same as the powercolor one (i currently have the powercolor one). He said there's nothing in the specs listed that says it's any different. Also, the confirmed to me that they will be sending me an X2, if I get an X2 that is 512MB total (which I highly doubt as there's no evidence to suggest one exists) I'll send it back under DSR due to the website advertising it to be a TOXIC card even if it isn't. I'll phone the shop now to see where my order currently is.
kylew
03-17-2008, 01:21 PM
Ok, I've phoned DA computers. It's definitely a mistaken listing as the guy on the phone told me that it's a sapphire X2 Toxic GDDR 4, which we know doesn't exist. He told me that they have an X2 coming in today that will be dispatched for me either today or tomorrow. I'm almost 100% sure that I'll get a normal (1GB) X2, or worst case a sapphire 3870 toxic which I can easily return.

Yeah, he mentioned that there was an issue with the listing but didn't go into detail about it, but he says I'm due an X2, also checked with the bank and they've said that my account has been charged with only £157 or so. I think you'll be best ordering from that other shop.

kylew, one of four things will happen.
1.) TPU members will end up with the most expensive 3870s in the market
2.) TPU members will pretend they wanted a 3870 anyways
3.) TPU members will flood the "Buy/Sell/Trade/Giveaway" section with unwanted 3870s
4.) All of the above :laugh:

Here's some info I got from D A computers:
Hi,
I am afraid i have to report that the graphic card you ordered is actually the standard version, and not the X2.
Unfortunately our suppliers have given us the wrong product information for this item, as they have to many other webstores.
I have therefore cancelled your order, and no money has been taken from your payment.
Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused, and i hope you will continue to use our webstore for any future purchases.

I've tried ordering a case from Eclipse with their website saying "normally in stock" so I assumed it was in stock, after a few days of it not arriving I phoned them up to check and he said they weren't even in stock!
Then I browsed their site only to find that every single item on there is stated as "normally in stock". VERY misleading and annoying!
