Before I order it I check to see if it would work with my mobo.
Concensus was that it works better with Vista than XP with the 2406 BIOS.
Should be fun fiddling around with it for awhile until I get a new mobo.
You may see a QX6700 for sale soon in the FS section :D

Well i'm not sure what I expected but it is certainly worth the money. Thx for those kind words  :wtf: Only three left some people seem to agree with me.
He man i did not mean to step on your toes. But you said this was the best cpu purchase you ever made. I also assume this is the highest priced cpu you bought. So the performance for this cpu comes with a high price tag. Not saying that the price of the one u showed isn't good.;)
As a matter of fact I envy u for having it.:)

Agree completely here. The price is good for what it is, and I'm jealous. However, I don't think I will pay triple what I typically pay for one cpu. It's a great cpu, but $500 more for 400mhz more (in my case) seems like diminishing returns. I am looking forward to seeing how high you can OC it, Tom. :D

Paul I'm telling you this CPU is worth it, really it is, and for 500.00 after you sold your chip thats a great price. The unlocked mutipliers really make this chip zoom. The only thing that will beat it is the new stepping version of the Qx9650 and it's gonna end up costing 1600.00 watch and see it will be like the Q6600 B3 / GO. The Q9550 might come close but with the unlocked mutipliers you can almost alway max your ram speed, you can't with a 8.5 x multiplier and its 400mghz x4 cpus and 4 mbs of on chip memory. Thats gonna be about 30 percent increase.

well the Q9550 is gonna come close thats why they re did the Qx9650. I bet that chip hits 470 to 500 FSB . I bet the new qx9650 hits 4.4ghz on stock voltage and will do near 5.0ghz on air. I say this because my chip will do everything Gaming , burn dvds etc, except prime at 4.4ghz at 1.48v, all the Qx9650 needs is a slight binning tweak and look out AMD. The new Qx9650 is cost crazy jack for sure and is supposed to come out next month.

Qx9770 is going to be super expensive I would say get a QX9650 or Q9550 Intels suggested price has been listed as 1400.00 to 1700.00 so you know it gonna be 2000.00

That's what I was thinking, then Trt had to post this thread. :p
Not sure if the 9770 will work in my "old" 975 mobo.
I figure I can always get a 9770 if it really rocks and sell the 9650 without too much of a hit, since the price was decent.
The cost is not all that big of a concern, my computer "account" has about $3K in it at the moment. I just don't want my hardware addiction to cause me to react too quickly.
I still want to get a new x48 mobo, RAM, and a pair of 3870x2s ... unless something better comes along before I get around to it.

I think after the new stepping Qx9650 comes out the new stepping will jump up like crazy in price like the G0 Q6600 did watch and see. Then these chips will be in big time demand if you want to sell them because of their cheaper price if you can believe that, (not that 800.00 is cheap) but half the price of a Qx9770

NewEgg still has the QX6700 for $985. I paid $999 when I built my system.
The prices on the Extremes seem to hold pretty well.
I will probably try to sell mine for $400 - $500, which I think is a pretty good deal.

with fan on at 2500 rpms or 90 percent load 65c ish idle 31c ish During game play never breaks 45c. I like this cooler and some reviews say it's as good as a TRUE but I had a TRUE and don't believe it is. Still it is on the level of a scythe infinity. I'm thinking of removing my side fan (as cool as it is) and getting as TRUE. I think it would keep this chip in the 55c range.

That was my first thought(AMD has my system bugged). BUT the dark side is strong, so I contacted the seller just a sec. long ago.
