Im getting bored of videogames as a whole it seems all anyone is willing to make anymore is FPS games and sports games (with the occasional rts)
Whatever happened to producing something new and exciting, I think publisher/developers like EA have ruined the market for gamers.
It all started with Command and Conquer Generals for me, I bought this game not having EVER played it before (The first and last time) because I loved C&C so much, I trusted the brand. I brought it home, booted it up and started on the campaign. It was pretty fun for a few days of light play, and I started to notice things like the total lack of a storyline, and the dissapearance of the live action cut scenes that were synonymous with C&C. I then tried the online mode, and was severely dissapointed by the lack of options compared to even Red Alert 2, a older game in the true C&C series. Not to mention the incredible lag, the net code was worst than Red Alert 2  Westwood didnt even make this game! EA dismantled Westwood after buying them and had EA south (LA studios) make this game.
My second experience was with Halo PC. By the time halo pc came out, I (and all my friends) were addicted to halo on xbox. I didnt have a gaming PC, it was a rather new 2500 with a 9200SE (My first pc build :) ) So when Halo PC came out, I immediately bought it and soon upgraded my PC with a 9550 video card (which lead me to these forums and got me into overclocking)
Halo PC frustrates me beyond everything-
-Delay time; You have to shoot in front of a moving person to kill them (distance depends on ping)
-Takes a beast to run: My 6800 struggles at times with the game still, horrible port
-There are many smaller glitches involving the netcode which causes huge problems: Shoot a rocket at a incoming warthog and the warthog will start to flip, then you will die and then see the warthog drive over your dead body. This pissed me off.
My third experience was with Halo 2:
-The ending left me feeling ready to kill everyone at Bungie and Microsoft
-No pistol (They even powered down the crappy magnum in recent patches!!)
-No server browser/custom games (this drove the nail into the coffin for me)
-Getting a kill with a sniper rifle earns you a "sniping" medal with a headshot decal (any kill with a sniper will do)
-Majority of xbox live players are assholes or hackers
-Campaign sucked
-New weapons suck and are powered down
-There is no aiming involved, just run up and spray, the reticle is the size of another player
I still have my xbox live subscription but havent used it since I smashed my halo 2 disc.
BF2 dissapoints me, but is a solid game compared to these 3 tragedys. But from the looks of it, nothing is going to get much better. The recent Call Of Duty 2 demo sucks gameplay and graphics-wise, and the AOE3 demo just showed how tired the traditional RTS model is getting.
Im going to get out of gaming within the next 6 months unless something epic happens.

AOE3 dude... Its the same old formula with prettier graphics.
C&C Generals is sacreligious to any self respecting RTS gamer.

My friends make fun of me for it, but I still play the original C&C and Red Alert from time to time. One of them doesn't get it at all, I tell him C&C is a classic and he responds, "Why? It's just like every other RTS game that came out then." He fails to realize every RTS that came out back then is like C&C.
There is nothing coming out soon that I'm looking for to either, just more FPS...... I start to think I'm outgrowing video games, but then I go and play one of my "classic" games and I realize how much more fun they are than a lot of my newer ones. Anyone Remember Tie Fighter? I would like to see a really good space simulator again. Anyway, I'm rambling so I'll stop.

I remember playing tie fighter when I was about 6 on my dads windows 3.1 comp :)
Yeah, I installed starcraft a few days ago for the first time in years, and the amount of detail put into that game easily surpasses any other RTS. I only really play Starcraft and Counter Strike source anymore, I think I just need to find other things to do :o
Im going to install Red Alert 2/Yuris Revenge this weekend :)
Yeah, Starcraft is my most favourite game ever! I've never stopped playing it since I bought it in 1999(?). They should just provide a patch so as to run it in 1024x768 and then it'd be the best game atm as well! ;) And Red Alert 2 wasn't that great a game for me. C&C kinda ran dry for me following Tiberian Sun. And don't even mention Renegade. But yeah, all the new FPS games are essentialy the same and most don't have a decent storyline. And the RTS games are just boring. I've been playing Guild Wars though, which to me is a remarkably good game.

almost all c&c's games were great but about generals u said somtin odd
"total lack of a storyline, and the dissapearance of the live action cut scenes that were synonymous with C&C. I then tried the online mode, and was severely dissapointed by the lack of options compared to even Red Alert 2"
why u didn't use; plug-ins - mods - patchs- although with-out them i play that game about 1 year & truly enjoy it....(with 6 brutal army it takes almost a day to win )
about shooting games - action kind - they are all good imo . but i never find sense to play any of 'em to their ends -imean why i must play doom again or ut or even ct
when there are hl or farcry
also kill switch wasn't bad though or igi 1
bf2 -css- & etc. specially bf2 was "no good"!
before this i just thought ask here for games .
to introduce it to me. but now it seems we all have same prob.;)
about halo ithink it was sick ... all i'm doin in that was spinin :)....
btw try some old games instead.
or go for rpg genre . i play-ed ffviii about a month ago after 5 years again
good rpg always been my passion ...:) & japanes ones, wow they are great almost all of 'em.
ff series - grandia - bof(breath of fire) - lol(legend of legia )- cc (chrono t ,c) ....
about adv after longest journey or some old lucas games till now i never saw any even "good " one .
some game like beyond good & evil , sude , & some few others there were good too.

I have to agree with you guys about StarCraft. It was just a very nice well made game. :D Some of the older games now, seem to be better than the newer ones. BF2 is good, but it could have a lot more work done on it. Act of War has been one of my fravorite games latly. Just a good game were they went into so much detail. It shows you that they make a game to have a good game, not just for the money. EA has seem to be getting lazy on their games latly.

I still play red alert too.. its friggin awesome when you get someone tossing out a p100 32mb ram laptop, and whip out c&c... fun anywhere!!!!! :D
AOE3 dude... Its the same old formula with prettier graphics.
C&C Generals is sacreligious to any self respecting RTS gamer.
I still time to time play AOE II... same formula works.. and it works well..
I dunno about renegade, but I loved generals, aside from the extremely obvious imbalances, and lack of $$... which is what kills the game.. otherwise, i think it was pretty good.
USA is so balanced unfairly its not even funny.. just build up a massive defense, once you do that, get a few supply depots to bring in cash 24/7, and while defensding you get your stars, youll get the bomb, and paratroops...
no way that strat can lose, unless they beat down you defense fast enough... :) Just wait forever, and the opponent will eventually run out of cash... unless they're america too... :p

Ive played C&C tiberian sun and loved that. Neva had original C&C. Not played generals cos it aint really my sort of game.
Nor BF2, COD, Halo, Halo 2. I suck at them all.
Play some UT2004 from time to time and lil bit of original UT evry now and then.
Worms 2 anyone? One of the greatest multiplayer games of all time. Not forgetting the original worms united.
My days are customarily sent played footbal games. went from actua soccer club edition to fifa 2000. then through the fifa series up to 2003 before the conversion to pro evo soccer 3 when it was finally released on the PC. now through 4 and planning to buy 5 when it comes out.
Star wars jedi acadamy is a current fave o mine.
I do like goin back to some classics every now and then. carmageddon tdr2000 is loads fun and original gta evry now and then cant b beat for sheer poor graphic, top down carnage fun.
play many other games randomly. Top Spin, Flatout, Total Immersion racing, GTA San Andreas.
Plenty o choice in my collection.
1 last thing has anyone played jetfighter 2015 properly. ive had my 60 mins trial but due to being in the UK i can't activate the download. wanna c if its worth me buying one stateside and getting it imported. Cheers :D

Have you ever played China or GLA in generals?? Black Markets (GLA) and Hackers (China) do exactly the same thing as the supply depots for USA. Actually, I find that USA is far too weak vs. GLA because I can beat 3 hard USA alone and I don't even like the game! lol. It just takes a bit of getting used to. It is fun to rush any enemy with commanchies to win in under 2min though! :D

The patches dont fix the total lack of a story line and live action cut scenes, and the patches also dont fix many of the games problems. EA dropped support for the game.
I didnt try many mods, most were crappy and shared the same flaws as generals. Not worth the hassle when I can go play a polished older game like Starcraft or the new RTS Act of War (great game)

It has awesome detail...I love it. Like when planes drop bombs, you can see every littel detail and the effects are great. And tanks have serial numbers and all.
