Sounds beastly. Sif $3000...

With that kind of money I would aim for something better than a 8800gtx, like something 98xx in SLI. You can do a lot with the budget you have especially if you are going to build it yourself.

Why waste money on server edition... just dual boot XP and Vista...
And also, the 7200.11 is a waste of money. Its nowhere near as fast as the previous model, nor a raptor.

Server 2008 supports DirectX 10. I'm also running Vista and Server 2008 side by side and Server 2008 boots up in half the time. It also suffers no slowdowns in 3dmark 06 and Crysis compared to Vista.

The 7200.11 also costs nearly the same as a similarly-sized 7200.10.

Id' go for a DDR2 \ DDR3 compatible mobo and get 8GB of DDR2 ram my self. Games like Stalker can take like 3.8GB no problem these days. The benefit in going to DDR3 is low game wise.

I'd all so think about waiting till the R700 was out but thats more of a personal option. I'd probaly in vest in a larger PSU like the one i use with a good UPS if you don't have one all ready. Other wise 2 x2 3870's as some else said.

Throw in a 20-22" at least LCD too.

As for a case i like some cube cases all ways wanted one but out of my reach :(.

Maybe you could get MKmods top mod the crap ot of one of these for ya :) :).

Sound setup Umm maybe try the onboard sound and hook up a SONY \ ONKYO surround sound setup for about $200-$250.

Don't waste that much money on server

With a system that's got that much power, 17% probably won't matter for a while and it would be cheaper to upgrade to new graphics cards in a year or so once two 3870 X2s can't max everything than to buy Windows Server.
