i have the abit at8-32x 5RD80 board. it works great when i OC the CPU, but then i really have to underclock the ram. its ddr400 ram and id like to upgrade the ram so i can OC it. possible ?

Ballistix Tracers @ Pc4000 is your best bet anymore. They used to have a lot of TCCD and TCCC stix , but those are hard to find. I had a set that would easily break 300MHz , topped at IIRC 315MHz. I believe it to be BH-5 IC's
Hit Ballistix Tracer Pc4000 on ebay,I dont believe Crucial is still producing it!

so you were able to OC your CPU and that ram ??

opty 170 at 3.0GHz 1:1 you mean...yes sir
the ram boots at 250MHz stock, so you can get to 2.5GHz just starting the ram to boot at 200MHz instead. Then it is just a matter of cooling, these stix will do what you ask, but you must be willing to supply the volts and keep it cooled.
Ran my set for over a year , got them used 3-3-3-9 1:1 300MHz 3.0V possibly(?)
Edit: Here is a link to what i set at a 180Mhz ram divider, so i could make my run with stability to 3.15GHz. just an example that showed alot of info is all really!

Also not to short change you there was PC5000 as well, but that is super hard to find, and forget RMa's as they dont have replacements.

With my gskill, I was cruising at 333 Mhz. Dont know how I did it and it was stable though. Of course, I got them off newegg, red heat spreaders. However, I could never get my opty 165 to 3.0ghz. I did get a 1ghz bump though from 1.8 to 2.8.

so the board supports ddr400 (pc3200) but i can buy faster ddr ram and essentially slow it down so that i can speed up my CPU. that way my cpu runs faster and i dont have to sacrifice ram speed like i do now with the ddr 400.

now that i see the price of ddr 500 i think ill just hold off haha. my system would be better served adding 2 more gigs of ddr 400 to it even if its underclocked by half.

they all had a PC3200 SPD that would boot them there, then you could(if mobo allows) OC just the ram, or leave it booted to 200MHz and just see where she stops. Thats what I did.
But yeah look at OCZ's site for their EOL ram , they made some really specialized ram in the DDR days. IIrc they were the ones who had either 275 or 300MHz DDR.
Esentially no need to boot less than the 200 divider , until 3.0GHz-ish range!
And I completely agree on the pricing , but you were asking for the fastest!!!!!...In DDR this comes at a premium.

yea i know! thanks for the info. now that i know what i know i think ill just buy another 2 gigs of ddr 400 and that should be enough to speed things up !

The real question to ask yourself before you buy extra ram is this.
Are you trying to get better scores with your hardware, or possibly game a few FPS higher?
Do you use a lot of memory intensive apps all at the same time that you are overloading the 2GB you have.
If it is the first, then the 2GB addition will do nothing to help, if it is because you are starved for ram, and Vista does do that to ya, I say go ahead.

well...i am running vista home premium 64bit. i do believe that my ram has been slowing things down during games.
