Okay. I was looking at just getting another 2gb of what I have got to take me to 4gb, cus I'm a bit tight on cash atm. But with the prices of 800Mhz ram I thought I would look into it. Now I still want 4gb of ram. But I have been thinking. I have a load of computer bits here which I could sell, thus paying for some new ram.

First question (and please don't shoot me down, i'm a bit of a noob when it comes to brands)
What is GeIL ram like??

I have been looking and found that for £56 I can get 4x1gb of GeIL PC6400 800MHz CAS 4-4-4-12

Whereas a 2x2gb kit of 4-4-4-12 800Mhz ram is about £75!

I'm assuming there is no benefit in paying £20 more for the 2x2gb right?

Cheers.

More density is all for the price. I like my 2x2gb set, but 4x1gb is perfectly fine. As far as Geil, apparently folks are raving about the EVO ONE series. Back in the DDR days, they made some awesome ram and I used them then. As far as now, Im not really sure, but Ive seen alot of their ICs are Elpida and Promos. GSkill was my last set of DDR and it clocked like a beast. Now Im using Wintec AmpX 4gb (2x2gb) that has micron D9s. However, I think the Geils are pretty solid now so it couldnt hurt to use them.

Just read a review on them and they do 900Mhz 4-4-4-12 on a 975x chpset!!! Just what I wanted cus I want to get my cpu to 3.2Ghz, which I cant with this ram. I'm assuming that even though the ram is higher speed, cus it is stock speed, nothing needs to be done to chipset voltages, right??

Cheers.

geil ram has been working fine for me for the past 4 months. no probs and OC's a bit too. i have the pc-6400 CAS 5 kit. Reliably do the job, and personally, im not arsed abt the d9 malarky

Are geil as good as corsair. Or for the money/performance, it doesnt really matter??

Cheers.

i think that value geil are far better than value corsair, but i presume that they are almost the same in the mid-range

Geil RAM is very comparable to most other high end brands. Some good sticks, some not so good. The Evo One series are excellent though, the clock quite well and stay very cool.

I'm looking at the Ultra Series. They okay??
Also, would getting having 4gb @ 900Mhz 4-4-4-12, provide quite a preformance increase over 2gb @ 680Mhz 4-4-4-12. What does it improve other than loading times?? I have heard people say that it helps anti-aliasing performance. I thought that was solely down to the GFX card?

Cheers.

I've had a set of GeiL ram running in my P5N-E for about a year now. They are great little beasts. They run at the stock 800MHz, but I tightened the timing sto 4-4-4-12 vs. the standard 5-5-5-15 they were supposed to be running.

I have been using this kit.....
:rockout:GEIL GX22GB8000DC DDR2 PC2-8000 1000MHZ CL5 2GB (4X1GB) DUAL CHANNEL KIT :rockout:
for about 6 months, with the asus max formula mobo, and I had no problems up to now...

they are decent OCers, however there are better OCing kits out there.
they can handle 1.8-2.2volts with no problems, no crashes, no bsod....
If you can get the new cl4 2x2 kit, get it... This way when you decide to operate vista 64, and new ¨mem hungry¨ games come out, you can upgrade to 8gb of ram..

check my rig to see specs at the moment....

Thanks but tbh, if I ever upgrade more than 4gb, I will prob have a new mobo that can take faster than 800Mhz so. Thanks for the input, good to know Geil's are quite good.

Cool well, Im onyl looking for it to go to 900Mhz, and according to alot of reviews this ram will do 900Mhz 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v, so perfect for me. :D

Yeah I use GeIL in all my builds (well I have done so far) as they're value RAM is fantastic for it's price. My original 1GB (2 x 512MB) PC3200 managed to OC to 250 which was completely stable.

I've also used GeIL for client builds as well, the only exception was my last one which was Corsair as it was on a not to be missed offer.

If you're willing to go GeIL, I highly recommend their value range.

I recently sold a 2x2gb Geil Evo one (1066mhz) kit. It did 1260Mhz on stock timings and within the warrentied voltages. nice sticks, not micron, but decent overclocking Elipida chips

As I only need 2GB for now, I'm going for some OCZ Flex XLC sticks, at CL3 timings and with water-cooling built into the heatspreader...
However, I've heard nothing but good about GeIL overall, but as people have said, luck of the draw as to whether your sticks are good or if they're great.
