Well guys, I got my crossfire setup working just fine.. stock. Using just one card, the other card, or both, it just won't let me overclock worth a dang! The cards are HIS HD3870 IceQ non-tubo editions. I'm using Rivatuner to adjust the fan speeds which works fine, but there is just no headroom to overclock. Temps are great, etc. Is HIS's bios limiting me? Something else? Should I use the drivers on the HIS website? This is very confusing to me! The configuration of resistor R636/R639 are both horizontal, so it should support (limited) software voltage changes as W1zzard indicated in his thread. Anyone have a similar experience, or just some good ol' help and know-how would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!:)

So is there some sort of an OC fix bios? Anyone? Oh, time for bed.

I have that problem with CCC, very small head room. And rivatuner only detects the 2D clocks on my second card.
Have you tried AMD GPU Clock tool?
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/536/AMD_GPU_Clock_Tool_v0.7.html
When i hit "set clock" it tell me it failed, but when it does in fact set the clocks
Anyway, it works for me. Worth a shot. If that not the cause, then i guess its possible its the bios causing it :(

Nope, it says no valid devices found. I have a feeling that I'm not getting enough voltage when I OC, hence why I need a unlocked or fixed bios.;)

Thats odd, i flashed my sapphire card to "v010.071" bios (unlocked for 860+ on core), but i'm not sure if this bios would work with the HIS card, if its even bios related.. :(
Does it top out at ~860mhz core? if it does then it might need the unlocked bios like i used.
none the less, i tried :toast: :(

hey erocker, let me know how it works out with that!! I just got my rig done and the crossfire working! 20303 3dmark06!!!!
Before I hooked up the xfire I ran both cards on their own and they both overclocked 875 or higher. Now Im stuck at 837 :(
If you figure out any software volt mods, please let me know!!

you do not need a unlocked bios, you just have to jump past the 860-870 area, there is a bug with the cards at those clocks, if you jump right past that it will work fine. Thats how I do it on mine!!

Cool, that could work
When they first started coming out, they used the ".067.." bios, and it was locked at 864mhz i think. And it was impossible to go above that..

Pretty much anything over stock it F's up while running 3dmark06. So you're saying I should go from 780 (stock) to somewhere past 860? What about the memroy??

Alright, well I'm going to bed confused and perplexed. I hope someone can help me with this.:(

well no, only go that high if it wont pass the 855-870 area. I run my mem at 1330 now. My first 3870 I had I could run the memory at 1424. I really miss that one, I could run 901/1424 all day. These new sapphire cards max around 875/1330. But thats not bad I guesss

Well wtf, both cards do the same damn thing? I need to find a different bios I think. I'm going to do a complete XP reinstall tomorrow to see if anything helps, but this sucks. Good night.

good night! I have had to reinstall windows 4 times getting these cards working right. Its been pretty annoying but they work!

well go to the video bios library and download the turbo bios then download the newest atiwinflash (both on this site) and flash the turbo bios on both cards (you can change the cards to flash right on winflash do both then restart) That what I did to both my his ice q's and they will both do 880/1300

I'm running this turbo bios on my Iceq3 non-turbo card, works really well, havent had a chance to OC yet, but it is more stable at bios clock speeds than the same speeds on the old bios on CCC. Fan works really well, spins right down keeps gpu at about 40*C idle, then ramps up nicely under load and I've never seen it got over 60*C, even after 3dmark, and GPU-z was reporting fan speeds of 90%. Perfect!!! Just make sure you can run at those clock speeds, even if a bit unstable first.

Good luck!

It kind of worked, except instead of 850 the clocks are now stock at 837? I have yet to install catalyst control center as I'm just using the display driver. Are you sure that was the correct bios?
*The 837 clock reading may be a GPU-Z thing, I installed CCC and it says 850. I'll install rivatuner to make sure.

Nope, it only goes up to 837 when running a 3d app not 850. Anyone know what is happening here? Should I try a different bios?

Its completly normal. It is supposed to run at that speed. Bit of a con really for the turbo series. If it is set at 851, then it clocks at 850. Something to do with clock dividers or something. I found editing the bios made the card unstable. Use the untouched turbo bios but then use riva/atitool to push it further if you want to.

I have achieved 877 core so far 3d06 stable! That 837 thing must be that bios "hole" that asb mentioned. I am a happy man! Now to get back to overclocking the rest of my system, then doing this to my other card and getting my max 3d06 xfire score! Thanks for your help!:toast:

Let me know how you did on Xfire. I want to get 2 3870's in Xfire with the turbo bioses, just gotta wait for the money to come in! lol.

It looks like 900/1300 isn't a problem either! Now on to the next card...

good for you erocker, just read through all of that and I'm glad to see the new BIOS is working, how funny is that though?!
:slap: to HIS for not giving them a good BIOS at stock

So I guess I need to try the turbo bios then. Should have the fanfix with it. Hopefully I wont get an SSID error though.

It fixed my fan, on stock bios, it never went above 33%, on this bios, it ramps up nicely, keeps it around 60*C under full load at default turbo clocks.

so, if a card is able to be software volt-modded, will/can flashing to a new bios effect the voltage? I'm wanting to flash my BIOS to a HIS Turbo. My memory doesnt OC well at all and I'd like to test it with higher voltage. Is there a program that shows GPU voltage?

I dont think there is anyway of checking and I'm pretty sure this bios doesnt change the voltages.
Only way of checking is using a multimeter, I know it can be done but I have no idea how to, lol!
You'll have to wait for someone else to give you the heads up.
