Hey all I have been having trouble keeping my computer stable above 3.2 GHz. From what i have heard and known at 680i Lt wasn't really designed to over clock quads, especially over 3.2GHZ, or 1425QDR.
Anyone have any experance's with 780i's from eVGA in particular. well, I'm just curious to see how the 780i stacks up against the 680i lt.
I was thinking of replacing it because i can give my 680i lt to my friend sal, who's building his first computer, and is going for a E6850, cpu.
Will a 680i Lt over clock a CoreDuo, E6850 well?
I think thats allot to ask but I'm considering it as, well 3.2GHz stable for my cpu just isn't the same as 3.5 was.

my buddy got the 780 evga board. He pretty much used the step up program right away to move up to the 790 evga board.
why not just go for the gusto and get that one?
I'm sure the 680 will do ok with the 6850.

I thought the 790i was ddr3 only.

it is ddr3 tho, anyways, after some research the 780i chipset doesn't seem as stable as once though. Im thinking now on a 680i a1/t1 revision of the board, preferably the a1. I was surfing at the evga forums, and found that the 780i is crap, and that the 680i a1 over clocks quads alot better than my lt board. Wish i knew that earlier.
SO does anyone have any 680i a1/t1 series board that could give some advie on how stable there boards run?

My buddy has his q6600 at 3.7gig stable on his 780i.

what kind of cooling does he have, and what are his voltages? gfx set up? im courious now.

Upgrade to an X38 motherboard. Much better and more stable.

I would, but im planning on going SLI soon, with a second 8800GT ko edition. I don't think you can sli with x38 chipsets. Correct me if im wrong.

no, no sli on intel chipsets.
Yah, the 790 is ddr3 only. He hasn't gotten his new board from evga yet. He's cringing at ram prices as we speak lol.

No, but SLI offers very little performance increase for the price and with options like the Radeon 3870 X2 and the GeForce 9800 GX2 you do not really need an SLI chipset. Any motherboard with a single X16 PCIe slot will do. :D

I see your point, but im not really wanting to drop 600 bucks for a 9800 card, when it has very little gains over a 8800 series card.

what is the performance gain of having 2 8800 gt ko edeitions running overclocked, bus clocks are overclocked as well.
stock 675/975/1674, vs the ock speed of 745/1025/1850.
I would this if your gfx cards were overclocked, and your bus sppeds were from 100 to 105ish that it would inscrease the speed of the cards and thus increase your gain, correct my though pattern if im wrong.

i think that was only for the 9xxx series cards.

I have a 780i myself, got to SLI 8800GS.. worked great was able to hit 4.4Ghz with my E8400 great OCer but IMHO your single 8800GT will be well enough to handle most games. not to mention by a 780i board ATM wouldnt do you well, because Nvidia is on the verge of releasing newer motherboards with integrated graphics and Hyrbid SLI

true, but i heard that the next generation of mobos, starting with he 790 series will be ddr3 ram, not ddr2. And im not so sure about jumping the ddr2 bridge yet.
I though about bumping partially because my friend sal is buildng a computer and my 680i LT board doesn't seem to stay stable at anything above 3.2GHz or 1425 QDR.

I got my self a XFX 680i LT mobo with DDR2 6400 Ram and an Intel E6850 Oc at 3.5 Ghz I think that's about 1555QDR at 1.35v ... seems to be running fine..anways I just DID SLI and it sucked so.. only works great on Super High res....

Hey Pepsi71ocean, I would go for the EVGA 680iA1... I've got mine with q6600 @ 3.6Ghz since we last talked on EVGA forum. Also about that video card... You know my thoughts, go for the 8800GTS 512. I now have a 3DMark06 score of 16458 (Not too shabby for single card single GPU)
here is a link to validate that score http://service.futuremark.com/resultComparison.action?compareResultId=6272628&compareResultType=14 :)
EDIT: Also that 790i board has come up with a flaw. http://www.techpowerup.com/58065/NVI... Chipset.html

Sup PepsiOcean, I just brought a EVGA 750i (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188026) and I believe that it is the best bang for the buck right now, im using a E8400 on it, but I saw on reviews that it overclocks Quadcores very very nice, you should check it out if youre not interested on 3 Way-SLi, also it supports 1066MHz DDR2 RAM.

Good reason not to own a nVIDIA chipset...ever.

What poor product quality.
