STARS vs TPU LOGOS

Which do you perfer (they show post count, right now if you have 500 posts you get 6 TPU logos above your name but if you have 1k posts you have 7 stars)

The logos are nice to look at, but I personally like the stars, as they are more, "put lots of me together to look cool." The logos are not that way. They don't fit. Only simple shapes can be repeated. Conceptually, the logos fail. If we do a change, I think we should change to bars.

It is just a visual method for people to use to see if the poster is an active participant. That coupled with the thanks (which is no sure fire method either) helps to lend some credibility to a poster's thread creation or responses.

There is never going to be an infallible way of eliminating post/thanks whoring, but in this forum I would say that the post counts and stars/logos are a pretty good indication of those who are honestly willing to help.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, your right on that! I'm just a person that just really don't see points in the star and logo thing. Showing your posts is enough for me. Thank you's are good to. I mean, I can tell from Wile E that he has went through a lot of hardware and knows what he knows... From the posting, the time he's been here, and the amount of thanks he's been giving. I see where your getting at and I'm for it all.. Just letting everyone know how I feel for it.. Why not have a different system for each level? But, we've been down that road and its all trial and error. It's something that takes time.

Thats the same way I feel.. At first I thought it was cool. But, after awhile and seeing it just blah... I'm one that don't see the need for them... Posts and Thanks are what make the person know who you are...

It may be more useful if you instead of the stars you could put what you feel that you are most proficient at. I know that there are many of us who are good at a lot of things, but I guess you would list have to pick your favorite.

I am still for generic titles to depict post count up until the 5000th post where you get the custom title, I think titles seems just a bit more personal and if chosen correctly for each level can better depict how long you have been here and how much you have contributed, something along the Xtreme systems model but with out own unique level terminology, starting with maybe "apprentice".......

it just a universal symbol for the power button color is not really that important blue would look nice though...i like the logos because they are unique to this forum

Each level is a seperate graphic. So 2 stars and 3 stars are just a different jpeg (or whatever). If there were a variety of symbols, W1zz would have to create and maintain them all (8 for each symbol type). I don't think that is going to happen in our life time.

I love the TPU logos as well.
I don't know why some say that they have to be blue or some other colour to go with the background of the site, I mean the stars are yellow and no one ever said they don't go well with the background of the site.
Red TPU buttons are perfect, because the red power button is the logo of the site. Also red looks like something really powered up. Blue is more like switched off...
