I'm planning on upgrading my pc next month and have to say i have been won over by the performance of intels chips over amd.

So im gonna ditch the Athlon x2 and go for a core 2 duo. Now i have laid out below what i think will be a good upgrade, but wanna make sure the stuff is good for overclocking. I am pretty sure i have things right, and ive read lots of reviews to make sure. But if i'd asked for advice i would have gone for intel from the get go!

First up, new case, I managed to punch thru the window on mine in rage!

Coolermaster Stacker 831 Special Edition with Silver Mesh - No PSU (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140070)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 1333FSB Socket 775 4MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130484)

Motherboard: XFX 680I LT edition SLI Socket 775 Nvidia 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/126437)

Memory: OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC with LIFETIME WARRANTY (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755)

Now i think the above components mixed with my existing PSU, graphics and HDD's will be ok. However i will plan to upgrade the graphics card a month later due to finiancial commitments,

The parts above are also nearing the top end of my budget. Anymore and the mrs will kill me!

Please let me know if u think this will be a worthwhile upgrade!

Thanks in advance!

It would be an improvement, but not enough to warrant the money if you ask me.

Do you not think it would kick the arse of my current system?

Well, it would be faster no doubt. But that x2 you have ain't bad at all, and unless your doing a lot of benching the difference would be minor. Go for a new vc this time, 9600gt perhaps, then further down the road upgrade to intel (like when nahalem hits, prices go down, and you can get a quad).

at this point a cheaper/more effective upgrade would be a 790FX mobo and a 3850 512mb

maybe something like this

jetway 790FX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153097)
---or---
DFI 790FX (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136044)

powercolor HD3850 512MB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131075)

I would also consider the Geil memory sticks for the intel cpu's over OSZ don't know what anyone else thinks

nix the case and get an E8400/E8500 and OC to 4+ GHz... now THAT would be an upgrade...

although that is a sweet case.

Definitly nothing wrong with the case as I have it's brother and would recommend this case to anyone.

i love the case, I have a Coolermaster in the mail atm, great design and look... plus that case is a monster.

Im just saying that it *might* be better to hold off on the case and REALLY upgrade the CPU and mobo... function first, then form...

But it really is a matter of preference, I assume that's why the case is there in the first place.

Very good case choice but i think as already stated use the GEIl ram as it is optimized to run with Intel CPU's..

You would see a performance increase in loading times aswell as CPU intensive programs like World in Conflict or anything with loadz of explosions and physics..

The E6750 is a very good CPU, overclocks to 3.4 on air easy.

I also agree with the motherboard upgrade the 790FX models have quite a performance increase..

Just my 2 cents :)

I'd spend an extra £20 and get an E8400, if you can find any for sale that is.

Scratch the case and the ram. Then look around for a better 680i + e8190-8400 OR 680i+e4700+ a second 8600GTS for SLi.
