Guides and Tutorials

I was just pondering the idea of putting the guides and tutorials for each section under a sub-heading (like ATI and Nvidia are under graphics cards) called, oddly enough, "Guides and Tutorials".

That way they would be in a easily found place and not just stickies at the front of the section.

I also think it may prompt people to write more guides and tutorial, which I think would be very useful to most of the people who come to TPU.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Flames?

I wrote a while back a "How to make a basic Sig" tutorial and will not thing of writing another as I only got a few responses... I would write tuts if there was such a section.

I too, asked for suggestion is the P&W section, but had almost zero response.
I think that people would read them if they were there, they just have no real conviction if they want them or not.
I would love to do programming primers or tuts, but not if they are going to get buried in the general section posts after one day.

Ive got a RAID Guide that has yet to be stickied. Made it about 6 months ago.

maybe a guide or tutorial database or something might be better then having having many subforums just for hoding 2-3 threads on average.

I thought about that too. The place that the tutorials really should go is the Wiki, but I don't think it gets read or reviewed very often.

Maybe a link on the TPU front page at the top? (Where you can select forums or downloads, etc.)

Sure would be nice to have them all in one place. I'd be willing to volunteer to maintain the section if someone was needed to do that.

i like this idea - it'll be a learning reference. i have often looked back into the guides section of this site and found it not to be updated or any activity at all.

Yes, it does. But the Wiki is a seperate area from the site in general and is just labeled as "Reference Wiki", which is too generic, and does not generate any interest.

I have to agree, I browsed through the wiki area and it appeared there wasn't a lot of interest because there wasn't much content. Though I have to say the wiki area is an excellent idea had it taken off. There is merit to the idea's on this thread.:toast:

I have a couple of guides that I have written and just not poseted about overclocking the asus maximus extreme, and about general builds and such. I would tottally post them if there was a section for them. :rockout:
