I was just wondering if someone else was bored and eco-conscience like me. If you are lets see if we can make the most eco-friendly computer. We could even make different types like laptops and high-end desktops, etc. I don't know a whole bunch about computers, but I'm going to look into the various energy demands on a computer and try to make a build. Thanks.

LOL, I built a 235 watt SLI gaming comp for Intels Mod contest and it got Ignored.

I am with you if you need help.

I don't mod cases. Can I still be in it? I mean I guess I could start.

building an ECO comp would definitely require a modded case (recycled parts is a good thing)

I want everyone to be able to make these computers. Not everyone can case mod, but it is always an option.

Damn, that's impressive, but judging on your other work, not entirely unexpected.. ;)

This one would be very interesting:

The only Problem with the VIA boards is that there is only one PCI port on them, which means less personalization. But DANG those numbers are impressive.

Is there any way to add slots to a MB, PCI I mean.

Yes, you can! (http://www.magma.com/products/pci/7PCI/index.html)

Why doesn't VIA make dual cores?

Can you OC VIA CPUs?

80%+ rated power supply?

OH, yeah. SeaSonnic makes some that get 88%!

Wait, if VIAs CPUs are 20w with a single core, then Intels dual cores at 32w isn't bad, right?

Well, those are mobile.

well as far as casing goes... you can Mug & Mod a homless guys sleeping bag...thats pretty eco-friendly as most homeless peoples have one of dems. mug him then get your wifey to get the sewing machine out & sew you a new case made out of that shit that sleeping bags get made out of. (tent material??)

(this is NOT a SEXIST comment - if you dont have a wife get your girlfriend if you dont have a girl friend then get a life along with somebody you can bone halfway through the night till she calls you her boyfriend - sorted)

I have a theoretical, virtual project build for everyone:

What is the most energy efficient computer one could use to play Crisis?

I have read that you can use laptop components in desktops.

I am pretty sure we should use a SeaSonic PSU that get 88% efficiency. (The SilverStone ST50EF (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256027) gets comparable results (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/08/21/energy-efficient_computing_options/page7.html), however.)
I have heard that Nvidia 7300GTs can run Crisys (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16814136018&SortField=0&SummaryType=2&Pagesize=10&SelectedRating=5&PurchaseMark=&VideoOnlyMark=False) & it has a very low energy consumption (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/08/21/energy-efficient_computing_options/page5.html) compared to all other video cards on Tom's charts, but the 8500GT gets comparable energy consumption & it is an 8 series card.
According to Tom's charts (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/08/21/energy-efficient_computing_options/page3.html)the E6300 (L2) is the most energy efficient desktop dual core processor, Idling + Computing.

That's what I have researched so far. Please post any energy efficient computing articles.
